have people ever even listenes to Joy Division, the two bands are hardly alike.

And as for interpol being the poor man's joy divisin that's rubbish, joy division uses raw simple guitar where interpol is more complex and atmospheric.

I think the reason it sounds like this is because of the way it is recorded.

I can't explain it very well but they will have recorded the sound coming from the instruments and vocals directly into the sound desk. Rather than a microphone picking up the sound from elsewhere.I haven't made myself very clear I know but that's the way my band used to do it when recording live, I can't explain it any better. Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge of sound etc can shed some light.

I think it's just how it was recorded, the audience can't be heard. You can hear some very very light cheering in some of the videos which suggests that they're actually not being picked up.
