  • it's so hilarious when he has to page-turn... the g major chord comes one century later! but still, it's heinrich...

  • How wonderful to find this performance. Like yesterday I remember hearing them perform this in Amsterdam, around 1990. Do you know where this recording was made and the date?

  • I saw him perform this at the Sydney Opera House, and I'd say from th of the audience, it blew everyone's socks off. He was in a lather of sweat by the finish.

  • LOL 3:37

  • Beautiful, deep and expressive music, but the interpretation is too intellectual, therefore, too flat, too formal, one-dimensional. He doesn#t really know what he plays. The beginning is way too romantic. The pianist is very good, though. Listen to Natalia Gutman#s interpretation, if you find it - there is a whole universe

  • At this point of level just say you like ot or not.

Dont give advise to these kind of cellists...

  • yes, let me back this thought with the heart of every true musician I know

  • cannot find anything good in this music but it is well performed These two musicians are convincing.

  • @uhartchristian: it's beautiful

    you need to listen right

    this musik makes you think....

  • thinking is good but the heart and a real story is better.... well its my personal view, I have no universal right opinion.... yes it is beautiful because its well interpreted. and there are nice harmonies but.....

  • it's definetly no music to make you happy.

but i stll think that it gives you many other feelings...

but sure it's a question of personal taste

  • This is so beautiful. See you all at the Schnittke festival in London in November 2009!!!

  • Piano page turner... unknown. LMFAO.

  • Geez, that prolly makes the turner feel bad. Last time I went to a concert the page turner was mentioned in the program.

  • Paul Gulda, any relation to Friedrich?

  • His son;)

  • he makes everything looks so effortless

  • incredible execution! and probably gulda has a very good weed..

  • How?! How did he even conceive of making such scaring and daunting beauty??? :) I've must have watched this hundreds of times!!! ps. different style, but for those few who don't know about it, I''d also recommend Gubaidulina's viola concerto...

  • Pretty funny moment when the pianist has to wait for him to turn the page at the end of the video. That piece has some tricky page-turns. Great performance.

  • Maravillosa interpretación.

  • I love this sonata, I already listened to it when I was very young. Young children seem to like 'modern' music better than lots of adults...

  • beautifull and very deep music. and very good performed. thanks. :)

  • is this sonata nr. 1 or nr. 2

    ???

  • This is the Sonata No. 1

  • is this Gulda really son or granson? anyway nice to have Schnittke cello son here.

  • It's his son

  • thank you... incredible video

  • Very good rendition!! thank you.

  • Does anyone remember Gulda's father playing naked on Austrian TV?
