  • What a nostalgic trip!

Rainy afternoons as a kid just kicked me in the face

  • I absolutely love this game!!

  • Great game for its time.

  • Ah, the childhood memories.

  • Malcolm and Kyrandia were mentioned in "Eric the Unready".

  • one of best games ever :D

  • Comment removed

  • kann sich noch wer auf den amiga joker erinnern?habe das heft immer verschlungen^^

  • great game!

  • @ANGARAMAN totally agree. The trial and error demands are so ridiculous. This game is like trying to do a crossword puzzle in the dark

  • OH YEAH AND NOW YOU'VE WALKED THROUGH THE CAVE FIVE TIMES: go back all the way across the island to pick up three specific gemstones out of the five thousand that are randomly lying around, which weren't there before, and with no hint as to which ones you need. Then walk through the cave again. This is sadistic.

  • @Angaraman Kinda agree with 'ya. It took us at least half an hour as kids to find out how to convince the bridge dude to fix the bridge. We ended up causing Brandon to come across the bridge via that thin rope, as we saw no obvious way to cross it. Laughed as hell when he fell. But as kids, we didn't give a shit and just played along and have the most fun we could have from this game -- me with the roaming/adventure stuff, and my sis with the whole puzzle-solving.

  • @Angaraman Well, yes, because the modern standard nowadays is that people expect games to hold their hands all the time. "Press A to finish game." For some reason I've never had any problems with the caves, because with a lot of adventure games like these you're supposed to take notes; in this case, make a map. Besides, Goblins 3 puzzles make a lot less sense than these ones.

  • @Fithragaer

I know what you mean. Automaps, linear design, etc. All the hallmarks of modern games. Most people don't want the challenge of thinking or mapping their way through games anymore. They usually want everything upfront. Minimal chance of failure and instant gratification included. Plenty of modern games I give "awful reviews" to because of those things...

  • ugh. by modern standards this game is full of terrible games design. that whole cave sequence is just "make it from light cave to light cave with no idea where each one is. walk all the way across it three times to continue the game. BTW we're not going to drop even the vaguest hint of what you're supposed to do." if this game were made today, it'd get awful reviews.

still a classic though. funny how that works.

  • Malcolm dislikes this.

  • beatufully reminiscences on playing this with my sister as a kid :)

    awesome game!

    respect the odlschool treasures.

  • good review THANKS

  • Never heard of this game until I read the Simon the Sorceror wiki page and it mentioned this. Love all the classic point and clicks (Monkey Island, Discworld...). Got to give this a try!

  • i love the game!

    schade das man das nicht auf Windows vista oder so zocken kann ;_;

  • I love this music!

  • Не знаю почему, но мне эта игра напоминает Tomba 2 на ps1

  • ow! ow!! that snake bit me!

  • Mine didn't have voice overs, all the narrative etc was all in text form. Was I missing something?

  • Brandon sounds like Norm McDonald!

  • "All sweat and muscle, and so hard to peel!" "And I've got a flute, now!"

I love the dialogue (monologues?) in this game...

  • "All sweat and muscle... and so hard to PEEL!"

  • Brandon's voice being funny as hell sounding like "Adric" from Dr. Who trying to be a King. This is odviously a parody of King's Quest 1. Music reminescent of "Drakkhen" awsome!

  • GERMAN TEXT BUT ENGLISH TALK.

  • There's one more way of dying. Try to cross the bridge (ropewalking) before Herman repairs it.

  • And thank you for showing the deaths too.

  • Brandon sounds like an adult??!!?? I thought Brandon is a kid.

  • It's freakin' strange to me to hear this game with speech.

  • @1xWertzui so true. :D

  • Man I've been trying to figure out the name of this game for yeaaaaars! Finally! It was one of the first games I played on floppy on my something like 33-100mhz piece of shit PC. XD I bought that PC for $3,500 back in 1991! It did come with a nice laser printer which was still new tech back then for a PC!

  • Kyrandia is the best quest game ever!

  • Love this game but I can't get the vocal audio to load... even when I use dosbox

  • @Melanatedone Perhaps you use the floppy version or your setting in the SETUP.EXE is wrong. Download the CD-rom version or run SETUP.EXE in DOSBox before running the game itself, and choose Soundblaster Pro for sound or something like it.

(damn I need this talkie version too!)

  • @1xWertzui - I used the cd version... in face, I have all of them. Somehow, for whatever reason, I always have problems playing older games on new systems.

  • I've never played Kyrandia with sounds,I've only heard the music but did you do with some people those sounds on the characters or is it original? And thx btw I enjoy watching Kyrandia and Quest For Glory series on youtube.

  • the 'final battle' scene with Malcolm is pretty awkward when you can tell both the Brandon and Malcolm VO are the same guy..

  • is this syncronised afterwards or the original talkie version? must have then!!

  • I miss the good old days of games like this

  • I wish this game was on iphone

  • howd you know what gemstones they would be? my games were alwas different

  • when games had intelligence and you needed brains to end them.

oh miss those days.lands of lore, monkey island, day of the tentacle kyrandia etc.

  • Oh man, I remember playing this game on a floppy disk on my 133 Mhz PC way back when. Brings back great memories, thanks!

  • I simply love this game as well as Kyrandia 2... my all time favorites :-)

The music and the pictures are beautiful, the dialoges totally entertaining. I agree on the gameplay though, it took a lot of time and nerve to finish the games :-D Still great memories...

  • IMHO this was a terrible game. Back then I had no idea what to do. There was so many useless recycled screens with terrible music.

  • @Boris247 WHAAAT? The music was beautiful! I'm not one to jump on someone else's opinion, but I'm seriously surprised anyone would say this lol!

  • Can anyone recommend some Kyrandia type games on any gaming system? Thanks

  • How can the interface be german and the speech english? And is this game aviable as German Talkie version? Im playing it without speech at the moment..

  • 47:00 That Cave was retarded.

  • "Your mother lives, for surely she has dressed you!"

Ohh you just got BURNED, Malcolm!

  • "Father can you hear me?-

    An apple!"

  • I dont know, that dragon is SHE))) In my game i dont hear voices))

  • @MissShaolindragon same here i too hear sounds...what shall we do?

  • @Fizafarooqui I try to find original version of Kyrandia. I dont hear only voises, not music, because i'm from Ukraine, and my game is a Russion version) Voices changed on Russion subtitles)

  • @MissShaolindragon okay.... :D

  • too bad for me after 0:25:30 it crashed everytime, and to find a new disk took me a lot of money but it was worth

  • he mad

  • there is a one more death, when you on flying platform, cast an ball spell and fly across water ...

  • i used to play this game back in 1994, on my macintosh

to bad i never finished it

  • EPIC!!!

  • masterbated to this for the 5th time :)

  • @sweetnssssssssssss 0:07:03

  • I was so in love with this game! Thank you!

  • The text is in German, but the audio is in English, right? :)

  • Wow, such good memories of this game. Thanks for the upload

  • There is a point in which you place an item for the fountain in your inventory and interupt some dialogue. I am afraid you need to redo the entire segment.

  • I remember this game!!! I could never get past the caves (until I found out you needed to place the fireberries in the adjacent rooms in order to walk around without getting jumped on once it got dark, lol). Fun times playing it though.

    :-)

  • hahah same here!

    :o)

  • There is one more way u die. Before fly to the Palace, if you try to fly with the purple ability at your amulet, a fish jumps and eats you !!!

Very nice job, and a wonderfull game ! Thanks

  • For anyone who has ever played this game and feared the cave creatures, here is a hint: The Fire berries don't expire if you leave them in a room! So you can gather and leave them, and then walk freely! I learned this after many unseen maulings!

  • How could you upload such a long video?

  • Read our channel FAQ :)

  • @cubex55 i did.. there is no FAQ answer for how comes that you can upload such a long video :(

  • I love Kyrandya!!!!! Mage it in modern and will be the greatest game vor the time!!!

  • I wish Westwood was still alive, they made GREAT games back in the days; Kyrandia, Lands of Lore, Red Alert. Now it's all EA, meh.

  • YAY! Mr. Garrison fixed the bridge

  • It sounds like there were a lot of Mr. Garrisons in this game. Great game and a classic.

  • Wow! Mr. Garrison is going to cut some new planks!

  • One of the best games ever - Thank you so much for this post!

  • Anyone know whereI can get this?

  • Nice BGM!

  • I love that Kyrandia humor!

  • Great game.. I played it when I was 4 years old :)

  • What to do if you arrive on the island with the castle WITHOUT any flower?

  • Well Paul, in that case you're fucked. I know because the same thing happened to me. I guess we got to start all over again. This is the second time I had to start all over again because that fucked-up inventory system makes it unclear what objects to keep and what to get rid off. Kyrandia 1 was a retarded game anyways. Freaking time-consuming and illogical fireberry maze!

  • Dat ben je dan zeker.

  • It was an incredibly imaginative, beautiful game. You're wrong, frankly. =\

  • To put it simply, you're screwed. :-(

  • the guy in the cave at the start sounds like Mr Mackey from South Park

  • Hey Brandon drugs are bad Mmmkay

  • 0:56:39 is the long take with my favorite music from the game, the first area.

  • If you computer is as old as you say it is... how did you run recording programs?

  • Where did you read this? He said "Back in the days i played Kyrandia on my 386DX (4MB, OAK VGA 512KB, Soundblaster 16, 1x speed CD-ROm ... what a monster! ^^)." that doesn't mean that he played LoK on that PC now.

    Peace!

  • Oh, woops, missed the "Back in the day" part :P

  • Ok I must ask how did you get the voices to work? I have tried this game with Dosbox and Scumm but no luck

  • awesome dude, thanks very much for posting this. I was like 11 when this first came out and I remember thinking how great it was.

  • awesome awesome video. brings back memories =)

  • UGH I hated that long random maze cave part, it was so frustrating.

  • Indeed, i had to use the trial and error technique. This is the best game of all 3 imo.

I just don't like the "humor" they tried to put in the next games... If they wanted a humurous game, the first one should be also humurous.

  • aww can't understand much without text. :/

I can quite understand written english, but is not so easy for speech.

  • i love this game :) thanks for published it

  • lol, nice :)

  • Herman at the bridge sounds like Mr. Garrison from South Park! lol

  • Great game.

  • that was fun to watch

  • Is it just me or does Brandon sound like Matthew Brodrick

  • Actually Brandon is voiced by none other than Joeseph Kucan, who later went on to play Kane of Command & Conquer fame.

  • Don't Thumbs Down Illuminati2347 you silly bastards... his info is proper!

  • @Illuminati2347 and the music is by Frank Klepacki who did the music for C&C as well.

  • Oh those were the days, those were the days.

  • "Wished 1000 times that Lucas Arts release Monkey Island 1 or 2 in a full talkie version too. " :O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O: epic^^^ with voices from MI3!!!!!!

  • I still have my cdrom version too! great game!

  • It looks fantastic! Is there anyway to actually get a real copy of this without having to be a pirate?

I would really like to play it.

  • The game is freeware now on the ScummVM website

  • lol pirate X3

    Great LP!

  • So, the text is German and the voices are English, can you change that or is their no option to change that?

Looks like an awesome adventure game though.

  • I think this game came with the English speech but with describing text in about 347 different languages ;-) - so non-native speakers could at least figure out where they were and what they saw....

  • Okay.

Well, I have no problem with the German text. I was just in general curious, lol. :D

  • I bet you don't have problems understanding German :-)

  • No. ^^

  • Cool! I like the narration. Classic.

  • Delicious storytelling. Oh, why did adventure games have to be forgotten?

  • One of my favorite games!!
