@animexmangafreak its not worth the sub fee, you'll go hours without seeing another player until one finally comes and ganks you, and it takes hours to find another player to gank. the fast decay rate on items is also fkn ridiculous, so u get about an hour into your player hunt only to have your weapon break miles from no where and there is alot of no where in this game. its a cluster fck of massive micro management and inventory system is archaic from the days of ultima online- bad
can please someone help me? i downloaded the free trial and every time i log in, its ok for a while, with 600-800 ping, and all of a sudden it goes up to 40k ping and then i cant preform any action and start lagging which gets me killed, then i get logged out becuse theres an error with the server, please help me if you know what to do, i really want to play this game

They should make this free to play, at least, for a while. Then as people start shuffling in maybe they'd have a chance to make it into something. I'd only do that after a huge update, though.

Great game but alot of those statements are misinterpreted if you played and your not bias about it. "Free to build cities", yes you are, but they are pre-designed by the devs and u simply just get resources for them. "Darkfall is 100% skill based" yea.. it sure is skill based, like you can have all skills when on launch there was supposed to be a skill decay system (you can be god now until 2.0). "10,000" simultaneous players" Yes this was amazing on launch, but now youll find 100-500 max

@metalcookie123 bro the game sux its like playing an offline game except you get ganked every 3 days and then when you level up it takes 3 days to find some noob to gank, theres no politics involved, its not as "hardcore" as they claim because the banks are universal. your not missing much and its pay to play against like 5 other players unless you already kno someone in a clan then maybe its fun idk it sux check out my vids on it..
@metalcookie123 The game is the best mmo I've ever played, and I've played them all. There's no cards have to pay online, but you can always try out the 14 day free trial.
@Massy012 This video was made four and a half years ago with released pre-alpha footage, photos and concept art so the video doesn't show off the game very well at all. It shows the concepts quite well but not the game. There's a free trial I think if you want to try it out for yourself.
@xKoruunx I played Darkfall for a year after it was released. I was an armourer so spent most of my time hitting ore nodes with a pickaxe, which doesn't make for an exciting video I'm afraid lol
@xKoruunx Several reasons. I don't like magic but you have to grind it up to be effective in 1 to 1 PvP (however, many of the spells are really fun!) Got fed up getting OMGWTFPWNED by massively overpowered "hardcore" (no-life) players (it's much more fun if the opponents are roughly the same). Needs more players, because playing in a group/clan makes the game really shine. DF suffers from the MMORPG curse - ie BIG timesink.

the great thing about this game is that you can just get on ventrilo with your clan and just fuck around. never experienced that with any other mmorpg.

This is what the game SHOULD be like. Unfortunately, AV have turned it into a quakefest where you have to spend months grinding magic(no other available playstyle) to be somewhat competitive.
@lordwouter7 Same here, except i've been doing it since launch. If you can kill a high level mage who knows what he's doing in a 1v1 situation, then you must be good. I know i always run into trouble unless my gearbag is super expensive (and even if it is, i tend to still have trouble).
@KashukoProductions no i finally got it to install- the direct to drive would not work but the torrent option eventually worked prior to downloading a torrent manager.it wouldnt work until i DL the torrent manager or I just clicked on "have windows check online for a program to open this file" which was a torrent manager, the game is pretty cool i played it for like 6 hours and was impressed tho not heavy population but then i never got ganked yet either, everything skills up even running
@larzakajugganot having played both this one feels way more epic and less juvenile, the fact you have to have an inkling of twitch skill, the hardcore death penalty (item loss), and the travel times weeds out alot of immature noobs that WoW is known for, WoW simply appeals to the masses especially people who have never played any video games before WoW.

I'm going to try this game out. I've always been a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games, and it looks a bit like them but an MMO. I'm a little skeptical about the looting though. The fact that you can loot people's gear and everything, i mean is that easy in the game to get good or decent get to fight in pvp?
@aranax69 The game is hardly dead. its starting hype was just huge is all. makes it seem like alot of ppl have quit. Splitting the player base sucks but it had to be done. Competitive gaming requires some things to be equal or at least as close as they can get it. One of those things is ping. its lame that some fights come down to that but while playing on the EU server im sure i lost alot of fights because of lag. Darkfall is alot like FPS's in this respect. 60ms vs 130ms

Love this Vid, I've seen it a dozen times at least and still is by far my favourite video about Darkfall. It gets me so pumped about the potential of the game. I hope AV can realize some of that potential finally with the next expansion they are working on, the core of the game is great but it is lacking in good sandbox features right now which is hurting the game, that and the grind to be viable is tough for new players to reasonably do legit.
There's a free 14-day trial. Hadn't played since beta, but the game is really presentable now. All the base mechanics are functional, and a good amount of content has been added. Really enjoying it, gonna resub.
Meh this game is better off without fantasy BS. Then again, what MMORPG is historically accurate anyways? There will always be garbage magics from Harry Potter world and what not.
A nice game overall,really,really interesting and different..But the grind is too much for a guy with an actual life,as a man below said.Played for a month but i quit because of that.The main problem is that you cant be competitive at many things with low stats.Perhaps i would continue if the way the stats where raising became more difficult after a while so i knew i would be able to catch up somehow.

CAUTION: If you play this game it will ruin all other MMORPGs for you, basically nothing compares to Darkfall and the fact that you can do whatever you want.
If there was a skill cap this game wouldn't have been awful. Well actually that's a understatement. But the skill cap was the main problem when I played at release. I like the class system, with the ability to be what ever you want. However, with no skill cap there are no unique classes, everybody just grinds the most powerful weapon combinations. No purpose for light gear, or anything short of a polearm. If there was a skill cap. New players can never catch up, it promotes macro'ing of skills
Aaahhhh... Yup. An epic trailer for an epic game. I've gotta agree with you, i also play at EU1 though, and the worst thing is the lags. They're fixing them of course, but anyways. Best mmorpg ever made.
@jimmydoonz I want to join too, played the trial found a nice clan. The grind is crazy, not the skill grind, but the stat grind. It will take months of 30hr+ weeks of play to be competitive in stats. Or years if you have a job, girlfriend and responsibilities outside your parents spare room. I just can't pay to be fodder for 1.5 years, not at DF prices. Especially when games like Battlefield 3 are coming out that provide excellent online large scale fun with progression & no reoccurring fees.

@Kreatonius Yes. BANK OFTEN is the main one and only equip yourself with things you can afford to lose. If you're going to cut wood or mine then do it naked, not in armour. Get the Mana to Stamina spell and watch your stamina like a hawk. No stamina = as good as dead. Lastly, have fun and accept that in DF everyone dies a lot.

I can't take this game for more than a few weeks at a time, but I'm glad I bought it. The PvP is not as unpleasant as it may sound, because losing your items isn't usually a big deal. Unlike many full-loot games you can just lick your wounds and go right back to playing. For me though the game is too consistent in pacing and atmosphere, which combined with all the progress track makes it dangerously hypnotic. It is a perfect "home away from home" second MMO.
It looks like Oblivion just in mmo-style and with a lot more features.I won't try the trial because there will be a ton of restrictions and i really don't like trying SOME of it's features,so i will buy it an d check it out :)!!!!! I hope it gets me addicted for this summer :)
@DavidTheCatholic Yes, there is a 2 week free trial on their website. There's even newbie invulnerability now, so new players need not fear taking the plunge.
@0muffins0 - I take that Mortal trailer to be a direct reference to Darkfall, maybe even a disparaging one since the Darkfall one was floating around for years and years without the game being released. I seem to recall Dark & Light also having a similar trailer, but that could be my imagination.
the game is really like that, some of its off, but trust me, if you take the time to get good, its fun, i help run one of the better clans on server, we own 2 cities and a hamlet, soon to be 2 hamlets, and we have like 8 ships, pretty fun, NA1 server
Becoming a pirate, buying a ship, building a house on some distant island, getting famous, recruiting others, building a Pirate port and eventually getting the biggest Pirate Armada the world has ever seen...

@aranax69 The game is hardly dead. its starting hype was just huge is all. makes it seem like alot of ppl have quit. Splitting the player base sucks but it had to be done. Competitive gaming requires some things to be equal or at least as close as they can get it. One of those things is ping. its lame that some fights come down to that but while playing on the EU server im sure i lost alot of fights because of lag. Darkfall is alot like FPS's in this respect. 60ms vs 130ms

Love this Vid, I've seen it a dozen times at least and still is by far my favourite video about Darkfall. It gets me so pumped about the potential of the game. I hope AV can realize some of that potential finally with the next expansion they are working on, the core of the game is great but it is lacking in good sandbox features right now which is hurting the game, that and the grind to be viable is tough for new players to reasonably do legit.

There's a free 14-day trial. Hadn't played since beta, but the game is really presentable now. All the base mechanics are functional, and a good amount of content has been added. Really enjoying it, gonna resub.

Meh this game is better off without fantasy BS. Then again, what MMORPG is historically accurate anyways? There will always be garbage magics from Harry Potter world and what not.

A nice game overall,really,really interesting and different..But the grind is too much for a guy with an actual life,as a man below said.Played for a month but i quit because of that.The main problem is that you cant be competitive at many things with low stats.Perhaps i would continue if the way the stats where raising became more difficult after a while so i knew i would be able to catch up somehow.

Hey Muffin, what do you think of the Darkfall community? Am i the only one who finds it totally unrecognizable since closed beta was announced? Where are all the big names of the good old forumfall, now taken over by new players who advocate a different game from what we all awaited for.
In other words, how did i go from a 07 newb to an 07 vet in a matter of weeks?

If there was a skill cap this game wouldn't have been awful. Well actually that's a understatement. But the skill cap was the main problem when I played at release. I like the class system, with the ability to be what ever you want. However, with no skill cap there are no unique classes, everybody just grinds the most powerful weapon combinations. No purpose for light gear, or anything short of a polearm. If there was a skill cap. New players can never catch up, it promotes macro'ing of skills

@jimmydoonz I want to join too, played the trial found a nice clan. The grind is crazy, not the skill grind, but the stat grind. It will take months of 30hr+ weeks of play to be competitive in stats. Or years if you have a job, girlfriend and responsibilities outside your parents spare room. I just can't pay to be fodder for 1.5 years, not at DF prices. Especially when games like Battlefield 3 are coming out that provide excellent online large scale fun with progression & no reoccurring fees.

@Kreatonius Yes. BANK OFTEN is the main one and only equip yourself with things you can afford to lose. If you're going to cut wood or mine then do it naked, not in armour. Get the Mana to Stamina spell and watch your stamina like a hawk. No stamina = as good as dead. Lastly, have fun and accept that in DF everyone dies a lot.

I can't take this game for more than a few weeks at a time, but I'm glad I bought it. The PvP is not as unpleasant as it may sound, because losing your items isn't usually a big deal. Unlike many full-loot games you can just lick your wounds and go right back to playing. For me though the game is too consistent in pacing and atmosphere, which combined with all the progress track makes it dangerously hypnotic. It is a perfect "home away from home" second MMO.

It looks like Oblivion just in mmo-style and with a lot more features.I won't try the trial because there will be a ton of restrictions and i really don't like trying SOME of it's features,so i will buy it an d check it out :)!!!!! I hope it gets me addicted for this summer :)

@0muffins0 - I take that Mortal trailer to be a direct reference to Darkfall, maybe even a disparaging one since the Darkfall one was floating around for years and years without the game being released. I seem to recall Dark & Light also having a similar trailer, but that could be my imagination.

the game is really like that, some of its off, but trust me, if you take the time to get good, its fun, i help run one of the better clans on server, we own 2 cities and a hamlet, soon to be 2 hamlets, and we have like 8 ships, pretty fun, NA1 server
