stanwyck reportedly said at the time: "I don't have much integrity left, but I wouldn't have ANY if I did another year on this show". stanwyck passed away in 1990, 4 years later.
Fascinating clip! Love or hate the late Barbara Stanwcyk, one has to admire her amazing work ethic...performing until almost the very end of her life. One classy, talented & charismatic lady! THANKS for posting this intriguing footage! :-)
I don't like how they tried to make Sable the Alexis of the series and the legendary Barbara Stanwyck the Kryste or whatever. She should have been telling Sable off
@bacrane Amen....bacrane, you said a mouthful here.....so very true.....the "Colbys" were nothing without Stanwyck on screen......I don't blame her for leaving after the first year with the piss-poor scripts she was given....she was saying the same lines week after week...I would have taken my million and walked too....!!!!!!!
Michael-you're nuts. Heston was a complete professional and whatever gossip you read you have no idea about. BS loved him greatly and he was the only joy about doing the show for her

Stanwyck was probably a bad lezzie (google the name "Frank Worthen") in real life! There is a great new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: Revised Edition) for sale at amazon!
"Oh very good. The old wheels are still turning. Very slowly, but they are still turning." Classic Sable. LOL! She was just as vicious as Alexis ever was. Love it! And Connie reminded me so much of the good-natured, elegant Krystal. I guess that was the writers' point. Good vs. constant Evil.
Hmmm, I think the Alexis-Krystle comparison in The Colbys is more fitting for Sable-Frankie, with a few twists. Like Alexis, Sable was the schemer, but like Krystle, she was vulnerable and feared losing her husband. Frankie was just as goodie-two-shoed as Krystle, but like Alexis, she kept her eyes on the prize. By contrast, Connie was like Dominique, only smarter, edgier, and more involved in the story. She was the foil to Sable's cunning in a similar way that Dominique was to Alexis.
@nosuchpersonvideo You're right, Sable & Frankie were each combinations of the different qualities of Alexis & Krystle, only I think Sable got the better qualities of both characters, which is why people love her so much more than Frankie. I think they should've just added the Colby characters to Dynasty instead of giving them a show of their own (Sable, Constance, Miles & Monica were good additives, but I wouldn't keep Jason or Frankie for long, they were bleah).
I remember reading that Charlton Heston drove Stanwyck crazy with his on-set attitude. According to her he marched about as if it was his show. Pointless really since Stephanie Beacham walked away with it...
Here Here, Stephanie Beacham got all the attention on this show that I do remember! I also thought this show is not gonna stand a chance. The storylines were horrible and so pointless. It was just alot of distinguised actors trying to make a go of a show that was poorly written and thought out!
I agree - BS AND SB were the only good things about the Colbys. I don't blame BS for leaving at the end of the first season. Sad that Connie was killed in a plane explosion later in Season 02.
Look the colbys was amazing great over the top sets sable and conny falon jeff all superb i have the full show on dvd and its superb...if you can track it down...
They wasted her talents on silly storylines. she was the head of the family so we should have seen her at the office running the Colby empire at least.
Hello, does anyone know if Barbra Stanwyck & Linda Evans characters cross paths in this show?

I don't think Barbara Stanwyck was the Krystle. I think it was Katharine Ross (Sable's sister) that was the Krystle Carrington of the Colbys.

@Roachenator yes, by Stephanie Beacham, not Barbra Stanwyck

Yes, her leaving was the beginning of the end. Constance was a force to be reckoned with. Oddly, Sable seemed very sad when Constance was killed.

I love how husky her voice got as she aged. Its great to se her here at 80ish, and she still the same old "Sassy" Stanwyck.

BS leaving is what caused the show to decline in my opinion. It was the scenes between these two that kept the show interesting.3
