you know, this movie may have been one of many to jump on the animals gone wild bandwagon Jaws started, but it is one of the few (one of the others being Orca) that is actually a decent movie in itself. Rather then a man in a suit or puppet at nearly all times, this is the first film I know of that uses a real animal in a great many of the shots.
@phoniexkai man enough with thr Chuck Norris jokes ok, they are about as old as he is now. I mean he used to be cool, but now you got a 70 year old actor who hasn't made a (decent) movie in 20 years, and now peddles workout equipment on infomercials.
i saw this movie as a kid and loved it.just watched it again on turner classics of few months back and still enjoyed the film.always thought that christopher george was a really good actor.some of the scenes in grizzly were pretty intense.that's got to be a pretty bad feeling, knowing your about to be eaten alive.
I love GRIZZLY. I saw it at the tender age of 11 in theaters. I watched almost the whole thing through my fingers. I was a big wuss back then. But we all were talking about it on the playground afterwards, exagerrating the death scenes of course. We didn't care that it was a direct Jaws ripoff. Now it looks cheesy but it wasn't back then. Of course after Grizzly was successful then came killer ants, bees, piranhas, octopi, tarantulas. It did get tiresome, like all trends.
Girdler was a good storyteller. What he lacked in budget he made up for with an energetic narrative. This is certainly one of the best of the "Jaws" knock-offs.
There's another old flick with a monster grizzly bear called Prophecy, and it's better than this one. They show it alot on some television stations today.
This movie wasn't bad for its time. I still to this dsay find myself wanting to see it again and again. It did for bears, what jaws did for the water. I would love to see this movie remade, better, more up to date, and more terrorfying then before. I would go see it.
It kind of wierd. Grizzly keeps people out of the forest, Jaws keeps people out of the water, It keeps people away from anything attatched to the sewers, Tremors keeps people out of the desert, Friday the 13th keeps people away from lakes, Nightmare on elm street keeps people from falling asleep, etc..
I wasn't there, me being 19 and all, but I'd like to respectively call bullshit to that. GRIZZLY was huge, especially for its budget. It's fairly well remembered today, and at the time it was the highest grossing independent film of all time (though it only stayed that way for 2 years). I'd say Grizzly was extremely successful for what it was.
In the movie, I remember that the bear left claw marks 18-20 feet high on a tree. And man oh man, but how could I forget the scene where Not-so-Gentle Ben knocks down a Ranger Tower to get his dinner? Utterly insane!
This a it is orginal Jaws

The best (and only killer bear flicks out there, in no particular order):
1. Grizzly
2. Grizzly Rage
3. Grizzly Park
4. Wild Grizzly
5. Bear
6. Claws

This was a VHS ad. Not the theatrical trailer.
And honestly, trailers today are fucking terrible. They all play out the exact same way.
