Very nicely done. Quite a compact package when all said & done. It 's nice to see vintage iron in a lively state of tune. GM was in its heyday with all of its divisions designing & building their own powerplants. One can argue forever on who did it best but one thing for certain is, no one did it bad, especially Pontiac.
i agree pontiac olds cadillac buick ,can have and do!! out run chevies,i have seen 326's350 pontiacs stock" out run 350's,i'm just a gm guy, would rather not see "a chevy in any pontiac",but as long as were staying with american iron, and the guy isnt bad mouthin the old indians,im ok? with it...
new flat tappet cams are supposed to be broke in at 2,000 rpm for 15-20 minutes to mate the lifters to the lobes and work harden the wear surfaces. I'm guessing roller cams are different??
thanks - but it is not "backyard" it is a modified Sun test stand for AC, and emmisions components from the 80's. It came with a Buick V8 installed, but now only has Pontiac V8's being tested/broken in on.
What does it matter? You can't hear the difference from a .030 over 428 from a stock 428. Boring an engine is to make the cylinder walls straight to achieve good ring seal for performance. You can actually bore one too far, too.
But you can't HEAR that small of a change on a 400+ cubic inch engine.
What you are saying is true...a few more tenths of a point in compression can be gained if the cylinder head and piston dome volumn are the same. But again, you can't hear THAT small of an increment. Please reread jasonb32's post and understand WHY I replied what I did to him.

pontiac40069 1 year ago
are all 428 super dutys
lordofblacksmoke 1 year ago
none are - we named this a 428 SD because its a 428 block 4 bolt block with a 421 SD forged crank - old school and new school
spotperf 1 year ago
what stroke and bore are you using for that engine
lordofblacksmoke 1 year ago
that sounds is amazing; its biblical! Pontiac POWER!

Where did you get the manifold for the blower? I'd love to put a blower on one of mine
starchief59 2 years ago
Pete got everything from BDS - best set up for a street Pontiac - has cooling. I needed to have it milled though for fitment

Nice motor. It looks like the left header is bent?
coutts1993 2 years ago
yes - junk headers for my start up stand - only used to break in engines.

torchmann4801 3 years ago
no break in needed on roller cams, also different shaped lobes, so more power. This engine has a custom grind hydraulic roller cam.

I have the 428 on my 1969 FIrebird, just finished the rebuild turned out 480 HP at 5000 RPM's huge low end torque, ran beautifully.
Nightshots 3 years ago
thats badass i see you have edelbock heads on it they are great ive ran mine for 3 years no problems
mitchelltom32 3 years ago
nice engine man its good to see that you have a blown pontiac engine going into a car not another blown chevy going into a pontiac lol.

what does that engine make for power?

mmmmmmmm. Daddy likey
MotorCityThreads 3 years ago
blowers / superchargers (ram air) into the engines, crating higher compression-compression = power
just dont blow out the bottom end- or block getting there--
nice motor man- im building my 468 slowly- need cash

is it a actual 428 is bord out ect...

yea you can- the more you open a cyl- the more air volume it has drawn in it = more compression
check out top fuel ,take a look at the compression there using / dirt bikes-ect...
anything that uses compression to run
you can tell a healthy engine -from a low compression,(or worne) motor
you can tell when someone uses race fuel as well

yes you can- each cyl is bored out thats more volume in each- trust me you can tell
jasonb32 4 years ago
I want you to go to race track and identify everyone's bore by ear. Kidiot. I hear your mom calling....
Dummerd 4 years ago
yes 428 block - bored .035 (434 cid) custom dished pistons. Crank is a vintage 421 Super Duty forged unit. Block is filled, billet steel 4 bolt main caps. Hydraulic roller cam.
spotperf 4 years ago
love the way it surges at idle. what the hell are you gonna do with that?... boat maybe?
