  • Thank you for posting this!!

  • I've seen 70's fans saying that 90125 and Big Generator aren't YES albums, but Trevor Rabin's backed by Yes. Now we have people also saying that Open Your Eyes is not Yes. Rubbish... no matter that a couple of tracks (including open your eyes) appear on Conspiracy 1st album. POP? So what? Still this album have great songs. Considering all albums from 90125 up to this day, this is just as good as 90125. To me is just inferior to UNION or BIG GENERATOR.

  • The title track of the worst (non-Rabin-era) Yes album. No shock that they never play anything from this era/album any more. Pop-by-numbers.

  • Very pop rock, not really Yes, word is that the songs were intended for a Squire/Sherwood project and at the last minute Andeson and Howe came in at the record company's suggestion, hence the very un Yes like music, The Ladder is a much better album which showed that Yes were capable of making good, but not great albums in the modern era.

  • I love Open Your Eyes: the song and the album. Billy Sherwood did for Yes in the mid to late 90s what Trevor Rabin did for Yes in the 80s. Thank you, Billy!

  • This is a really good song in the context of the crap that was out at the time...remember, thei WAS gonna be a CONSPIRACY song. Shame IGOR had to blow his chances

  • This is a really good song in the context of the crap that was out at the time...remember, thei WAS gonna be a CONSPIRACY song.

  • the studio track awesome-- the whole cd-especial universal garden,,,,,,,their harmonies here were clashing,,,

  • I agree with some other comments. This is barely Yes. A good performance but it is missing key elements.

  • I think the main ingredient of the entire album is the lyrics. Coming from a spiritual place of understanding that the entire human race in is in an EGO dreamstate and does not realize that the problem is that we have separated ourselves from our Creator. Once this error is corrected we will be in a state of Paradise. Jon has conveyed this message throughout 99% of all songs since "Time and A Word". I think it all climaxed in the album Magnification. Check out the book "A Course in Miracles"

  • reminder to self: consciousness now. This live version pales with the recorded version.

  • I can see some of the elements that made Yes so good in the 70s (Howe's guitar playing, for example), but there's too much mediocrity here to be truly happy with this.

    Not good.

  • I'm not one for trying to define what a "real" fan is for other people. That's for others to decide for themselves and to understand without negative feelings that there are other opinions out there. I like most everything the Yes has done (yeah, there are a few exceptions...but it has nothing to do with who is there making the music). Nothing has to be perfect for it to be awesome. People have left (and returned) to this band because they know they are free. Not because they got pissy.

  • @schmittelt If they claim they we're pissy (or whatever), those are just the words they spoke at that moment in time. Things change. Personally, I expect them to. Whatever Yes does in the future (yeah, it's still "Yes"), it will be good. No matter who is there doing it at the time. Fell free to disagree with everything I just wrote. I still love you.

  • much geysing

  • "open your eyes" segun la misma banda, fue un disco que salió un poco "apurado" por la disquera (tommy boy). ellos no quedaron muy conformes con el resultado y, por lo mismo no tocaron mas de una o dos canciones en ese tour..

  • This album, and Billy Sherwood's contribution, helped save YES. Face it, he was a crucial element in the 90's. So, thanks Billy!

  • One of the most beautiful songs of this Yes period!

  • What a shame they ended up doing this album. And all because Wakeman left them shortly before they made it.

It's amazing how little it takes for YES members to get all pissy and leave the band for the silliest reasons.

  • @PhilistineTheArtLuvr It's a shame that it lead to a huge world tour and survival for YES... I apologies for that.

  • @BillySherwoodHQ don't listen to the assholes billy you rock in yes circa and yoso :D

  • @BillySherwoodHQ yeah this album is criminally underated i happen to think it stands up with the likes of big generator and talk, great job billy! Keep rockin with circa!

  • A little fast. No?

  • It's great song, but someone is singing off key and it spoils it...I suspect the keyboard player, much as it pains me to point the finger at a fellow ivory-tinkler!

  • This was really an awesome tour with good setlists and lots of great performances. The Open Your Eyes album is a total piece of crap though - one of their worst ever. But it has 2 or 3 good songs on it, the title track being one of them.

  • very funky

  • This song was a great treat on the Open Your Eyes tour-the only new song they did and a powerful one at that!

  • As far as I'm concerned this was an awful album, but this song is one of their best. This live version does not do it justice, it is pretty epic.

  • i agree with the other users Open your Eyes is a very unrated record from yes and i don't understand because they didn't like to play songs of this record

  • This is a great, oft forgotten Yes tune...

  • A band that actually sounded as good in concert as on their recordings.

  • I've never seen them attempt a more complex vocal arrangement on stage...obviously a daunting task at the mixing board

Open Your Eyes is one of my Favorite Yes albums of all time

  • This is a good studio album and Yes is an amazing studio band.

  • hahahah, and they're darn good live.

  • I like this song, but it's too pop-y, don't you think? Not a classical Yes song :)

And not the best for a concert either.

    On the album, sounds great

  • One of my favorite newer Yes songs! Great

energy... wish Billy S. could have done more

    with YES!

  • Steve's guitar parts are much different then the album version which provides a great change to the song. Igor backing vocals, also very interesting. On the CD version I always liked Chris & Billy's backing vocal harmonies. Nice version of a great song, off a great CD. I dont consider it the Drama of the 90's though. Two different lineups, and much different Yes music. All great!

  • Some of the vocals are on tape, unfortunately.

  • I agree

    you are right

is not so Stylized as be considered a new Drama, but it is an interesting combination, as listen Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin playing together in Shock to the System from the album Union

  • What´s the name of this record?

  • I don't know what CD the song originally aired on, but it's on "Topography: The Yes Anthology"

  • The forgotten Yes record. How unfortunate since it is such a fine Yes album; Sort of the "Drama" of the 90's.

  • I admit I was VERY closed minded about Open Your Eyes when it came out because I thought Yes had royally screwed Trevor Rabin and forced him and Tony Kaye out for Steve and Rick, and then (surprise!surprise) Rick bailed. It was not till The Ladder that I learned what a great musical craftsman Billy Sherwood is, and I absolutely *love* the CIRCA: material. Now looking back on the OYE material I see I missed out, AND the band really screwed him and Igor, too, just like they screwed Trevor & Tony.

  • I didn't like this CD at first because it wasn't the direction I was expecting them to go. But then again, then never done what I expected them to. It's one of the many things I like about Yes. OYE has grown on me and, perhaps with the exception of Man On The Moon, I am fond of it. This is a great cut. Also the cut where Jon reprises the tune from Animation. Can't recall the name.

  • It took a long time for this CD to grow on me, too, for much the same reasons. I hate that Billy here got marginalized on his own song. He and Alan and Tony are doing CIRCA: now, have you heard them? They are really great.

  • Yeah. I friended their myspace. They're OK. It's like that Conspiracy project they did with Chris... I think it was Chris and Billy anyway.

  • I have a bootleg of the December 1997 show at San Diego. It's called Surroundabout, but I think there are other bootlegs for the show, like The Revealing science of San Diego. Part of the show ended up being released on a bonus disc of Magnification.

  • Thanks for posting! I really like the Open Your Eyes lp. Billy did an awesome job of mixing this album. The mix on this live show isn't that great though.

  • woah... there not holding a very good tune here, I've never heard any of OYE and it doesn't look like I'm going to.

  • ^^:

  • This was a real under-rated song. One of the better ones they had done for a long time up to that point. It'd be nice to hear it again sometime though I doubt it.

  • Great!!!

  • Massa!!!!

  • I saw Yes on six different tours and OYE was my favorite. They were rock-solid and the sound was excellent.

  • The lyrics are very Billy.

  • Billy rocks!!!! (of course Yes too !! all members past to present)

Billy has a new band name CIRCA: great band!

  • I have their CD, it kicks ass.

  • yes..it is a great cd..you should by the new work of Billy with Jim Ladd called: Alone out there..it is very good..it is a conceptual album..very existencial I might add.

  • I think the sync is perfect here! I will just make a playlist for this great show!.....Although each year in the late 90's and on Steve just doesn't look as happy as he was in 91 and earlier.

  • I think part of the reason why Steve looks glum is that he seems to be ageing faster than the rest of the group, compared with Jon who looks ageless with every concert (or he has a really good plastic surgeon).

Great concert but my favourite has to be Magnification 2001, containing all of Yes's long numbers and that fantastic orchestra.
