That is why there are no recordings circa late 1964 to 1969. He left secret recordings to the FBI and CIA. Nixon had them reinstalled upon his election as president.

LBJ passed the most bills any President has passed in HISTORY. Son of a gun worked day and night. JFK barely spent time doing research, stupid amateur.

I've just read the transcripts in the new LBJ book by Phillip Nelson. In one of them Hoover tells LBJ there is very little evidence against Oswald and that it probably won't hold up at trial. A day later, Oswald is killed. No trial needed now!

I'm sure LBJ was intelligent enough not to incriminate himself on tape, lol. In truth, lian Lyndon was a monster. He paid his psychiatrists millions on his death bed to keep their mouths shut. The tape could mean two targets -- if Connally had not been there, all the shots might have been aimed at Kennedy. Oswald could not be sure which person was JFK so he just shot at both.

Many people close to LBJ pointed the assassination finger ( after he died) at him and he and Edgar Hoover are on phone making sure the assassination was pinned on Oswald and no one else - is that a real investigation? Kennedys didnt like him and he hated them. Ruby did not vote for Kennedy or even like him according to Jack Anderson.

For all his glaring flaws (vulgarity, major foreign policy errors, Vietnam), LBJ was the most effective politician not named FDR in the last hundred years. More was done for civil liberties under Johnson then under all the presidents following him. Unfortunately, everyone's brainwashed with the whole "Camelot" story of the Kennedys thinking JFK and his brother were some sort of "staunch progressives." People should stop watching Oliver Stone films and really delve into real history.

@apostolostv Indeed mate, so many people are clearly uneducated. JFK was an amateur and didn't do much, LBJ passed more bills than any other President. FDR was the man of the century, and LBJ is right behind him. Unfortunately, LBJ failed in his foreign policy, should never have escalated Vietnam, but if you put his Domestic policies up in place, he was a great man for America.
Most of these loons don't know history, they don't read books and research, they just watch conspiracy movies.

he recorded his phone calls because of several possible reasons !)wanted to see if he could improve his communication technique and see if what he said was correct with hind sight.. it might also be that he has a bad memory and needed to record them for future reference due to this bad memory or the fact that he had so many phone calls wanted to allways record them because he didnt want critisism about anything he said that might be used against him

@peterpetersnbg - LBJ did not "choose" to be recorded. LBJ inherited this from JFK. JFK had these recording devices installed in the oval office for his memoirs. LBJ had the removed as soon as he legally could. He also further prohibited any recording devices anywhere within the executive branch as long as he was president. That is why there are no recordings circa late 1964 to 1969. He left secret recordings to the FBI and CIA. Nixon had them reinstalled upon his election as president.

He's solely responsible for two of the three greatest pieces of democratic policy in the history of this great country, the civil rights act of 1964 and the voting rights act of 1965. His theoretical "Great Society" and "War on Poverty" were also groundbreaking visions. Before you say anything remember, Nixon and Reagan fought a war on drugs and drugs won.

These are not "secret" tapes. They were installed by JFK, and they were inherited by LBJ. LBJ worked to have them removed from the oval office as soon as legally possible. Upon the rmoval of these recording devices, LBJ forbid any further recording mechanisms in the White House. The recordings of LBJ are more readily available than the truly "secret" recordings from the same device pertaining to the JFK administration. Try to find JFK recordings from the oval office.

LBJ had nothing to do with JFKs murder. If anything, and this, too, has not been proven, he MAY have known of an impending attept on JFKs life, just as JFK knew of an impending attempt on Diem's life. With RFK as US Attorney General at the time of JFKs death, he tried relentlessly and in vain to associate LBJ to JFKs death and he, with all his personal reasons, could not find a shred of evidence linking LBJ to JFKs death. Enough said.

When LBJ lost his first run at congress, LBJ was told by FDR "never fully disclose the extent of your votes." In 1948, LBJ won his senate seat with some pecuiliar votes from southern Texas counties, but that was Texas politics then. You cannot convince me Pappy O'Daniel or Coke Stevenson did not produce suspect votes in both these races. LBJ, in fact, revolutionized, or better stated, modernized campaign tactics with his use of TV, statewide appearences and his famous Johnson City Windmill.
