Presupposing biblical authority is a bad idea. We already know it wasn't accurately preserved and we have good indication certain canonized documents are forged in the name of apostles to bolster an opposing theological view. On the other hand, general revelation can be misinterpreted (as is frequently the case with the written bible), but authorship can't be altered.
@StormTrek By the way, I would further argue that the bible is not the word of God; it is an attempt to build a systematic theology through human observation and imagination. Thus, it can and should be mined for ideas but not elevated as an authority.
