Nice transitions. I'm flipping a nice 29 I bought right up the street from Giro's. I'll be in Batangas in a few weeks to get some more for the collection.
DUDE! I went to that particular store you are in last December of 2009, and I swear I saw Denzel Washington's machete in "The Book Of Eli" also the Kukri from the movie "Underworld"! there are rumors that Hollywood asks people from Taal Batangas to make their swords (e.g. LOTR and Braveheart) IDK if that is true tho! O_O
@eatmars you sir are a jackass and i am not fillipino but i do know much about balisongs( butterfly knives) and good quality knifes such as proffesional knives cost from $250- $2500 from what i have seen and many guns do not even have a price that high unless it is a very nice hunting rifle or pistol.
@eatmars I don't think so. A person earning the minimum wage can buy a gun, heck even a person who's earning nothing can get one. Go to a place called Tondo and you'll know. It's like Detroit. There's always a person dying from a gunshot. A lot of Filipinos who can afford, just don't like to carry guns. Unlike in other countries, we are not a paranoid or "security-freak" people.
These guys sure know how to handle a blade.I've noticed most of the moves they use partially conceal the blade while switching from one hand to another.
I don't know about that, if you ask around in Balisong, Batangas they'll tell you it's been around since before the Spaniards came, being one of the minor weapons used in Arnis (Kali or Eskrima, as foreigners like to call it - it's not the general term for it here in the Philippines), it's mostly used by Tagalogs or those from the main island of Luzon. I understand there is a similar knife made by the French in the 16th century, maybe it influenced the current style being made in Batangas.
Funny you speak of the Batangas, my Filipino friend Kyle just picked me up 3 Filipino Hand Mades when he was in the Calabarzon region.
Anyways there's much speculation about the balisong's origin. I, myself, am about 50% French, so yes as you stated I regularly call it a French peice or cutlery. I mean the French get made fun of in everything; I mean GIVE US SOMETHING!
OOps made a mistake and deleted it by accident - it was a comment that the Balisong is from Europe but mastered by the Filipinos.
My take on is is that concepts can be thought of anytime and anywhere...what matters to me is the concrete aspect of the art, meaning we have a town that specializes int he creation of the balisong and we have a knife culture that also specializes int he use of the blade..it's all good.
So the native name is Arnis? Cool cause I like to use the legit terms, not the lame terms... Plus I think people probably came up with the same types of weapons all over the place, like swords, bows, spears, EVERYONE has a type of spear thing. It could just be chance that they are similar. It seems like a Philipono type of weapon compared to other Arnis weapons.
beautiful. i love the balisong, i only started about 3 months ago but i love it, need to get a decent one though. anyone know where to get them around birmingham? lol seriously though
I love this video. You should try to get a clearer video from the website you got it from, but it's just a suggestion. Anyways Hoorah! for Balisong! :)

The knives are illegal here in the UK too. It makes no sense. It's the blade that kills, not the handle design. I used to have a few of them.
