  • I like you video. We have a raccoon but he is indoors only he doesn't want anything to do with outside. He has his own room with lots of toys I don't think he knows that he is a raccoon. He loves to kiss and hug. You should see his videos I think you can find them at rickybobby and his dads playtime

  • @maryroyall - Hi! Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it! I checked out your channel, Rickybobby is an awesome coon! That's very cool that you have him, I've always wanted a raccoon - :)

  • I have been feeding 7 of them. One since a baby, he takes food from my hand. When I pour more water in his bowl, he touches and smells my hand. After he eats, goes under the table, lays on his back as if to say "I'm full, I need a nap". Sometimes he sits like a panda bear in front of his bowl and plays with the water, while looking up at me. His name is Joey. I love him and all his family! Thanks for posting this video, I love it!!!!!:))

  • @MsMetford - That is so amazingly cool, I would love to interact with the coons like that!! You're welcome, I'm glad you like the video - apologies for the annoying comment approval, I've had quite a few "I wanna kill 'em" comments in the past, so I had to turn that on. Raccoons fascinate me, Joey sounds like an awesome coon, and his family sounds great too - I've never had the chance to interact with them like that, but I try to get close to them with my enrichment projects and cameras!

  • @taburineagle Joey is the only one with the "cute" personality, the others will take from my hand and my husband's, but they want food not chit chat. I have a video cam, just need a brighter floodlight. I also got a negative reply to a comment I made, I understand. Look forward to your videos, will work on posting one of Joey...:))LOL

  • @MsMetford - I'd love to see that! Yeah, YouTube is great, but there are a lot of dumb people who leave comments just to troll... I don't even get to see my coons coming and going like your other ones, the thing with mine is I don't have raccoons in my yard, I need to tape them at a friend's yard, so I rarely see them (unless I spend the night, and I don't think they'd want me around if they're not used to me :)) - most of my raccoon videos are motion-sensor vids, except for a choice few.

  • where can you most find raccoon because i really wanted to see a raccoon but i dont think they would be found in Chicago D:

  • @AmuTheReal - That's a good question! I had to look for 12 years before I found a place local to here where they lived, I'm not sure where they'd be in Chicago - possibly a wildlife refuge somewhere near there?

  • its amazing...here they seem so cute....but since i was six ive had the worst phobia of raccoons....like even if one is in a cage i freak out

  • @teddyv7 - They can be amazingly cute, but can be vicious when provoked (like backed into a corner) - if they're in a cage, they're more likely to be scared themselves, that's why they seem so much more scary then - they are awesome animals though - :)

  • Their sounds win me over every time. ADORABLE!

  • @SeeSawAway - I love their vocalizations too, they're such awesome creatures - I have a lot of raccoon sounds in my "Adventures of the Little Kit" 1 video, especially of the kit calling to it's mom!

  • o. okay good b cause mine luvs marshmallows. i was worried for a minute. thanx.

  • @81christa - No problem - that's awesome that you have a raccoon!

  • why cant raccoons have marshmallows?

  • @81christa - They can, it's just junk food for them (as it would be for us)... I mainly wrote that because I wanted to say I wasn't feeding them marshmallows *exclusively*, just as a treat - raccoons love them, but kids love candy too - same deal - :)

  • lol I love raccons alot but im a bit afraid of having one as a pet

  • @11marioboots - It definitely takes a lot of dedication to have one as a pet, it's much better seeing them in the wild - that way, you can see the kits grow up - :)

  • Racoons are cute little fellas but im not sure i would like to hug one. Im not saying they are dirty animals, its just they might have a bit of a temper on them about the hugging business :P I think i light snack would go down better :D

  • @mrhiide

my coon luvs to hug.hes my baby. he licks me too. he has his moments but hes not mean. no worse than a puppy.

  • @81christa - A lot of people interpret raccoons being playful as being mean, they're just *very* hyper, and *very* curious - :)

  • Raccoons are not cute!!!!

  • @Seddieluv1 -.-

  • i know raccoons are supposed to be scary cuz of there high rabbis risk but i just can never be afraid of something so cute

  • 3:09 yay he caught it :)

  • Who could ever dislike something this darn cuuuuute???!??!!!!??!?

  • raccoons!! NATURES NINJA!!!!!! >:C

  • 4:00 OMM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM. :D

  • Wild relatives of my home raccoon)))

  • @Drastyk1 - Maybe, but there are proper ways to seal up attics and roofs, if people do it properly in the first place, then they're not going to need to call you... sadly though a lot of people don't take that precaution. What do you do with them after you "get them out"....?

  • I'd love to come up behind one and surprise it with a big hug! :3

  • @Sirruraccoon - Hehe... not sure how well a raccoon would take that - it can look temping though - :)

  • Oh that's too bad! I live in rural Oklahoma and see raccoons near my house all the time.I'd love to have another 1 as a pet, but the hubby's afraid of 'em! Lol

  • @okiefawcett - Hehe - :) I've always loved raccoons - I'd love to live in an area like that too, where wildlife abounds! It actually took me 12 *years* to find a place around here where they congregate! I eventually found a friend at work that lived in the woods as a kid, and his father still lives there, so I set cameras up on his property often - at least once a week - to catch the raccoons (and anything else that may come) on camera! One of the reasons I use the bag feeder - :)

  • Cheerios are very good for them and I'm sure they gobble them up. I love hearing them chitter! I may have to put out some dog food on the patio tonight just to see what comes around! :)

  • @okiefawcett - YES! I love that sound too, it's one of my favorites! If you've got time to see other videos, I have other recordings of them chittering to each other on my channel - "Little Kit 1", "Raccoony Dating" and "Chittery Inquisitive Coons" to name a few. Hopefully you catch something! Long story short, I don't actually have raccoons where I live, I travel to tape my videos - :)

  • I loved it! What a cool idea, to use a zip lock bag and piece of foam to hide treats for them to find! I've had 1 pet raccoons and I never tire of watching them figure things out. Raccoons are omnivorous, meaning they'll eat whatever they can find. But fruits, grains, meat and vegetables are what's best for them. Try leaving out dog food next time - mine LOVED it, AND it's good for them! :)

  • @okiefawcett - Thank you for saying so! The raccoons love the bag feeder - :) That's awesome that you've had a pet raccoon, I would love to some day... I've been researching them for the greater part of 16 years. I was somewhat new to feeding the coons when I shot this (I don't feed them marshmallows as much), usually I give them Honey Nut Cheerios (I've heard from a few rehabbers that Cheerios are very good finger foods) - I haven't tried dog food, but I know NOT to feed them cat food - :)

  • great video! I like that you made your own comments/subtitles, the ones youtube offers are so bright and ugly.

  • @lphiljipl - Thank you for saying so! I kind of thought the subtitles I made for this one were a little larger than they needed to be, but they don't look that bad now that I look back at it - :)

  • The first person that dislikes this go to hell!!!

  • Well if the American diet of processed food and calorie saturation is carcinogenic to humans, I'm sure it is to raccoons as well.

  • @whenyouseetheknife - I'm not really sure if I'd qualify it as the "American diet", but you're probably right - if you give them that kind of food all the time, it's not going to be good for them. Every once and a while is fine, just not all the time.

  • This is great! Very good commenting and advice throughout - makes you not miss anything, so to say! Great job!

  • @Mim8209 - Thank you for saying so, I'm glad you liked it! :)

  • @wasatchhike - I'm not sure if it's a cavity thing or not, but that's possible... All I know about that is it's not recommended to feed them marshmallows all the time - once and a while is fine, but not all the time (also like people, really!)

  • i have a family of raccoons mom and babys that comes up to my door and i feed them if am siting out their thy will just come up and eat and sometimes just look over at me and if i stand up thy will look or move away and if i walk to them thy will just run away without making a noise ones where i live are kool and more scared of me then i am. once me and 3 other people was standing by my house and one walked around and went up the tree eye level and picked around at us then got down and left

  • @CrazyFavVideos - That's awesome, I would love to do that!

  • maybee put some cheese or nuts or some stuff in the cushion.

  • @lizplace70790 - They might like nuts, but I don't know about cheese... Crows seem to like cheese when I tried the feeder project out with them, but raccoons are more into marshmallows as a treat. A lot of people feed them dog food also, which is better nutritionally for them than cat food is.

  • my sister wants to know what the blue stuff is but wont let me answer her

  • @AngelslikeDevils - Hehehe... she won't let you answer? :) The blue stuff is foam - the whole thing is a kind of like a cushion they need to destroy to get the food out of the inside of it.

  • why shouldnt raccoons eat marshmallows?

  • There are just far more nutritional things for them to eat other than marshmallows (although mine still get them from time to time too - :) That message is mainly on there as a disclaimer, like it's OK to give them some, just don't go hog wild with it...

  • I love your videos! Especially the 'Possum ones. :)

  • Thanks! I'm glad you like them! :) Opossums are definitely interesting creatures!

  • I have a pair of raccoon siblings who are blackmailing me into putting food out for them at night. Unless I put out sufficient food for them, they will come into my house via the cat flaps and eat the cats' food. They do like sweets and will eat them first much like children.

  • Hehe... yep, I can attest to that - raccoons definitely have a sweet tooth! If there is food, they will find it - no doubt on that one. If you want to wean them off of food provided from you, try placing different amounts of food further and further away from your house - each night, reduce the amount of food until they rely less on your handouts, they may not want as much after trying that for a few weeks.

  • i hate f***en raccoons because of what it did to my baby ducks!:(

  • True, raccoons will kill ducks, but so will a lot of animals. Foxes, coyotes, even stray animals like cats and dogs. It may have been another animal, but even if it isn't, raccoons are what they are. They are natural predators, and they will kill things if they have the need to. They're not a bad animal for it though, they're doing what they need to do in order to survive.

Sorry to hear about the ducks - :(

  • Ugh... I hate the way YouTube commenting works - just deleted a comment instead of Replying to it... sorry!

  • That WAS a lot of marshmallows. Just never give them chocolate, cuz once when i was camping I accedently left chocolate on the picnic table and it was so much fun cleaning vomit off the stove before breakfast in the morning. Lol

  • It was a lot of marshmallows - hehe - I don't use that many any more, just sparingly - :) To make a long story short, it took me more than a decade to find an area where I could record raccoons, and a friend let me tape in their yard, so I wanted as good of a chance as I could to catch a raccoon on camera, that's why I had so many marshmallows.

Definitely not chocolate! Chocolate (specifically theobromine) is poisonous to a lot of animals. I can just imagine how gross that must have been! :)

  • i'm accually happy they threw it up because i would have been worse finding dead racoons on the table. =(

  • True, that would definitely be worse - :(

  • they are so cute :)

  • Thanks! I think so too! :)

  • omg I love this video!! They are so cute!! I have like 4 raccoons I feed. :)

  • That's awesome! I wish I had them where I lived, I had to travel to get these shots - :)

  • Really! you had to travel? you should take one with you next time! LOL JK

  • Hehe... if only it were possible... :) Seriously, I would love to open the blinds in my bedroom and see a mom coon and her kits looking back at me - I would absolutely *love* that! Not to be where I am currently though, way too much traffic here - :(

  • I've never woken up to a raccoon before, but that would be awesome. I do have lots of kits running around my backyard though. lol That sucks that you have too much traffic around you. They are just so much fun to watch and I love seeing the kits grow up. :)

  • I am having such a bizarre summer with kits this year! I saw 2 very pregnant females at my taping spot, which turned out to be 2 *very* nurse-ready looking females in June, and one of them brought 3 little kits out to visit - once. Then she disappeared. A few weeks later, one kit came out, but for only a brief time - and then a few weeks later, another Mom and 2 kits - but again, for a brief time. I'm starting to wonder if the Male coons are dominating the territory this year... :(

  • :( I hope not because I love seeing the mothers, and the kits are just so precious and fun to watch. Where I live we have tons of females, we at least have 5 families in our backyard (we live in a wooded area) Hopefully next year you will have better luck spooting a kit at your shooting spot :)

  • That's another thing that's been driving me nuts, because I haven't seen many kits at all, but most of the people I watch on YouTube that have raccoons have *soo* many families this year! Moms with 6 kits, and another one with 3, maybe a straggler with 2 small ones - I look at that and go... "well, what happened to my coons? I had a whole bunch of prospective Moms, where did they *go*?" It's not a hunting area, I'm just worried something is going on somewhere that might be affecting them... :(

  • BTW, have you seen my "Cute Raccoon Family" video on YouTube? It's of last year's kits, but they're so awesome to watch!

  • I am planning to watch all your Videos. They are just adorable. I love the Raccoons so much. I have about two mothers, and the one has three babies. The other one has four. Then there is another one that also comes to visit. Also have a few Opossums. I love and adore all animals. Thanks for giving me information regarding dog food. All my raccoons are very heavy, and the babies are in excellent condition.

    thanks for sharing these Videos.

  • You're welcome, I'm glad you like them! Wow! That's a lot of kits! I haven't seen any kits lately, this year has been so bizarre! I was expecting to see at least 2 different raccoon families with kits this year, but it fizzled out for some reason.

  • I wonder what happened to all your kits. :( I mean like you said around here we have tons of kits! Is there any construction sites around where you shoot?? I really hope nothing is bothering your raccoons. I need to check out "Cute Raccoon Family" video :) I also love your squirrel vid!! :)

  • Not really "construction sites", but there are people in the area renovating their houses. I really hope they're not being bothered with too, one of the reasons I love shooting video there is because the raccoons don't really have a lot of man-made disasters waiting for them. It's in a suburban-type area, but the entire area is wooded. I really hope no one is trapping them!

Thanks for the squirrel vid comment - :) Which one did you see?

  • I'm happy there are no construction sites. :) i don't know if renovating would scare them off. That sounds like a good area to shoot. :)

I've seen the newest squirrel video and I also saw one where two squirrels run after each other. (I don't remember the name though)

  • It's a very good place to shoot! I just wish I knew what happened to all the kits though, I'm guessing the male raccoons just took over the territory this year and pushed the family raccoons out (I have seen a lot of males), but it could be any number of things that made the kits leave.

For the squirrel video, it could have been "The Joys of Youth" or "Squirrels Speak Out!" - or maybe something else? :)

  • Thats why I love so much Raccoons!

  • Me too!

  • Racoons like that are cool

  • Thanks - they are!

  • Give me a break! Marshmallows aren't good for anybody. But that doesn't stop us. If raccoons could laugh and giggle, those marshmallows would have had them rotf. :D I think it was a rare treat that few wild animals ever experience. We owe them something for all the roadkill we create.

  • I agree with you - :) Are you telling *me* to "give you a break"...? I put the marshmallow thing on there for people that think that giving them only marshmallows is a good diet for them... but I definitely treat the coons to marshmallows now and then... :)

  • No, not at you. lol I think you awesome. :D

  • Ah, cool - thanks! :)

  • So intelligent and beautiful. It must be fun to play these cute little tricks and games with them.

Prosper and be kind to all living beings!

  • Yes! It's great to be able to see them working at something - that's one of the reasons I created my Bag Feeder Project - it's something that they can tear apart, or figure out other ways of getting inside of it! Thanks for the nice comment, they are amazing creatures!

  • They can't eat marshmallows?

    Why not?

  • They can, it's just not the healthiest thing for them... kind of the way they are for people - :)

  • This is a cute Video, I love that part where they stand up to get those Marshmallows.

  • soooooo goldig *.*

  • We dont have Raccoon's in England, but i'd rather have one of these visit my garden than the noisy, fighting cats on my street.

  • I've had a few of those too - :) Raccoons can get pretty vicious when they fight with each other, but that's usually for in a territorial or seasonal reason (like a mother raccoon trying to protect her nest from possible trespassers.)

  • lol what do they eat anyway......you should put like a piece of fruit at the bottom of a bucket and see what they do

  • I've put cheerios at the bottom of water troughs for them and they love pawing around for them! I should try that sometime! :) Their natural diet is mostly fish and crustaceans (like crayfish) - they use their paws to feel around the water and detect prey.

  • Why shouldn't you give them marshmellows?

  • Well, that's a matter of opinion - it's not like you shouldn't, but it's not the healthiest thing to give them. Some people are split on the issue, saying it's either fine for them and a nice treat, and some saying that it's just raw sugar and harmful to them. I mainly put that there so people wouldn't think I'm giving them marshmallows constantly - :)

I don't think it's bad to give them some every once and a while though, it's a little treat - :)

  • stupid bitch

  • No, no... it's cheeky bitch. *blocked*

  • lol @ 1:30 - 1:45 "Ohh whats under here! oops...i should have thought that through better" XD

Raccoons are adorable, silly creatures. Such a shame they have such a bad stigma, regarded by many as vermin. :(

I miss my old place. we had a big family of Raccoons there. Only like one here, and rarely seen

Why can't they eat marshmallows, by the way?

  • I wish more people would appreciate them instead of just labeling them as vermin also - they're just such interesting animals! That's awesome that you had so many, I don't even have *one* where I live (which is why it's nice to have a friend that lets you tape at their house :))

As far as the marshmallows thing, that's more a matter of personal preference, I just put that there so people wouldn't think that's all they eat - ;)

  • raccoons are so damn cute. i get them every summer on my deck. i can never catch them during the winder on my deck. but just tonight i heard two raccoons fighting in the woods right beside my house.. rather freaky lol

  • Being this time of year, I'd say they might have been mating - :) They are definitely cute!

  • Fantastic video..great capture and explanation/notation..thanks for helping to show what fabulous creatures they really are..keep up the great work....

  • Thanks for saying so! I will - I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, I've found there are a lot of people that think raccoons are bad, but they're wonderful creatures! I hope to show that in my videos - :)

  • Oh, I remember their chittering. While camping last year in my tent, 3 made regular visits to my site, and they seemed to love the smell of it, couldn't sleep, not one bit.

  • Awesome! (note to self, *why* did I just notice this comment now? :)) I would love to get nightly visits like that - they're wonderfully inquisitive creatures!

  • It would have been better if I wasn't in the tent alone, and it wasn't night... and I wasn't freaked because it was night and I was alone. Not a fan of night and movement. haha

  • Hehe... what about raccoons? Are you a fan of raccoons? :)

  • I live in a town wit no raccoons

  • I don't have them where I live either... it took me 14 *years* to find somewhere in my area that does!

  • Love the sounds too. I must get lots of raccoons visiting at night, as I hear these sounds out back a lot. Great video!!

  • Thanks! Aww! You're so lucky, I'd *love* to hear those sounds every night! I get to hear the trucks and motorcycles that speed by the highway instead though... :( That noise is more often than not little coons chittering to their parents, so you might have families of raccoons and not even know it! Wouldn't that be great!! :)

  • Zach,

VERY cool collection! You have a number of my favorite (domestic) animals; coons, crows, ravens, grackles.

Shows what a ingenuity and a little bit of (modern) technology can provide.

We are just in the process of attracting crows to our backyard. Have tons of stellar jays, redwinged blackbirds, squirrels, but missing the crows. They are slowly coming though, after a year of efforts.

  • Thanks for the comment! I'm glad that you liked them! I've been trying to get crows to come to the yard for the longest time too, a pair finally showed up last year - I've found that they like cheese of all things! Not sure why, but I tried using some of that in some of my feeder projects, and they came to check them out!

  • they might like the cheese because of it's visibility

  • Possibly - the cheese does kind of stand out compared to other things... they just seem to like the texture of it for some reason!

  • aww well i have a pet raccoon and she luvsss her some rice crispy treats.. oops they have marshmellows..

  • There's marshmallow in rice krispy treats... :) That's cool! I've always wanted a pet coon - they're not the easiest things to take care of though...

  • Are these wild raccoons? They're quite the vandalists! Lol. Cute vid tho! I laughed when the one tipped over the water dish. :) :)

  • Yes they are! Thanks for saying so! If you look at most of my videos, you'll see that I love "vandalists" :) Especially raccoons - it's so cool to watch them use their "hands" to get food out of the feeder! That water dish shot was one of my more favorite shots from last year - the best one was a shot of a younger raccoon chasing a bug!

  • And I hope to get more crow pics during the winter brake...there are lots of them over here, I guess the population almost doubled by the visit of the Rooks. They use some of the trees here as sleep trees, so it´s not that hard to get them in front of the lense. But well school calls, and other stuff and other stuff, you know..

  • Ah, yes... way too familiar with other stuff happening! :) That would be cool if you could get a shot or 2 - I haven't seen many crows around here lately!

  • Heh interesting to know that Racoons like the same sweet stuff ,as we humans do! Again very nice footage, and overall work. I like the cricket chirping in the background which gives the whole thing the right ambiente, of like it´s a dark night where many racoons enjoy their junkfood and water games most. It would be good to see more of your stuff. It´s always very interesting.

  • Thanks! I have more to come, I just need to get 10 minutes to myself to edit some things... :) The cricket chirping is a very nice little touch - it draws you in more for some reason, just gives the right feeling to the overall scene...

  • Awesome! At :46 I see where you got your channel icon from!

  • Yep! THAT is the raccoon video I was talking about! :)

  • Raccoons remind me a lot like humans. Hey taburineagle did you know there are cordless birdbath heaters? You maybe be like 10 or 15 *F warmer than me but I still bet it gets cold and sometimes snow and ice. I got me one that used D batteries. Just thought you'd like to know, just like that water wiggler I told you about. later amigo +5

  • That would definitely come in handy lately! It's been extremely cold here! It's also been snowing quite a bit, but I'm sure it's been more extreme near your area!! This winter looks like it's going to be particularly brutal - hopefully it's not all like this!

Raccoons remind me a lot of people too - they seem to communicate with each other more than most people think!

  • Hey Nice to see another vid. It's been so long!

VBG! I kept imagining what they would do if a package of goodies was left on your doorstep. LOL

I love it when they wash their paws.

  • Me too! I've noticed that some of them drink with their paws, and some lap it up like a dog... I just find that interesting! Thanks for the nice comment! I'll be back with more soon!

  • Coons is great! Nice job.

  • Thanks! Thanks for the fav too - :)

  • 5*! Are they still coming around every night or so?

  • Thanks! Yeah, but not as much... I might see one or two for about 5 minutes during the night. Back in September, I could almost count on all 4 of the kits coming and staying for at least 30 minutes! It's getting colder, so they're conserving heat more often now...

I've got a new (well, a couple of new) animals on cam that I need to upload here too! Keep checking back! BTW, is Scout still coming around?

  • marshmallows??? LOL, you could see their disappointment when they realized there is no more candy...

Dead funny, and another excellent video, thanks.

  • Sure! Thank you! I had more here to say, but YouTube wouldn't let me post it for some reason...

  • I love these videos. I hope you keep them coming. They are wonderful. Excellent work!

  • Thank you very much for saying so! I do have more to add soon, so keep checking back!

  • hahahahahaha, Your pure genius dude, thanx for sharin' this awesome vid! As usual dude, ya get 5 stars!!!

  • Thanks! And thanks for the comment - I'm glad you liked it!

  • Great video, as usual. Thank you for all the work you put into this!

  • You're welcome! Thanks for the comment! I've got more coming soon! :)

  • Fabulous stuff! :-D

I love their inquisitive little faces..!

  • Thanks! Me too! I loooove raccoons!

  • Cute! Raccoons are awesome!

  • Thanks! That's the video that took me forever to do... :)
