this is a much simpler version of the Ladder and Shuttle disentanglement puzzle by Uncle's Puzzles (5 rungs instead of 3). To solve, think only about rings. Go to 2:11, where you thread the first ring. Call this ring 3 being "on", and the ones in front 2 and 1 being "off". Now the rule is you can take on or off a ring if only the next higher ring is on. In sum:
seems complicated but once you get the rules of when you can take a ring on and off you can do it in about 10 sec.

Steps: put on 3, put on 1, put on 2, take off 1, take off 3, put on 1, take off 2, take off 1.
To put them back together, reverse it: put on 1, put on 2, take off 1, put on 3, put on 1, take off 2, take off 1.
