Also, Kabbalah isn't about "reading letters on paper", it's about direct mystical experience. The Zohar and other texts are just there to "strike a spark", so to speak. On top of that, Kabbalah says that each human has a spark of God's essence, so we are essentially exploring ourselves as much as God. Carl Jung considered it a precursor to psychology, and in a way it is.

Originally, Kaballists meditated on the visions of Ezekiel, which is a worthy practice in my opinion. Mix that with a good, pure, righteous heart and you can see the Lord.
