Sad VW Vanagon Traveling Commercial

My first car was a 1983 Vanagon Diesel. I loved that car.

This is an 83 it originally had a diesel engine it now runs with the power of a 91 VW Golf Digifant engine I own this very Westy it is still going strong.

It makes me miss my old busses: 67 Westie, 70 Surf-Mo-Bus, and a 72 Thunder Bus (with a Porsche 911 motor, which would never pass smog). Something so wonderful about a car which is so cumbersome, underpowered, and guilts you into working on it.

It's either an 83.5 or 84 Vanagon Westfalia. Air cooled were from 80-83 and are identified by only one grill, between the headlights. The rear hatch has no "DIESEL" badge and by it's sound it's definitely a wasserboxer. That means 83.5-91. Round headlights narrow it down to 83.5-85. 85-91 had a smaller sliding door handle, which narrows it down to either a mid-year 83 model, or an 84.

Looks like water-cooled, it has the lower grill.

Air cooled 80-82 do not, except the rare diesel model in 82.

I think I missed something, why is this a sad traveling commercial? Westy's are the best. It appears that is an air cooled model. Is that an 80-82? Liked the video.
