this is not a modern engine...its based design extends back to 1980 older than the one in your vehicle. if it had the new 3.6 dohc, it then would walk all over.

That's what I love about GM engines. The 3800 series engines were V6 but they had V8 like power or the I should say the engine has a V8 groan to it when you step on it. The same applies for the 3.9L, and the High Feature 3.6L engine.
mine is rated at 233 hp. at first it did suck gas more than the 3.5. but have the active fuel managment and 60,000 miles on it, I usually average about 32 mpg. I find that great for the power and the size of the vehicle. do you have a 3.5?
Ive been averaging about 29 in mix driving but the most ive ever been able to get is about 31 or 32.. And YES its for the 3.6 V6.. "Im very light with the peddle" And plus I always use TAPSHIFT which really helps in the fuel economy dept.LOL!

The difference is that the car is already in motion. I have an LT 3.5 and if I make a quick left turn and then accelerate into traffic, my car gets to 60 pretty fast too. It also helps if one doesn't floor the pedal.
actually, they are about the same. The 3.9 has a different intake manifold than the 3.5 to help with the lack of low end torque, but it lowers its top end. they are the same engine essentially. I have an LT 3.5 and i raced a 3.9 from a 20mph roll and won b/c after 5000rpm, i would start to pull away. but when we went from 0mph, he won b/c he could get off the line a little quicker.

That's what I love about GM engines. The 3800 series engines were V6 but they had V8 like power or the I should say the engine has a V8 groan to it when you step on it. The same applies for the 3.9L, and the High Feature 3.6L engine.

mine is rated at 233 hp. at first it did suck gas more than the 3.5. but have the active fuel managment and 60,000 miles on it, I usually average about 32 mpg. I find that great for the power and the size of the vehicle. do you have a 3.5?

Ive been averaging about 29 in mix driving but the most ive ever been able to get is about 31 or 32.. And YES its for the 3.6 V6.. "Im very light with the peddle" And plus I always use TAPSHIFT which really helps in the fuel economy dept.LOL!

@dubChemistry Actually, as of late, it's the Japanese who have been having the serious problems. Honda can't build an Automatic to save their lives, Subaru had issues with headgaskets and turbos (Which were, granted, mostly user error) and Toyotas have had rusting frames, failing brakes and more.
It seems an American car breaks more, but it's less major, whereas when the Imports go, they go hard and cost you a fortune to repair.

You know that's a V6, a V8 Impala SS would be quite a bit faster.
But no offense, that is pretty slow. I think that the V6 Impala's are rated at around 230HP and they are only slightly faster than my 2002 I4(158HP) Camry which can hit 0-60 in just over 8 seconds.

Yeah, I've always loved the Impala SS... particularly the '96 model because that's the last RWD model they made.

I wouldn't mind having an SS. 0-60 in 5.6.......But that is pretty fast. But if i was given the option, i would take a G8 GT with the 6.0 over the SS Impala. So I see what you are saying. I drove a new malibu, and those drive a lot better than my Impala.

I know, I said 0-60 because who looks for 10-60. I wanted to see how fast my car was, and when you start at 10mph it really slows it down. From road tests i have seen, it can do 7.3 to 60, which is not that bad. I just did not want my tires to spin....:) I know, lame.

The difference is that the car is already in motion. I have an LT 3.5 and if I make a quick left turn and then accelerate into traffic, my car gets to 60 pretty fast too. It also helps if one doesn't floor the pedal.

actually, they are about the same. The 3.9 has a different intake manifold than the 3.5 to help with the lack of low end torque, but it lowers its top end. they are the same engine essentially. I have an LT 3.5 and i raced a 3.9 from a 20mph roll and won b/c after 5000rpm, i would start to pull away. but when we went from 0mph, he won b/c he could get off the line a little quicker.
