  • Mopar Built 3 Concept Cars In Between 84-86 I Think One Was Shelby,Plymouth Cuda.

One Other I Cant Think Of It Now.

Yours Is Nice Is It A Turbo ?

  • I'm jealous. I had an 86 Shelby Charger (black & silver, non-intercooled) that I did 120mph in while stationed in El Paso TX in 86-88 and that one supposedly only had 137hp! I agree, there were VERY underrated! Oh, I was blowing the doors off a mid 70s Chevy P/U w/a 350 4bbl at the time I was going 120mph..... and I didn't have it FLOORED. LOL!

  • @MoxieMike66 theyre supposed to have 146 hp and ive had one to 135 flat out (done it in a Chrysler Laser Turbo as well)...the GLHS version has 174 hp...and will hit almost 150. Just by swapping the chip out in the Turbo 1 for a Mopar Performance (still sold by Dodge for about $150) chip takes it from 146 to about 210 hp...works on any Turbo 1 engine....lol even the Dodge Caravan.

  • @netrioter I found an ebay add for an 87 GLHS w/the stage II chip for $3,500 in NY state, original owner (I live in NH)... you have NO idea how tempted I am! I knew a guy who tweaked a caravan from CT that showed up at the dragstrip every so often that was a daily driver... it ran 13's! Talk about a "Sleeper"! That was back when I worked top of staging in the mid 90's at New England Dragway.

  • @netrioter There was some rust on the rear hatch on the bottom left but considering the age, pretty darn nice! Alot of pictures, top & bottom. I think it had around 80Kmi on it, but again, for the year....I'd love to have it if for no other reason than to show up some of todays kids with their hopped up imports to show them they were'nt the first to turbo a 4cyl! ;-) Then again, that's probably a good reason my 79 KZ1000st has been off the road for the past 2yrs, I can't resist speed.

  • Nice car, gotta love the music, reminds me of the wraith

  • These FWD turbo cars were and are the future of high performance

  • This thing was a ROCKET off the line

  • glhs stands for goes like hell some more.. not shelby

  • Dodge built shit then. Dodge builds shit now... I'm seeing a trend

  • @FMX189 you obviously dont know what you're talking about those are no joke some of the baddest cars out there the charger, omni and the shelby aries are and always will be badass cars

and dodge didnt build them carrol shelby did you ass-hole

  • @The85GTMustang

is that all you could afford?

  • @FMX189 Ive seen Omni's out run corvettes..

ive seen a Dodge Shelby Daytona whoop mustang after mustang..

Even the newer Dodge Neon Srt will outrun or keep right with any V8,,

    Dodge makes good cheap horsepower..

  • @FMX189 haha! You truly don't know shit. Keep driving your piece of shit rice burner and dream of beating on of these cars in a race. They will out handle, out accelerate, and out speed any of your cars with hardly anything done to them.

  • i have always loved specialty or rare American cars, that is shurely one rare and in excelent condition Charger, congrats on the car!, what is the current value of one of those?... that thing there is cherry!!, i bet even Mr. Shelby would like to buy that one from you ;)

  • this car would be sick with the 2.3l turbo ford out of the svo

  • @juneya04 no it wouldnt

  • @juneya04 You don't swap parts between the 'Big 3', that's like cross dressing.

  • I had a 91 Spirit RT, and my bro had an 84 Omni GLH non turbo, both were fun cars when we were young.

  • @jet79637 no such thing as a GLH "non-Tubro"... its simply called a Horizon. and my twin has a shelby dodge charger, and i have a GLH, mine and his first car, and fuck, i love watching rice burner lovers get pissed when they get there ass handed to them by a "little omni".

  • @875109725710

Yes, there is such a thing as a GLH non-turbo. They are simply called GLH's. Turbo GLH's are called GLH-T's. There is no such thing as a non-turbo GLHS.

  • @Gaoler1973 Hm my GLH does not say GLH-T anywhere on it. But i guess it does say GLH Turbo so lol nvm. but i know the glhs has a turbo. my dad owns a GLHS # 76( first GLH to be sent to Shebly to be made a GLHS) its bad ass.

  • @875109725710 That's funny that you dad owns #76, I own #75!!! Is your dad's an 86 or an 87? Mine's 1987.

  • @Gaoler1973 idk I should ask him. People have been trying to get it from him. It's a four door btw.

  • @875109725710

The 4 doors are all 1986. 500 made. the 87's are 2 door and there was 1000 made.

  • @1987glhs lol I realize. My dad's is the lowest production model that was sent out to the public. I have a shelby dodge charger 1987 which there are 1011 made. But they never put numbers on them. Wish they did..

  • @Gaoler1973 It is a 86, strange though how it is a 76 but still happens to be the first to go to shelby. c i will have to talk more to him about it.

  • I bought an 87GLHS Chargers new..A lot of jerks snickered from their big block GMs and Fords back then..A few seconds later I was the one laughing and still am

Want one?Dont mess one up,buy a plain one.Leave classic Shelbys alone. Its got all needed as-is.

Shelby MOPAR owners don't have to prove anything. Posers w/plastic wanna-be GMs aka Camaro or Mustangs,go ahead, just spend your time IN the garage stroking your car+talking crap to your no nothing friends

    Stay out of our way

    Whittier=Shelby

  • I bought one of these in 1992 for 1100 bucks. Traded it for a stereo about 6-months later. The most unreliable car ever. But, I can appreciate the fact some people liked them. Not dissing the car, but it was no success story for me.

  • Anyone know if this 2.2 turbo and the 2.5 turbo are interchangeable? I have a 90 acclaim 2.5 turbo but it needs engine work. I think the head gasket grenaded in it

  • i got an 87 shelby charger-not numberd

  • its goes like hell somemore not goes like hell shelby!!!!! get it right lol

  • In late 88 I bought a 1987 (#25) for $13,000 with 30K miles on it... Blew the bottom end out (lot's of racing and qtr miles) at 53K miles..RC Eng in Long Beach rebuilt my motor, beefed up the tran, improved the head and we added a stage 2 chip from Shelby..It was too much fun for my maturity level at the time...It was putting out around 215-225 hp..Smokin the V8 of the day..Wife got pregnant..Was forced to sell...Damn..Fun, for a 4 banger front drive..

  • i never owned one of these, just a stock dodge shelby charger that i bought brand new in '85 as my first car. traded it in '88 for a dodge daytona shelby z w/ the 'turbo II' with intercooler that i believe is the motor in your car... i remember shelby testing 16v heads and more, but don't remeber them making it to market.

either way, 142 hp to 174 hp way a big jump!

i hope to pick one up in the near future since i have so many good memories about this model.

    enjoy your classic' car!

  • I own #902 Love these cars. Have had 3 of them now to date. They were way ahead of there time. Also owned 4 Shelby Chargers they were junk to the Whitter based cars.

  • damn that is nice..I myself, have an 83 all stock, but pretty..love yours as well :-)

  • I bought one in 85.Paid $12,500 cdn. I kept it for 18 months and only got $5K for it. It was a piece of crap. The cranck seal had to be changed...4 times !!! The flasher arm was about 3 inches from the steering wheel.. There was aventilation control under the dash on the passenger side...almost impossibleto reach while driving. The thing had gobs of turbo lag....floor the gas and wait.... It was and still is one one the biggest jokes ever to hit the road.

     I got sucked in.

  • chipper, what you bought in 85 was, I'm guessing, a Dodge Shelby Charger as the GLHS Charger was only made in 1987. I have owned Shleby Chargers in the past, and currently own 1987 GLHS #75. Believe me, there is no comparing the two! The GLHS's boost comes on a lot sooner and a lot harder! oh.. and they only came with A/C so you don't have to worry about that vent control knob you're talking about, as only non A/C cars have that.

  • Turbo lag is only an issue if you don't know how to drive.

  • One of my first cars a 1985 Dodge Shelby Turbo. No intercooler could of made it fast if I knew what I had. The seats were great the blue silver combo. But sadly it left me on the side of the hwy twice and get this the same ambulance driver picked me up.

  • I had a 89' daytona 3.0L V6 5 speed stock. bought it a scrap yard from old guy trying to get more then $100 from the yard ..i bought $200 ..needed a water pump ..was like new His son moved to china Awsome car had it 6 years sold it for 800 still running good

  • To be correct, its not Goes like hell shelby, its goes like hell somemore

  • No. GLHS stood for Got Loose Hellacious Shits.... Those cars were, from an engineering standpoint, foul nasty DIARRHEA soaked in your pants and leaching down your legs....

  • @waterfordjim @waterfordjim don't like one, don't buy one.... most of the people watching this vid like them. We don't give a crap what you think. Funny how Chrysler was building tuner cars back in `85 10 years before the whole tuner-mod, fast and furious crowd got going.

  • I had one of these and they were awesome. Mine was # 744 if I recall. I had a 83 Charger 2.2 with 95 hp that I bought new and was pretty quick at the time. When I got the GLHS in 91, it was a monster compared to the 83. 175 hp was the king of the road back then and would blow the doors off of vettes at the time.

  • These last 1000 Shelby Chargers were done by Carroll Shelby himself at his Whittier, CA factory, after which Chrysler had pulled the plug on the original Dodge Charger and Plymouth Turismo in 1987.

These were extensively modded that these were not "Dodge" Shelby Chargers.

  • The front overhangs on these are HUGE!!
