I have this TV, But its a 6000 Series, I got it for like 1600$USD and its a 55 inch. At the time they cost around 3200$. I plan on buying an extra 2 year warranty for this TV. I have just one question. Do you keep your brightness at a constant 10? because i usually have mine between 2-6. I rarely keep it at a constant 10, maybe for movies, but then drop down the brightness. This should make the tv last for a long time.
The multimedia browsing applicability from the usb ports is fucking kickass. I love the categorization. I intend to buy the samsung 46" led for the holidays. In the near future, I will most likely purchase a ps3 and a logitech revue to accompany this.. I will also utilize this system as an external monitor for my toshiba laptop, among other things...
Love this TV...looked nice with the TV Stand it includes, but I like it more with a wall mount or in the way I have it which is a Bell'O TV stand all black(Piano Black) and the glass is all black as well but at the edges of the glass it has ToC(touch of color) red accents. Its a high TV stand so it saves all the work of mounting it to a wall
Have read so many negative comments about Samsung's reliability and lack of after sales service, can anyone advise me? Are these new Samsung LED TVs reliable in the long-term? Has Samsung's after sales service improved?
The thing with the Herz is a total dust in the eyes, a marketing trick... you can see that it still flickers and the Hz measure the SCANNING rate of the ELECTRON ray in the Electron Cathode Tube, and this TV does not have a ECT. In LCD technology the RESPONSE time is what matters.
And by he way, grate peace of technology you got there :)

i heard this tv's off angle viewing is not the best. im thinking about buying it, but for that much money i dont want crappy off angle viewing. how bad is it?
i personally bought the 6000 series for 2000 dollars from bestbuy last month. It is an amazing tv. The reason why i didnt buy a higher model is because i already have a ps3 (with linux loaded on) so i can already web browse. I also have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
The quality is still REALLY GOOD (it is an led afterall) and the 4 hdmi inputs are always a plus along with the vga connection which i really like since i bought a netbook to keep connected to my entertainment unit.
@Kerpaltheballer really all man i just got mine this past friday for $1499.99 at best buy too, you should have waited, or if you wanted to spend that much $ get the 240hz or the 8 or 7 series for nearly the same price as the 2grand you dished out
@esrohtsaf95 Man, you are forgetting this guy got the TV almost an year ago. He enjoyed the TV for a longer time than you :) So its worth the wait. Even I bought it 3 months ago for abt 1850. But the thing is, if u wait for another 6 months, you would get that further 300-400 $ less than what you got it for :)
Im getting a series 6 LED 46" Samsung today..was by far the BEST picture amongst a sea of LCD tv's at the store. The contrast and clarity are worth it.
that tv is thin as hell. it looks awesome but im always skeptical about the reliability of all this new tv technology. they pump out tons of new technology before they even perfect the basics
I know You Tube isn't the best place to see the picture quality for TV's but this TV seems pretty damn sweet even on Youtube, however with its pricey nature I wont be getting this TV, do you know if the Series 6 LED TV's are any good?
The series 6 has 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio and runs 100hz so i think its brilliant. but it is an earlier model so you might have to do some research on any faults and such
the HDTV is seriously better than my last flat panel.
in terms of current sets, this samsung LED is a bit better in terms of color, resolution and dynamics. A number of magazines have now reviewed this LED unit.
Have you tried installing the new firmware update for this tv? According to CNET it significantly improves picture quality. If so, did you find this to be true? If you had to do it again would you still have bought it?
I ask because I am considering buying the 8000 for the holidays. Thanks for your insight!
i have the set connected to the web with an ethernet cable so i do have the latest fimware/software. i have not notice the change as i did not look for one.
i highly recommend this set and i am well into my 4+month with it.
I just got an open box of the 46 incher at Best Buy for $1899. Not too bad. I had to get a sound bar because the internal speakers are weak sauce. I love the clarity of this set.
hi , i just bought this tv yesterday , what do you think is the best picture settings for either bluray or videogames hope you can help me im kind of new with this hdtvs thanks.

Slick looking TVs samsung has these days. Im personally waiting for the 8500 series to come out next month because it is a "Back-lit" LED instead of "Edge-Lit" like this tv (6 series, 7 series & 8 series are all Edge-lit).
Against my better judgement and many bad reviews detailing the edge-lit problem (creating a flashlight effect in dark scenes), I paid $3000 for the 8000 last week (9/05/09) at the evil BestBuy. Thinking about returning it soon while I can. Do you know if the 8500 series will be as thin as the 8000 series?? Thanks.
I'm thinking about getting this set on Saturday, but one question, Is the 8000 series worth it? Correct me if I am wrong, but the only difference between the 7000 and 8000 series is the 120hz vs 240hz, Internet/media features, and the better contrast of the 8000 series? I saw the 8000 series at Best Buy and it looked amazin, but I didnt get a chance to see and compare the 7000 to the 8000. Your thoughts?
with blu-ray playback, there is no grain whatsoever with any good blu-ray disk like Planet Earth (BBC Series) or movies like Phantom of the Opera.
at 28" to the screen, in a dark room, you feel like you're in a theater, as the faces are at the identical size and perspective to you. add some fan blowing at a distance for the faux spatial effect.
SD is better than most LCD but still not CRT like. That is still an issue. It is however as good as any plasma I have seen lately.
a suggestion here is to get the Oppo 83 blu-ray which does sd-dvd up conversion really well. for tv, use Plex on the mac or VLC on Vista for OTA playback with Samsung as monitor.
Do you have any flashlighting issues? Does this set drop frames w/auto motion on?

I would be grateful for your reply.

so the tv has a perfectly sharp image? even up close is the picture as perfect as it should be from a distance? what about standard def?

i use it from 27 inches at the closest from my desk chair as a Vista and MAC monitor.
after calibrated with i1 Display and color match software, it looks like another Apple Cinema Display, just that this one is 46".
Photoshop and Final Cut Pro is now very easy.
for movies, watching at 28" to 3 feet is already sharp without any noticeable grain or borders.

part 2
with blu-ray playback, there is no grain whatsoever with any good blu-ray disk like Planet Earth (BBC Series) or movies like Phantom of the Opera.
at 28" to the screen, in a dark room, you feel like you're in a theater, as the faces are at the identical size and perspective to you. add some fan blowing at a distance for the faux spatial effect.

last part
SD is better than most LCD but still not CRT like. That is still an issue. It is however as good as any plasma I have seen lately.
a suggestion here is to get the Oppo 83 blu-ray which does sd-dvd up conversion really well. for tv, use Plex on the mac or VLC on Vista for OTA playback with Samsung as monitor.
hope this helps

i heard that when it gets to dark scenes the screen completely goes black as a part of the dimming feature, can this be turned off?
hermanoguzman 2 years ago
there is 5 different settings for "blacks"
the off position will allow you to discern the borders
