Turn up the gain, use the neck pickup, and move the whole shape down one fret(needs to be tuned 1/2 step down but moving it down is the same thing.

I've had that same guitar for about a yr. & 1/2 and like it. It's my first guitar and im learning on it. No problems with it at all but if i had to do it over again I would definitely start out with a LP-100. It's only $100 (?) more than the Special ll.

I think by heavy you meen distortion. Im guessing your quite new to the guitar? but if you want a nice heavy sound I surggest buying a overdrive pedal or a new amp wich has all the effects built in.

Let me guess... You got the package with the amp right??? As typhoonwill said get a pedal or a new amp. I was using a lousy Fender $50 amp for a while, and recently got a VOX VT 15, and it makes a world of difference. The cheap amps in those packs usually don't have enough distortion (gain) to give a heavy sound.

This definitely isn't a les paul standard, but it's still a great guitar. I've been playing for 17 years and have played a lot of equipment, and I just bought this. This is a really good guitar for a lot of styles. I threw on some 12s, adjusted the pickup height, and this thing gets sweet tone stock and is very fast. I might change out the pickups eventually for emg81s, and maybe throw on some locking tuners. I paid $140 for mine new.
