Bhagvad gita says that for a person belonging to a specific caste (solely based on his professions not birth) what are the qualities he requires to excel in his work and thus be successful. Varnaashrama does not mean colour based division it means Varna- colour/classification absed on Shrama - Labour/work. Indian labour ministry is known as Shrama mantralay. People who wanted to gain popularity and power in early days manipulated the sacred eligious saying so did periyar with emotions of people.
if Indira was a prominent god why don't these papans have a temple for indira now?
these papans cannot digest a non brahmin written kural as great they attribute every
great work to be from the Vedas-YET THERE IS NOT ONE WORTH INVENTION TO BE LINKED TO THESE IDIOTS VEDA==WHEN THEY SPEAK OF JYOTISHYA THEY STILL BELIEVE SUN AND MOON AS PLANETS.these fools did not have one worth while debate with great people like periyar or ambedkar.not only they live in foolish thinking LIKE CHAMELEONS CHANGE.
@pumpvelu Kindly learn more about Hindusim before making such ignorant comments. In Science, planet is a term that is given to define the ones that rotate around sun. Jyotisha was not exactly same as science and it uses the concept of Nava grahas. The grahas as defined in Jyothisa were considered as one that have impact on human life and need not map one for one with the 9 planets that rotate around sun. Moon is significant because it has direct bearing on earth.
@jayaram67 which type of Hinduism would you like me to know,? in all your comments i find you trying to justify the word graha or nava grahas which according to you has bearing or impact on human life and that moon has a direct bearing on earth although it is proved to be a satellite of earth which if accepted then all the numerous satellites sent from earth should also have some bearing on earth.wake up jayaram it is very imminent that foolish belief will erode intelligence like.the Vedas say
@pumpvelu Moon does have a direct impact on earth. Ever heard of huge waves on a new moon day due to moon's gravity. As for how the grahas affect us, I have practically seen people suffer miserably when certain Dasas of a person's horoscope come active. And disasters through water were predicted when Saturn moved into the house of cancer few years ago and the world had Tsunami and several thousands died, There could be other dimensions that we do not entirely understand.
@pumpvelu Science can not prove everything and there are several unknown things in this world. Science can ‘t even give life by itself to a Mosquito without using the genes that cells that were already from a mosquito.
@pumpvelu There are hindu rituals where Devas such as Indra, Agni, Vayu are invited through Vedic mantras to certain offerings made during Yagnas or prayers even thought Indra did not have a temple of his own. Knowledge is universal. Valluvar may have had the knowledge of Vedas as Vedas were so old. There is no evidence that Valluvar did not have knowledge of Vedas and whether he had it or not it has no bearing on the greatness of Kural.
@jayaram67 if valuvar had knowledge of the Vedas he would be the first to criticize purusha sukta in his great kural if Vedas were god given which god or gods would love to sit and enjoy soma juice or tell humans about yama and yami or that advise his subjects to perform ashvamedha and enjoy the Caracas of the ritual horse yes we agree it is so old that it is only for that period of time meant only for primitive people devoid of any philosophy.the mantras are the gibberish poetry to fool humans
@pumpvelu I am sorry, if you think Mantras are gibberish, it is your opinion and you have the right to hold onto your opinion. Sacrifice is has been there in every religion. Go read old testament of the bible and you will know. There are fire rituals in there too where animal was sacrificed and offered to god as a burnt offering.
@pumpvelu What Cho is stating is many of Kurals do go along with the Vedic concepts which have Hindu roots and not otherwise. BTW, Why do you bring in Brahmins here. Vedas are not owned by Brahmins rather they were god given. To prove the truth one does not have to debate with every ignorant soul that the earth comes out with time and again. E.V.Ramasamy and co are fit to be ignored.
@pumpvelu Please note I do not even want to associate the term "Periyar" to EVR as I have no knowledge about his personal nature. He is known more for his anti religion and anti brahmin ideas. Having said that I do not think that any man brahmin or otherwise is superior by Birth. If I have to quote Avvayar, Ittar periyor, Idathar izhikulathor if you understand that. If periyar subscribes to the idea of periyor as Avvai stated then let him be periyar
@jayaram67 the word periyar is the honor liberated daliths bestowed upon EVR i am sorry i cannot read the meaning of Tamil quotes in Tamil yes translated by EVR many FACTS hidden for centuries by born brahmins has opened the eyes of many like me.if you think that Brahman is not superior by birth please refresh yourself with manu smriti. all brahmins consider themselves as superior by birth hence wear the thread of identification as given by manu.NO BRAHMAN HAS GIVEN ANYTHING WORTHY TO HUMANITY
@pumpvelu The thread or poonal as the brahmins call it is not a sign of superiority. It is a symbol of self restraint. Enlightened people do not think of themselves as superior. I am not stating all brahmins are enlightened. There are some. Ittar means someone who is charitable and gives away wealth, idathar means the opposite. What Avvai is stating is that one who is generous is greater (or periyar). Basically this also means no one is greater by birth.
@pumpvelu How about the Nobel Laurates C.V.Raman, Subramanyan chandrashekar and most recently Venkataraman? These were all brahmins and per you did not do anything for humanity but still got nobel prizes which were awarded for individuals who contribute to human kind in an exceptional way? There were other brahmins too- Subramanya bharathi, Vu.We. Swaminatha Iyer, Vanjinathan (who sacrificed his life on the night of his wedding in freedom struggle). We could find more examples if we dig in.
@pumpvelu Why single out brahmins who are such a minority? How many upper cast non brahmins are open to marriage alliances with a harijan or lower cast? In TN / AP etc, we hear of caste clashes where several people get killed and the fact is brahmins are not the one who cause these, it is the non brahmins who fight with the harijans and other lower castes.
@pumpvelu Cho does not seem to be taking pride in having been born as a brahmin or Paapan in your term. Go listen to what Cho has to say about brahmins where he states that being a brahmin is not about having been born to brahmin parents but one who practices truth, piousness, self discipline, compassion and selfnessness. (See the you tube video Cho explanation - Caste System).
@pumpvelu Devas do not have temples because they occupy the second rung in godhood. As far as manusmriti is concerned, that is the first book to mention about upper and lower caste. The vedas do not mention such caste divisions (upper and lower). Let me tell you something, Valmiki was not a bramhin, nor is Vishwamitra. Bramhins revere ramayana and chant gayatri mantra (by vishwamitra). The religious corruption by a few has led to the problem of illogical caste divisions.
@TAKSVENKAT this is the line brahmins take that it is not varnaashrama but varna shrama if varna is not colour what can be more authentic when they say the varna of a Sudra is black and that of a Brahman is white.the argument that valmiki was not a brahmin is unfounded because a Sudra valmiki will not let RAMA kill a Sudra shambuka in his version of Ramayana.the reason brahmins love and revere Ramayana is only for the fact that Ramayana teaches how our great Rama can kill and cheat Sudras
@pumpvelu Valmiki was not Bramhin by birth, his original name is ratnakar, he was an aadivasi (tribal) who was also a thief. He became a rishi and thus a bramhin by deed not by birth. Shambuka was cursed to be born as a shudra and be killed by Rama for his salvation. Thus Rama did not do any injustice, he freed him from the curse. Sabari in Ramayana was shudra by birth and Lord Rama ate the fruit after she tasted them. He never did injustice to anyone.
@TAKSVENKAT the only crime shambuka did was to practice the Vedas which resulted in a brahmin boys death and to revive the brahmin boy OUR GREAT RAMA KILLED A SUDRA? AND WHAT WAS THE CURSE OF SHAMBUKA.? why is it in all our epics it is only shudras are cursed if Rama did not do any injustice how do you justify his back stabbing of vali and getting his widowed wife to be gifted as trophy to sugriva.sabari wanted to taste the berries so that Rama gets the ripe ones YET RAMA gave sabari nothing
The Thenkalai Iyengars (now bramhins) are actually shudras and people of other castes in origin. Ramanuja in 12th century clarified that the varna clasiification is not based on birth and that everyone had the right to worship and pray god. He not only led the lower caste people into the temple but he made special provisions during ceremonies during which they would prepare and dress the vigraha (statue) for oorvalam (procession).
@TAKSVENKAT dear,if Ramanujan converted shudras to brahmins and those shudras today are brahmins what great difference does it make DID HE SAY THERE ARE TO BE NO SHUDRAS YET HIS OWN HOUSE HOLD WORKER WAS A SUDRA AND HE DID NOT CONVERT HIM.HE TOOK SANYAS leaving his brahmin wife to fend for herself.the reason that preparing a oorvalam vigraha was an eye wash to attract poor shudras to spend their hard earned money they did not nor will they do to allow shudras to perform pooja in the sanctum .
@pumpvelu Asuras were born to Kashyapa muni so people who believe that asuras were dravidians and Ravana was also not a dravidian, his father was a sage by the name Vishrava. The british and later Mr. E.V. Ramaswani have corrupted the minds of the people for fulfilling their own political Ambitions. Look at Bramhins like Ramanuja and Subramanya Bharathi both converted several non-bramhins to bramhins by performing the thread ceremony (upanayanam) and denounced caste based discrimination.
@19mukilan81 Also go over the episode from the same show "Ramanujar the social reformer" where Cho talks highly about social reformation where people should not see others differently. You will understand Cho is not promoting brahminism. We have to be happy that there are such knowledgeable people who can impart supreme knowledge in us. So don't use bad words against such people
budha never founded any religion called budhism. buddha was at best a hindu social reformer who preached against rituals and animal sacrifices. Maybe his followers formed a separate cult in his name.
So what about mahaveera? LOL! (Don't take it seriously).. Yes in hinduism he is called as the Shakyamuni... But I think he didn't belong to any religion other than buddhism.. I believe it was just an hijack though not sure...
All Indian religions are "Hindu" religions. Hinduism is an umbrella term for all the Indian religions, just as "abrahamic" is an umbrella term for Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In fact, the term "Hindu" itself was used by the muslims to refer to the people of Indus valley civilization.
OK.. But we call buddhism as "buddhism" to differentiate it from the vedic tradition (which is usually referred to as Hinduism) This is because Buddha rejected all the vedic scriptures and proposed the eight fold path.. Yes, it is a well known fact that the Parsis were unable to pronounce the letter "S" in Sindu (it is in this river bank the indus valley civilization burgeoned) and ultimately they addressed the civilization as "Hindu".. After sometime, someone made it an "ism" (religion)..
Buddha did not reject anything in Hinduism. Eventually, "Buddhism" became a powerful movement, which took a political shape & challenged the authority of Brahmins. On a philosophical level, Buddhism isn't any different from the very many diverse schools of thought we have in Hinduism. Advaita is very close to Buddhism. If that is considered Hindu, then Buddhism should also be.
