Great news! You can support British farmers AND farmers in developing countries. Almost all products that carry the FAIRTRADE Mark (for example, bananas, tea, coffee, chocolate, rice, cotton) are not grown in the UK. As for the few Fairtrade products that can also be produced in the UK, such as honey and flowers, British farmers are not able to produce sufficient quantities to satisfy market demand.
buy british bananas, british coffee, mango's, tea, brazil nuts, figs, dates, olive oil, avocado pears, chocolate, oranges, pineapples, oh wait, these are tropical climate produce.
tea is so british, but it's grown in india, ceylon, and africa. coffee is a close second, it comes from latin america, africa, asia.
support local produce by all means, and fair prices for british farmers. but support fairtrade when it has to come from abroad.
@bnprenaissance I know BNP supporters despise 3rd world foreigners inhabiting Britain. So by you consuming Fair trade products, produced by workers in developing countries you are not only contributing to their economies but you are helping them improve their standard of living in their countries. So tell other like minded individuals to buy fair trade so non-white immigrants can stop coming to the UK and your racist wish might come true. A white only Europe.
Nice. :)
