That fact is the walls were made to stop rocket launchers and snipers from firing onto roads. That actually used to be a big problem for Israel. It also prevents smuggling of weapons. The walls do not strangle the communities in any way. Roads are still open leading into them. I've been been. I have friends that used to know people that got killed by a rocket that was smuggled in.
