This makes good sense to me. Will Brink and people like that talk about 'time under tension'. Maintaining resistance at peak contraction seems like the same message. Effectively, you're keeping the muscle under stress for longer, and not losing the hypertrophy effect within sets. You can achieve the same effect on biceps by not bending your arms up too far each rep, and keeping the stress on the arm that way....great vid.
hey mark can i do these too as well as follow your book with the whole workout routine? I'm asking this because I'm 15, 129 pounds and 5'3''. I want to keep growning and grow so much taller and get bigger and wider and gain muscle mass because i need it in the future?
Hi Mark, Ive been training for 8 weeks and the results are insane! but my muscles feel like their bruised all the time, their not sore until you massage them and then they feel bruised 24/7. What's wrong? I train with low volume high intensity 5-7 sets for larger bodyparts and 2-3 sets for smaller bodyparts once a week. thanks bro.
@klarkratu r u on any kind of medication? Taking accutane for example can increase muscle soreness after workouts, because after 8 weeks of training you shouldn't be getting that sore.
@MatthewJamesStanton Hi there, thanks for your reply, yes I am on blood pressure medications I will make an appointment with my doctor to see what the problem is. Thank you so much for your comment it was very helpful.
Do you huff and puff like that during every exercise? ^^
I'm pretty new to working and today while doing some pseudo-planche pushups I realized I hold my breath a lot while I'm working out. Do you think the fast breathing helps u get more oxygen and then more reps etc.?
Breathing is definitely a must when training. Everyone's breathing patterns are different but you should not hold you're breath because you will deprive you're muscles of oxygen( which produces energy). You're muscles will fatigue quicker meaning you don't get the number of reps you should be getting.
Yeah a good varation. Better yet is skip the preacher pad, if you have any cable machine that comes with a bench or you can slide a bench in position, set to decline or flat if yours doesn't do decline, set so you have to stretch to reach the grips while lying down, then pull down keeping upper arms stiff, you'll get a great burn in not only biceps as you curl but forearms too. I'm up to where I can do 3 sets 15 reps 140 pounds.
Hmm. I have access to a cable machine, but it's a BOWFLEX. Not sure that would work as I'm sure the tension created by the bars varies depending on how far they're bent.
I'm not sure since I've never used a Bowflex. Perform a few reps and see if there is good pulling resistance at the peak contraction point, that's very important.
That's pretty amazing! You have great biceps, and an lots of motivation. Love your workout space. Am myself a big fan of preacher curls, though will include Cable Preacher Curls from now on in my routine. Great clip!! And thanks for the upload.
