They were the only tall trees not near homes and the hawks and kites used them all the time, there was also one big nest that I could see. This area is not being developed. It is outside the road zone. Was it they could not continue the road with large birds of prey nesting near by the reason they cut down this grove? Then they could get the ok because they were no longer disturbing endangered animals?

these are non- native trees, and are not a natural part of the ecosystem. Just saying.
