@sygo7g Still pictures were probably less interesting than motion pictures (or animations/videos), which is probably one reason why the 1987 TMNT (sometimes incorrectly referred to as the "classic TMNT" or "original TMNT") caught more attention than the 1984 TMNT comics. Another reason why it was created was to sell its toyline, which was the same reason why Toei Spider-Man (also referred to in Japan phonetically as "Spy Darma" and generically known overseas as the "Japanese Spider-Man").

That's like some company taking the criminally obscure, but hardcore and slightly bloody 1984 TMNT comics, and creating a loosely-based 1987 animated series out of it with less fighting, but it became popular. Other companies did the same with video games, R-rated films (e.g. Rambo & The Force of Freedom, etc.) and even some that were already in English (e.g. Fox Kids Thunderbirds); however, people hated them, because they're loosely-based on their sources and different.

Not to mention the comics are uneven and overrated. they can be good or they can completely jump into bad stories. No one hated the rambo cartoon though its not cult classic so few people remember it.

@GadGades I'm not saying people hated the 1987 TMNT, I was saying it was made in a similar way to how the shows based on Double Dragon, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were made. And how can you tell if the 1984 TMNT comics are overrated? I almost don't hear any talk about it. Everytime someone mentions "TMNT", the 1987 series pops up in their minds first. I thought the Rambo cartoon was hated, because of being uncanon, while now-disabled(?) YT user "theswitcher" made a "Rambo Stupidity" video.

@1983parrothead You can find things to make fun of even in ok shows but maybe the Conan adaptation would be better. It's actually quite nice despite the censorship going on. I personally feel the TMNT comics are overrated because they are very uneven and they don't stick to what I consider what they do well. Rambo doesn't have a canon really. The movies and the book go off on different tangent, and its very rare for what a cartoon does to be consider canon even if its good.

@GadGades I watched Conan The Adventurer before, and it didn't bother me much.

People like the AVGN, RetroJunk forum members, the HVGN and other similar people often focus on the 1987 TMNT, which is why there was a lack of 1984 Mirage TMNT content in most early TMNT video games, especially the beat 'em ups. I'm sure animations are praised more than most comics, because they move. That's why the word "anime" is heard more than "manga".

So Rambo's universe is like The Legend of Zelda universe?

This used to be a cult in Italy, I grew up with Hurricane Polymar....Back then we were not as politically correct as today, he used to kick the shit out of the villains in a pretty nasty way, but, personally, I did not turn into a sociopath because of this. Nowadays kids grow up with reality shows, don't think there is any good cartoon out for them anymore. Thanks for posting!

And the show wasn't cancelled, it ended its own story, not getting a sequel, still having a decent ending (you couldn't say so for Tekkaman, for example).

Tatsunoko's popularity, as well as interest in the company and some of its shows, have indeed increased ever since TvC was unveiled and released. i for one welcome this surge in popularity. :D Always good to see/hear people look up classic anime.

If that damn movie doesn't keep on getting pushed back, then "Gatchaman" will be (if it already isn't) the one to benefit the most from this recent interest in Tatsunoko shows. Aside from Speed Racer, its Tatsunoko's most popular anime.
