There was so much tension between the actress who played Prue (Shannon Doherty) and the actress who played Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) that the show had to choose between keeping one over the other and in the end Alyssa Milano won out and the writers killed off Shannon Doherty's character (Prue). The whole show changed...but it was still really good. It lasted like what...5 more seasons after that.

Honestly, Prue was my favorite, and I didn't really watch Charmed as much as I had when she was around. I didn't like Paige much. Though in the Charmed comics, there's been hinting that Prue will come back. Apparently she was one of the most powerful witches in existence.
