  • Lol. I'd always thought he and Mcgonagall would hook up.

  • It seemed perfectly plausible to me that he was gay when I first heard. But if Dumbledore doesn't seem like the gay "type" to you, then good on JK Rowling for not encouraging narrow-minded stereotypes.

  • Sacrates... gay... Leonardo Da Vanci... gay... Micheal Angelo gay... all bearded men... all geniuses... all wise men... seems to make sense to me. I think the way we percieve gay men today is very jaded... but its no one's fault really. Societal manipulation.

  • DX Your a teacher?? & 31?? You look so youngO_O

  • Yes ... and yes.

  • Of course Dumbledore was gay!! It defnitely makes sense. In some ways he was even a bit of a gay stereotype. More so in his representation in the films than the books. Anyway, fuck all that, this girl in the video has the look of Hermione Granger to me!! Anyone agree??

  • If you think about it though, Rowling doesn't really answer the question. How does "He's gay" say anything about whether he finds love or not? Gays can have relationships or be single. It's like if she were asked, "When are you going to write another book?" And she replies with a "Yes."

  • seriously, i don't get what the big deal is.

To me, it just makes a whole lot more sense.

And I am completly surprised about some people's reactions to this. Big deal, he likes men!

  • i lost all respect for the character when i heard.

    such a powerful man

    now a old sissy

  • Maybe that's why he is so open to all different unique types of people. Anyways, funny vid, made me chuckle :p

  • Yay! I'm glad you liked it. It was meant to make people laugh (and not get all cranky. Cranky people scare me!)

  • hmmmm...yea it is quite a shocker. I mea lockhart wouldn't be so much of a shocker (especially now that he is crazy), but hey that's life! :) Nice video still

  • Oh please, i knew Dumbledore was gay but i don't care.

  • haha sure you did.

  • i dont understand what is so hard to understand. he's gay. he was in love with a man. get over it.

  • where did you hear he was gay?? lol doesnt surprise me much though. there never was a mention of a woman in his life. and you realise you said it.... 5 times lol.

Abaforth has a special relationship with goats lmao!!!!!!

  • I heard it from JK Rowling's mouth. Wow, you missed out on that? It was all over the media.

  • I dont pay much attention to the media, I was probobly rereading hte books or hte 5th time XD

  • Does it really matter!??!

    I love him anyway!

  • If you ask me, it doesn't matter whether it matters or not. This isn't a moral issue -- but it was quite shocking.

  • Ron liked Fleur and was affected by veelas so he couldn't be gay. Lockhart I could definitely see though. Oh how the fan girls would scream. (giggles at the thought) So, yeah, I think its cool that he's gay.

  • What a family, the Dumbledores.

Albus was gay, Aberforth had "special relations" with goats, and the daughter kind of went crazy. I totally didn't see Dumbledore as being gay either. But, he's J.K.'s character, and what she says goes.

  • Lol, come on, like u never suspected!! =P

  • Creative user name... :)

  • Well Dumbledore sometimes seemed gay.

why do you think he was so nice to harry

besides all the truthful reasons lol

    Dumbledore and Grindelwald

    lol

    o.O

  • I thought it was pretty awesome that Dumbledore was gay. I mean, I hate most people's reactions (not yours, understandable), because they say JKR was wrong about HER character, or that gay people are wrong. I love gay people (though I'm straight) and Harry Potter, so this whole thing about a character that never fit the stereotype being gay was amazing. The weird part was I kinda got that feeling that fans would at least make it seem like he was gay during DH...

  • Fans would make it seem like he was gay during DH? .... what part do you mean?

  • Well, the entire Grindelwald thing. I thought they'd understand, that it would be a lightbulb moment. They were owling at night and constantly around each other. Sure, it could have been a strong friendship. Or it could have been love.

  • I dare you to attempt to prove it. :P

  • NOT TRUE!!! Harry is the gay one :) lol I know hes actually gay.

  • Most people don't even know that Dumbledore auditioned for the Village People back in the '70s. It's true! :P

  • lol....oh geeze :P

  • lol your shocked expression at 1:41 is funny.

I was a little confused too when I found out that Dumbledore was gay (n.o.) it's just I didn't expect him to be.

  • It's still shocking. :-|

  • ROFL

    XD

  • Well, he wanted a life time supply of socks. So I guess he's gay with a stash...:P I don't mind he's gay, in fact I thought it made perfect sense, THAT'S why him and Harry had PRIVATE lessons...he thought Snape was having all the fun...:D Ok maybe not, but it fun to pick on him. I practically pick on all the characters. Except Cho...she's hard...Sorry, well that's the way I look at the fact that he's gay. It just explaines alot to me.

  • Well here's an easy one: Cho's a Ho:)

  • Oooh good one. I never thought of that. Her dating Harry a year--not even a year after Cedric died. Hoeish!

  • I wish Ron was gay if he was I may have a new found interest in the books

  • What do you mean by 'gay-type'? Geez...

  • By 'gay-type', I mean someone who has the desire to have sex with someone of the same gender. Quite literal, really.

  • personally tho i think it is good that dumbledore is gay coz every1 else in harry potter is straight and in the real world not every1 is straight some people are gay

  • lol Dumbledores family is the best

some people are born gay as some straight, so i dont really understand the whole uproar of the thing. but anyway what a great family

  • His brother has an "interest" in goats, his sister died ... sounds... dysfunctional. LMAO ... but very unique, sure.

  • I Think its fabulous... Dumbledore and Gridiwald ;)

  • It's incredible, I'll give it that. Though, I still have a hard time imagining Dumbledore being gay. There were no clues in the book.... but JK is god of Harry Potter, so she can say whatever she wants. :P

  • Of course there are clues in the books! Tons of them! His fondness for knitting patterns, his love of chamber music ...you just have to know what to look for!

  • I had to give you a thumbs up, cause you just made me laugh ... lots. Oh geeze... lol

  • Even if it were a only a 'choice', a person could still have a phobia in regards to that 'choice'. It doesn't matter what it is - you can still be afraid of it. For example, the lack of proper spelling and grammar on your behalf frightened me so much I nearly deleted your comment. *wink*

  • People no more choose to be gay than they choose to be straight. I was born gay and I always will be. I don't often comment on Youtube but I just couldn't let this pass. Homophobia is real, my friend, just like arrogance, stupidity and bigotry.

  • no it is not, you choose to be gay, and we all agree it is a mental thing, so it is just like any other mental diorder, trust me take a good look inside your self and you will know it is true

  • It's no good arguing with someone like you. You're one of these contemptable little people who not only believe they are right, but believe that everyone else agrees with them. The slightest deviation from your own view of what is 'normal' and you step all over it. Now who does that remind me of ...hmm, it'll come to me ...1930's ...Germany ...strange little guy with a dodgy moustache ...

  • well, what should we do then, i rather be compared to Hitler than to be Gay. thank you for your quick response

  • You may have the last word on this, which in the grand scheme of things, is just a little argument on the comments board of a Youtube video, but the fact is society in general has become more accepting of gay people. I'm not about to let one person's opinion bother me, to be quite honest.

  • David, if he does bother you, I'll delete his comments. I almost did right away, because we don't need thoughtless remarks -- but I thought an interesting conversation might come out of it. If it gets out of hand, I'll ban him. We don't need "Haterz". :)

  • That's just the point I'm making. I'm not going to let him bother me. I know as well as anyone that there are narrow minded people out there, and unfortunately they've every right to their views, even if I think they're wrong. Besides, he doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would actually do anything about it. They're the dangerous ones.

  • lol great video! 5 stars!

I have ecxatly the same opnion you do!

    I mean... Dumbledore? Why? xD

I always had suspicious about Lockheart too, but, Dumbledore?

I made a video about it too, check it out if you want =)

ah, and I just can't stop thinking about it, you know... because, if J.K. hadn't said Dumbledore was gay, everything would be okay... Rowling should at least had written it in the book, don't you agree? =/

  • I'm okay with the fact that it wasn't written -- if she wants to add things, that's more exciting for me -- but it's just plain shocking to find out that Dumbledore is gay, so yeah, I mostly agree with you. I'll check out your video. :)

  • y does it matter if he was gay? ppl are now saying that it was obvious but they were not upset when the books came out. no one knew and people were happy with dumbledore until JK actually stated he was gay.

  • Well, I think the answer to your question "why does it matter" is that some people assumed that Dumbledore had no interest in romance/sex. We never read that in the books, so now it's shocking. That's my take, anyways.

  • it made me upset because Rowling should have written he was gay in the book!

she finished writing all of the books, and then, all of a sudden, she says "dumbledore is gay", this is shocking O.O

she shoul at least write it in the book

  • are you serious? dumbledore doesnt seem like he was gay? maybie you should read the books again........

  • This wasn't announced in the books LMAO -- read the news, ya silly goose.

  • Ron is too dorky to be gay

    and Lockhart too cocky

Albus loves Lemondrops and is free of prejudice of course he is more gay.

He is like all those gays you don't recognizein the street, one of my best friends realized I was gay after 4 months of knowing me. And I was 22 and out and proud at the time

  • Good perspectives. :)

  • dude just cause rowling says he is doesnt mean he is shes just trying to get publicity shell admit that he isnt soon enough

  • DD is not gay JK rowling is doing this for media attention

  • Someone asked about Dumbledore's love life, and she answered. I seriously doubt she wants more publicity. She doesn't need it!

  • she DOES need it because the books are all done she wants attention again she misses the spotlight because its all over except for the movies w..so she made this up to get back in the spotlight i agree

  • I admit that I don't know her mind (neither do you), so we really shouldn't assume we know what she was thinking. Though, the fact that she's already all over the news all the time anyways tells me that she wasn't hurting for publicity.

  • it is perfectly fine to disagree with j.k. i personally don't like this information because i liked pictureing him and minerva together. i think everybody else did too. I really hope they don't make him look like a complete flamming homosexual in the movies. not that there is anything politically wrong with that its just i hope he doesnt suddenly speak with a lisp and wear pink. that would just be stupid but seriously I see him as a father figure to harry, its a little harder to do that now.

  • the gay type lol. you could say he was the type that would be into his sister many genius' were into that too. just saying.

  • If the announcement was that he was 'into his sister' -- that still wouldn't fit the character of Dumbledore that I've come to know. I've always pictured him as having no sexual interest whatsoever -- hence the lack of family.

  • me too

  • gay type? this isn't 1972. silly girl. get over it. it makes no difference. its a good thing! a VERY good thing.

  • We're talking about a fictional character, and his love affair took place way before 1972.

Do speak respectfully - if you want to keep posting. I don't put up with insults. Thanks. :)

I noticed something. You say "it makes no difference". To me, that means, you don't care. Then, you say "it's a good thing", to me that means you do care, because it shows that we've evolved in a positive direction as a society. Oh wait. I said that in the film, didn't I? I'm betting you didn't catch that. LOL

  • No didn't catch that. I usually stop listening to a video when the opening line, the background music and the subject personally offends me.

  • Ha! You crack me up. Why bother watching in the first place? My guess is that you like to be offended.

  • hey man i reallllly dont wanna sound like a homophobe but the fact that rowling said dumbledore is gay is bad

it just is, i kinda dont no why but it is

  • he wears purple robes, not that that would indicate a gay trait lol! Anyways he's gay.... and so what!

  • Not the gay type? lol the guy has longer fingernails than me, and he wears a dress FFS!

  • Ha, love the Harry Potter scene it? game in the background. Dumbledore is gay, eh so what? Im indiffrent too it, he's still as cool as he ever was before I found out.

  • I love how people are saying that J.K. is standing up for gay rights, yet I read all 7 books and never thought about him being gay. If she really wanted to stand up for people why not actually do it, rather than wait until all of your books have been printed and sold.

  • The Only One He Ever Feared was is gay

  • He WAS gay, but not anymore, since he fell off the Astronomy Tower. *snickers* Poor Dumblie :(

  • It's meant to continue to upset the right wing conservative Christians. First he practices witchcraft, now he's gay, and he teeaches kids. :)

  • Come on! Dumbledore is a big Mary! He wears long flowing purple robes! COME ON!

  • i kinda reacted the same way, don't hate her, it was just a huge surprise. i don't mind him being gay, just a huge PLOT TWIIIIST! (which she didn't include in the books 4 some fckn reason

  • i reacted the same way.

  • Wait...you said your head was exploding

    because Dumbledore's gay!

    Well? We're waaaaaaaaaaiting...

  • it must have happend after she finished filming, what a shame I really would of liked to see that.

  • haha, ytlvr must play on Dumbledore's team. He is on every video going nuts defending homosexuality.

  • He? Nice try -- I'm a woman. And though I'm not gay, I am very proud to say I'm "on Dumbledore's team".

  • Your mean, and so condescending to the gays. Being gay is cool! ( words aren't my thing right now)

  • No one will get to keep a post on this video that's condescending towards anyone -- so no worries there. :)

  • I feel so angry when u repeat the words "Dumbledore is gay" slowly and with a face of "what a pitty, he is gay" Im gay and thats offending if hes gay you shouldnt care about it. Dumbledore was gay ALWAYS form the beggining of the story so please STFU.

  • You really should listen to the words that are coming out of my mouth. Don't make yourself a victim, especially when I'm not attacking gay people.

  • so hes gay whats so crazy about it so this one thing has to satrt a major argument on faith and gay rights and morals no way in hell i mean its weeird like there is no reosone this had to happen there is absoluttley no point dumbledore is my favorite charachter and i love j.k.and harry potter like hell but i cant see what made her do it so my suggestion is to just forget the whole gay buisness

  • why does no one find this exciting?!?!?!?!?!!

  • They do, otherwise they wouldn't post. Hehe.

  • Dumbledore's gay? O.O That's surprising... But I LOVE gay peeps! I'm gay. Bisexual really... But still... Wow... Surpirisng...

  • Dumbledore is sooo hot cast a spell on me :) lol (sarcasim kids)

so what he was gay, Writers alwasy have a way they see character without having to put that part in the book or moive, like Star wars , they never said the name of that guy Darth Vader coked because he lacked faith in the force in the moive yet that guy still has a fictional name in the credits.

  • To summarize, this is a baseless, shameless, un-intellectual, and harmful direction for the series. Such a thing as sexual orientation is unimportant to a work such as Harry Potter.

THIS IS NOT A RANT AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY. I AM ASHAMED THAT ROWLING HAD TO IMPLY ANY SEXUAL ORIENTATION IN HER BOOK. I WOULD BE EQUALLY ASHAMED IF SHE ANNOUNCED HE WAS HETEROSEXUAL. IT'S NOT IMPORTANT.

  • Well-said, though I don't exactly agree that it was un-intellectual. It just paints a different picture for me of Dumbledore's persona -- I always assumed he had no interest in sex one way or the other.

  • Furthermore, Dumbledore was the symbolic representation of what love could entail. To describe him as homosexual (or for that matter any form of sexual orientation) is to say that homosexuality is the ultimate or desirable form of love. THIS is the reason that the implication of Dumbledore's sexuality is the most harmful. It implies that one form of sexuality is greater than another.

  • Now, to discuss the matter of homosexuality and its implication on the themes of the series. Love and the power of love is the strongest theme of the entire work. Now, with this new development, the entire emphasis has been shifted and perverted. In the eyes of the vast majority of readers (children), there was no reason to implicate the sexual orientation of ANY of the characters.

  • The audacity to imply that sexuality was a matter of importance at all in the thematic sense of the work is folly. In addition, this will cause uproar in the media community, and will obviously increase the grossing for the next two films scheduled to release in the next few years. This is SHAMELESS. It is GREED.

  • My own opinion on homosexuality and the matter of homo- vs. hetero-sexuality aside, this recent development is obviously a shameless and unsubstantiated ploy on behalf of the British author in order to widen her reader audience.

  • "This might be a cliche, but he doesn't seem like the gay type..."

Well it puts him in the company of Leonardo Da Vinci, Tchaikovsky, Oscar Wilde... So if by gay type you mean genius, then yes.

  • By gay type I mean "someone who wants to have sex with the same sex" -- and honestly, that's not a stereotype -- that's what being gay is all about. Though, I've no issues with stereotyping people -- especially when it comes to characters in a book -- lol.

  • LMAO!!!

  • i hate j.k. rowling. i thought dumbledore was awesome. He's still awesome but now he's gay. He was kind of the moral standard in the books. not anymore. I wanted to do everything dumbledore did but i dont want to do Grindelwald(adolf Hitler). this pisses me off so much. its not that i hate gay people at all. but now there's going to be a billion awkward jokes and christians will hate it even more . this is so annoying

  • i agree

  • Heh heh, good one, kylethecrackhead06.

  • wtf?What is wrong j.k. rowling

  • Gay type?? What the ???

  • She said that? It doesn't really mean much unless the books revealed it.. you could say anything you wanted about any character, but it doesnt affect the stories at all. shrug

  • Man, I now feel so much more smarter knowing that Double the Dumbass Dore in gay. And ya in your generation as well as mine, if you called someone gay...you had best better be able to back up such and insult...those words are like declaring a war.
