  • THANK YOU!

  • I love this song. Can't wait 'til Friday! That's when I'm going out on a long ride again with the truck. Too bad I gotta drive the short routes during the first half of the week... :/

  • my dad was a trucker as is alot of friends of mine, good hearted people no matter what the news and four wheelerssay

  • alot of the truckdrivers ive gotten to know are the most curtieous drivers on the road and even when there gone i guess that doesnt change

  • i was driving down the road listing to Phantom 309 and up the road came a bunch of tenagers roaring up the road listing to justin bieber baby and i was thinking to myself lord what has music become?

  • man i remember listening to this song every time i got ready for bed haha when ever i was down in the dumps i would listen to this song and it would cheer me right up. even though it is old it's still one of my faves ^_^ even if i'm 18 i like nothing better then old music ^_^ expesialy Red Sovine and SGT Berry Sadler ^_^

  • Thanks for downloading such a great song - I really enjoy this one!

  • Love this song. My Dad used to take me on some of his short haul trips when school was out.

    Thanks for uploading!

  • do like the old bangers...would like to see them soon...where are they?

  • tell them large marge sent ya. it will get real dam quiet.

  • If you haven't been a trucker, then you can't appreciate this song. We were the kings of the road. Too bad that isn't true today. We were courteous, kind and looked out for the 4-wheelers. Not so today.

  • @zfleming44 now 4wheelers blame truckers for wrecks. my dad is a trucker and im gonna be one, someday soon.

  • My father showed me this song, he is a truck... Personally it gave me a chill down my back, but good song

  • @mikala15555

my dad is too i miss him alot be cause he s on the road alot.

  • Hats off to ALL truckers...without them, this country would come to a screeching halt.

  • to the people ranting about truck drivers.before you run your mouth to much try crawling your ass in one for a couple of years.hell you dont even have to drive just go for a long ride and see how things really work out here

  • Awesome song I have it on my driving mix and an original vinyl copy.

    @ the other posters

I think steering wheel holder is the right term for many (not all but most) of the so-called professional drivers on the roads today. Now before someone starts beaking off about me knowing nothing. I've been in the industry for 15 years and I've seen it decline at an ever increasing rate. It's nuts especially in this day we need to stick together. Look at Alex Fraser jumped by a bunch of thugs.

  • i still have the vinyl of this song i love it and its a good song and its a true song and story.

  • I always cry when I.hear this song. I can only hope to be as selfless as him

  • i am a firefighter, last year there was a truck driver who swerved off the high way to avoid plowing a load of cars at a stop light, he lost his life

  • this is my first time listening to this song ever and i absolutely love it

  • tell you guys another good red sovine song. little joe its about a dog

  • I was a dispatcher for Time DC and Riss International for about 4 years.. did a lot of trip leases too. We had 11 trucks of our own (company's). I loved it.. put a lot of trucks under a lot of loads. Still love to here the truckers jargon.. Well, we're going to back on out of here. To you truckers, keep the shiney side up and the rubber side down..going 10-10. And thanks for the memories! . Bye!

  • this is a damn good song

  • Wonderful. The Tom Waits cover is almost transformational.

  • this song gives me butterflys just listening to it.

  • Today its a little different you can be parked at truck stop fueled before you go to bed find your self with empty tanks in the morning. I speak from experience, Flying j Saint George Utah 2008

  • my friend jackson cash. swares to god that this guy (big joe) saved his life. in wyoming. he wrote a song about it. and.. this is creepy. he has flash backs and stuff. and he like... wow.. this is SO weird. he didn't even know about this song.. i told him about it and he listened to it. and about started crying

  • Great song!

  • problem is most of todays steering wheel holders wouldnt give the time of day to anyone much less swerve to avoid hitting a bus full of kids.

  • mike198748 . . . You need to rethink what you just said . . . if you don't know a trucker you have no right to talk about any of them!! My love is a trucker that would give his shirt off his back if someone needed it. Most truckers are the best people in this crazy world today! Thank that Lord for them or you wouldn't have anything to eat, wear, etc.!!!!

  • if i new a trucker?? i know plenty of them as i have been one for 21 years, so i know what i am talking about,,your right some wuld, but most of them now a days could care less about but theirselves, back in theday if you were broke down along the highway there would be several drivers pulling over to help out now a days your own company drivers wont even look at you, so i have a pretty good perspective of the industry

  • But any trucker without a death wish would swerve to miss a bus load of kids.

  • @mike198748 yes sir. i drove for a little awhile and got out, b/c of other drivers. hell i would go to use the bathroom while i was filling up my truck and come out and have other drivers cussing me out, bc he had to wait. the prob is the big companies are hiring whoever they can get, and dont care about criminal records. as long as you can pass your cdl thats all they care about.

  • @mike198748 Mike I have been a trucker now for 12 years. I can understand what you are saying. I have been an owner operator for 8 years now for the same company. I like everyone else have broke down and my fellow company drivers would not stop. I learned from my dad that drove for 48 years, along with allot of friends and family, that in the future when on the road you can only depend on one person. I like to think I learned from some of the best, If not one of the best. Stay same driver.

  • @bulldog0046 i owned 4 trucks, so iunderstand what your saying, i have been at this for about 22 yeas

  • @nanababies8 your preaching to the quoir,, i have been driving for 24 years,,, and i have given the shirt off my back,,,, know your facts before you comment

  • @nanababies8 AMEN!!!!!

  • @nanababies8 I agree with you, because I know my dad has been driving them for 20 yrs. Thank god for truck drivers and may God protect keep them all safe.

  • @mike198748 that is a bunch of bull...... i know plenty of truckers an my fiance is a trucker so idk the truckers u do and i KNOW I DONT WANNA KNOW THEM,........ 99% OF THE TRUCKERS OUT THERE GIVE U THE SHIRT OF THEIR BACK..... NOTICE I SAID"TRUCKERS" NOT STEERING WHEEL HOLDERS...... DRIVING A TRUCK IS A WAY OF LIFE NOT A JOB.....

  • @bjroark2011 your right it is a way of life,,, a way of life i have lived for the last 24 years and beyond,,, i was raised around the industry and live and work in it,,,, the man who took me under his wing when i started was old school,, back when twin sticks were common place,do you know that frase?? for that matter know how to shift them? either way i have lived trucking my whole life, so tell it to someone who doesnt know any better,

  • @bjroark2011 Are you ever right, truckers are a great bunch.

  • Spooky! The poor hitchhiker doesn't realize until after he gets out of the truck that he just accepted a ride from a GHOST...PHANTOM 309!!!...

  • I used to hear this on WBT in Charlotte, NC every night. They played rock till midnight when a DJ, I think his first name was Larry came on. Can't remember his last name. But he did the voice of his parterner, Monroe Slump who was supposedly the janitor of the station. Anyway this was on his playlist along with Teddy Bear.

  • This song could happen to any of us drivers at anytime i thank the good lord that it has not happen to me but i wouldn't have any other profession but driving

  • this iss my favourite song

  • this song is in its own way scary once you understand what its about

  • one of my faves. just a rememberable song IT IS AN EPIC STORY!!!!

  • Thats a old but good song!

  • i first heard this when i was about 7 years old visiting my aunt. im 36 now. my older cousin was playing it. we left for home a few days later and i havent heard it since. mostly because i never knew who did it. im still not sure why a seven year old would remember it. this brings back so many memories. one of the most haunting songs ever written. still gives me chills after all these years...
