@79thOVI yeah, surplus ammo will "leave" out of the barrel differently than modern ammo due to variances in powder quality, even a .001 size difference will affect where it lands on paper. U should measure ur surplus bullets and see how different each one is, u would be surprised...

Nice grouping with the M 24/47. I will have to look at J&G. Most of my milsurps with commercial ammo ( mainly all I use ) will shoot high. I always thought it was due to the rifles old battle sights. The only milsurp that I have that is dead on; is a K98 from Mitchell's (Yes I will probably get crucified for saying Mitchell's Mausers) but the rifle is extremely accurate. I have an Argentine and it shoots very high; about 6" @ 100yds although it is centered on the target. I just always as

@zzohmzz They typically don't want folks standing, so I didn't...before they stopped doing that at GPSR, I did some stand-up shooting...across the board, I had the hardest time with the M91/30, that one seldom hit paper. But the Mausers do alright, I can at least hit paper at 100 yards...

nice vid. i have noticed with my mosin that the sights need no adjustment below 200 yards, t will shoot 1~2" high anything closer than 200. did u shoot standing up or from a bench. i cant hit the broad side of a barn standing at 100

See the russian were the first to make the design, and were in such a rush making them that they just mass produced them quick as they could to supply their armies, in doing so they lacked in quality. It wasnt until after a few other countries adopted the design an tweaked out the bugs that simply made it a better well rounded rifle. Get yourself a Finnish model, the later made rifles of Finland an Poland are the best on the market.

Mosin's are a damn fine weapon, its the make that gives it quality, the russian's suck... get yourself a finnish M39 or a Polish M44 and you will see a BIG difference in accuracy, floating the barrel on a russian nagant will do you little to no good. I have a Polish M44 stamped 1952 and i fire Polish steel core FMJ out of it and it is EXTREMELY accurate at 150yrds, i can put 5 rounds inside a 3inch circle all day.

Whole problem with the mosin's grouping was that Romanian ammo, it sucks... pretty much anything made in romania sucks... thats why they copy designs from other countries cause they... themselves... suck...

@KAPichon True for the most part...but just about all M91/30s have grouping issues because the ammo AND the guns are not the greatest...I shoot Russian and Czech (sellier/bellot) ammo in these things, even reloads, and most of my mosins just can't get a tight grouping...I need to try floating the barrel at some point..

My Yugo capture K98k shoots high and to the right with Yugo surplus 8MM, You could try using other surplus to see which is the best in the K98k, nice shooting also. Gonna have to get me one of them m24/47 sometime soon

@theotherhomer Yeah...like the guy sez below, I'm sure the ammo has something to do with it. But it also shoots high with commercial and reloaded 8mm Mauser too, so I'm sure it's more the gun in my circumstances.  The M24/47 though shoots a lot better...then again, the barrel isn't nearly as worn out or used, I'm sure that helps a lot.

certian mausers shoot high with certian ammo its not you or the gun just the ammo
