  • what kind of strings are you using! i have a d15 just need new strings thanks!

  • @cirillo47

DR rares .12-.54 the only strings I use on this guitar. Get them on Ebay pretty cheap.

  • great sound, great cover.

  • @nfrantnik

    Thanks for commenting.

  • how did you mic it? cant see the mic..

  • @OMERTA011

Two condenser mics. One about 3 feet in front on a table and the other about 6 feet out front on a stand. Panned left and right about 50%.

  • fantastic cover

  • man i have a guild gad 25 and every time i hear this im so tempted to sell it and go for the martin d 15 its so clear bouncy and bassy man your selling this guitar to me big time

  • @warchild1976

Thanks dude. I think you'll find the D15 a little more lively than the GAD too. These guitars almost play themselves.

  • Bought a D-15 when they were first released or "re-released" in 2001 for 300 bucks. Man what a sound...

  • @Breatheintome1993

Yeah a great guitar for the money, no doubt

  • @Breatheintome1993 well whoever sold you it was an idiot, they were 1,000 at least new.

  • Hey Jeff awesome video,

Just wondering what strings do you use on your D-15 since Im trying to find the best ones for mine.

  • @TheIrishguitarguy

Thanks Daniel. I've found that DR Rares work best for this guitar. I'm usually not too picky about strings but the DR's are perfect for the D15.

    I use .12-.56 gauge mostly. Sometimes .12-.54.

  • A little less reverb maybe? :)

  • Jeff,

I have always wondered how you play this song like you do... would you be able to post a how to video?.. or even a description of the chords you use?

    Thanks

  • @GreasyJung1e

Sure thing. I'll make a video over the weekend.

  • best video on youtube!!!

  • Thank you for that info Jeff.

If you ever come to "The Land of Smiles" aka, Thailand, look me up. My Thai wife and I would be honored to show you around, and what the hell, if you play us a few Neil tunes, you can have our spare room while in Bangkok as a trade off!

    Be well, Joe

  • @yumpladukfoo

I will certainly that. Thanks for the offer!

  • @theMonk1

    Hey Jeff,

It has arrived.....and it is nothing short of what I had expected......as warm as buttered toast.

I thank you for for the privilege of owning one, I'll never let it go. Be well, Joe in The Land of Smiles

  • Jeff, An amazing cover of Neil Young! I've been racking my brains out deciding on a few lower priced Martins, but after seeing this video with the sound you got from that mahogany beauty absolutely blew me away! My search is OVER! I purchased a brand new D-15M from a trustworthy music shop in Vermont, but since I am living in Bangkok, Thailand, my friend has to bring it here next month in April, 2011. I can't wait to smell it. Thanks for sharing all your music. Joe

  • That's great Joe! The M's are really beautiful guitars. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

    Thanks for the comments

    Jeff

  • @theMonk1

One more thing Jeff, what strings were on that when you played this? And which strings do you recommend for the D-15? Thanks, Joe

  • @yumpladukfoo

DR Rares work great on these guitars. I use .12-.56 gauge. All my videos are with the DR's except "Time to Burn" which had Martin SP 80/20's

  • Forgot how much I enjoyed this one. It's great man. I've been trying out some Neil songs lately, they're so fun to play but a bitch to sing. I posted one anyway though. Hope something new is coming on that JMac.

  • I wish I could play like that...

  • I bought a D-15 back in June. I have been playing guitar for 11 years and I have to say the D-15 is one of the best guitars you can get for the money. I have played other Martins in the music store (D-18, D-28) but the D-15 has a deep dark sound that's amazing, even with light strings.

  • @scupking

I agree, one of Martin's best kept secrets

  • Great song, great cover and fantastic guitar. Congrats Dude

  • Great song. I've got a Martin HD16 and a Martin DX12. This D15 is next on my list!!! Great job!! Saved your vid to my favs and I'm on my way right now to learn this tune.

  • @oboogie80

Every D15 that I've played has been good, you'll love it.

    Thanks for the comment

  • Love your take on Neil Young stuff. You outta' be selling D-15's! Your videos were the nail in the coffin for me! Mine just shipped and will be here on Saturday! Again, love your music.

  • @byzofsumma57

Congrats on the new Martin, I'm sure you're gonna love playing it. And they smell great too!

    Thanks for the comment

  • Greetings from up 95 in Portland. Also play a D15 and wouldn't much trade it for much of anything else. . . great playing - is your guitar mic'd in this video???

  • Hello fellow Mainer.

I use two room mics going to the PC, then some mastering software after the fact. The guitar is unplugged and I'm singing through a small PA.

Gotta love these D15's, a lot of guitar for the money

    Thanks for the comment

  • Do you think the d15 would make a good bluegrass guitar? (I pretty much just play bill monroe songs)

    thanks

  • @mattthom1

I'd have to say no. In my opinion you really need a spruce top for bluegrass music.

Check into a Martin Custom D or a Martin DSR, both are about the same cost as the D-15. I really like the DSR's.

  • You like if Neil had singing classes. Very good bro. Congrat!! Do you have some originals too?

  • @ildedoni

Thank you. Yes I have some new originals coming soon.

  • Wow great -the guitar sound is cool and Vocals too -greetings from germany winni

  • @diamondgza75

    You will love it!

  • That's a great authentic cover, Monk! That Martin sounds superb!

  • @Fstpicker

Thanks Jeff. These are great little guitars for singer songwriters.

  • can't believe some one didn't like this. oh, well...super job my friend. I play an HD16R and it don't sound any better than your d-15. Good song selection too. see ya!

  • Mi Monk! Nice sound on your D-15! Mine D-15 is also great!

What kind on reverb are you using? It sounds a bit like mine Wet Reverb? Or is it Holy Grale?

  • @sambiga

thanks man. I added some reverb afterwords on the recording software, Sonar. Nothing fancy.

  • @theMonk1 Thats nice! Thanks!

  • omg awsome dude! will get the same guitar this week :)

  • dude... fantastic work.

  • Good Guitar, good Guitarplayer, good Singer. ... and what a nice song....

  • Seriously enjoyable version! Loved it.

  • Yesterday the D-15 finaly arrived from the States in my local guitar shop!

Tried it today and ... bought it!!! Plays and sounds amazing!

Thanks for the good advice and the great video's!!! They inspired me!

  • @StoneGerrard

Cool man, you bought a nice guitar. Mine still inspires me everyday. Congrats!

  • Nice sound

  • I went out and bought a D-15 today.

  • @scupking

Great guitars. Mine inspires me be better. Hope you love it!

  • Wow! Great version, playing, vocals, arrangement!! I was looking at getting one of these D 15 and I stumbled upon you and I am glad I did...I think what is great is that you technically excellent player, but your version still has the soul of Neil's original and even heard a little Stephen Stills on some of you leads on the end...a very pleasant surprise! What kind of mic and effects do you have on your vocals?

  • Fantastic sound! I am enjoying a D15 because of this video and your otherpostings. Larry Cragg set mine up with tusk pins and bone bridge: very sweet to play. When is your tour on the west coast? Also, would you be willing to give any insights to your playing of this song? (strum, chords, special tuning on this song)- Thanks !!

  • @TomMartinD15

Man that's cool to have Larry Cragg work on your guitar. He's The Man.

The the low E string is tuned down to D. I"m doing some palm muting with the right hand for a little effect. Other than that it's pretty much just rock n roll.

Thanks for your comment, enjoy that Martin.

  • Thanks for the tips... very helpful! I had a sense you would know who Larry Cragg is. It was really fun to meet him and hear his Neil stories. He is the salt of the earth. I am still grinnin' that he worked on my guitars. Your music is very authentic. Thanks again!

  • I've been using the RPBG-12-56 Rares on this guitar. Kind of a blend between lights and mediums. I use them on other guitars and they're just ok, but they seem to match this guitar perfectly.

    Thanks for the comment

  • hi, wich DR Rare strings set are using you? i mean, i was looking one of those for my D15 after read your comments, but there are RPB5, RPMH13, EXR13, So please help me to find the better for my guitar, by the way, awesome cover, excellent performance

  • Nice job !

  • This is my favorite Neil Young song for some reason. I am thinking about getting a D 15, or possibly the Martin SWDGT. Nice to see you playing a great song with a guitar I am very interested in.

  • Great job! Only problem is this vid cost me $900! Had to replace my $200 Washburn with a new D-15, and your vid was the one that sold me! I love it!

  • Cool, you won't regret it for a minute. My D15 has been an absolute pleasure from the moment I opened the case. It's made me a better player. Enjoy it!

  • Nice job!:D

  • excellent!!!!

  • SWEET! You gotta love Neil! BRAVO - love your performance; you sound GREAT

    cheers

  • I've had my d-15 for a month now and like it a lot , Hey Monk did you say you changed the pegs a while back ? if so what did u change them to? and what strings do u have on it,? it sounds incredible

  • I put DR Rare strings on this guitar and it just came to life. I also put Tusq pins on it but I'm not sure how much they affected the sound. They're only about ten bucks so they might be worth trying out.

    Thanks

  • nice job

  • Awesome performance!

Your D-15 has a really fantastic sound too! What kind of strings do you use?

  • DR Rare Bluegrass strings brought this guitar to life. It was quite a big difference from the Martin strings.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @theMonk1 Which gauge do you use on your D-15?

I'm planning to buy a new acoustic.

Watching your videos makes the D-15 a very big option (doubting between a Martin and a Taylor and perhaps a Larrivee).

  • The bluegrass size strings have medium on the bottom a lights on the high E, B strings. That's what I'm used to.

Those are all good guitars. MF has the 45 day return policy, you could buy a D15, try it out for a month, send it back if you don't like it. I'd bet you keep it though.

  • Love the D-15. It will be my next guitar. I have an all mahogany Washburn and also a Seagull S6. I have had other acoustics but I love the sound of Mahogany.

  • great version of this Jeff

  • Thanks Mark

  • Yeah Martin D15 rocks nice job!

  • You do that cover the best of anyone I've heard!

  • Thanks Jeff, I appreciate it.

  • How the pickup you use in your Martin d-15? is a Fishman MATRIX natural pickup? great sound...thanks!

  • Thanks. There is no pickup in the guitar. Just two room mics going to the computer.

    Jeff

  • Best D-15 video out there! You recorded it better than anything else I've heard...it really is a great singer/songwriter guitar. Great playing/singing!

  • Super . J'adore

    CONGRATULATION... BRAVO

  • great sound of that d-15,,nice job!

  • Great version, like youre style of playing and your voice, I\m waiting for my Martin D15 too, how do you find yours? -cheers!!

  • Thanks a lot. Perfect singer/songwriter guitars in my opinion. They cover all the bases from beautiful finger picking to soft and heavy strumming. Very dynamic guitars. And the quality is all Martin. Let me know how you like yours.

    cheers back at ya!

  • Fine Job

  • Very well!! 5*

  • Beautiful rendition of a great song. You have great rhythm when you play.

  • Brilliant. That guitar sounds sweet!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • Hell yeah!!! :)
