125,000lbs of thrust right there, backed down to 100,000lbs of thrust each at 3,000'AGL... Thats the sound of the worlds most powerful Jet Engine right there... you should hear it outside the aircraft... its pure Sex!
The sound is crisp, but check the bass on your camera. The engine sounds like you're hearing a purring cat outside in heavy rain through a can: It isn't reminiscent of power to me...
i always feel funy onbard this aircraft at cruise. i did a test and closed my eyes and i felt dizzy in the same way you do when you have had too many drinks. it could of been due to the aircraft motion. i'm convinced this feeling is caused by less oxygen to the brain
I'm getting tons of replies to my year old comment about "It really sucks." I understand what the title actually means now :) Initially I thought the reference was the weather sucks, but I can see the other meaning behind the power of the GE90!
@nobusan84 Trents. When you've absolutely gotta stall because you've lost thrust while landing due to ice clogging the fuel oil heat exchange, get Trents. Funny how the British passengers of that flight decided to sue Boeing and not the makers of the flawed engine design and airline that were actually at fault eh?
I wish they'd re-engineer the tri-jet. With 3 GE 90's and the right wing design, you could easily get an A380 sized fuselage airborn, and sustain take off with one engine failure. Engineers seem to be stuck on twins and quads though after all the hate for the MD11. I wish the aviation enthusiasts would outshine the "bottom line" enthusiasts. Not in this society full of consumers right?
The trijet design brought unnecessary complications that no longer need to exist in the era of 100,000lbft+ twinjet engines. Maintenance troubles on #2, fortification in the tail needed to hold #2, CoG skews due to the design to support #2... all of that can be eliminated, so why would any OEM not want to??
The only hope tri-jets have, would be something like the Blended Wing Body; but for that, they'd need to give up the tube+wings concept. Hope you aren't holding your breath
I actually have a design in my head that has the intake for #2 like an upside down "U" that is flush with the curvature of the fuselage, and wrapping half way down the body to allow enough extra opening to compensate for any air deficiencies like those that were present in the L-1011. Difficult to explain without drawing it, but it looks bitchin' on paper.
I'm sure it does, but unfortunately for you/it, "looks" don't amount to a drop of dog-doo in this industry. It's all about 1) performance and 2) opportunity cost.
Tri-jets can in theory compete on #1, but they always get trounced on #2.
Quite frankly, if the most brilliant engineering minds of the last 25 years; in Europe, Asia, and the Americas; haven't been able to come up with a widebody trijet design that can stand against twins... why would you think that this one could?
@ImmortalSynn It could because I've come up with a way to make maintenance feasible and economical, the way I'd design and mount the air duct and the engine. I can't disagree with your points though. You're right, although that's why in my original comment I said, "I wish the aviation enthusiasts would outshine the "bottom line" enthusiasts."
OMG I WOULD LOVE TO FLY ON ONE OF THESE!!!! ive only flew on an air canada a321 when i was in canada(wish i lived there) and it was alright but the engines on this are amazing!
@AuliaHarun hahaha, someone finally used the actual definition of the word but yet it was misunderstood =] My vacuum cleaner really sucks, too, but not this much.
@AuliaHarun I think he means sucks as in a vacuum cleaner sucks. And the term sucks in that means that the vacuum cleaner sucks its items up. SO A JET ENGINE SUCKS!

I think it is really cool you get to fly the 77W.. with those massive GE90s :)
AuliaHarun 2 years ago 21
Maybe his talking about the suction of the engine in the take off, I Interpret it this way..
peteypablo18187 2 years ago 3
@AuliaHarun maybe its a pun, it really sucks, describing the amount the air this engine has to suck in to produce so much thrust.

Oh yeah, you're right.. haha I can't believe I didn't notice that!

@AuliaHarun hahaha, someone finally used the actual definition of the word but yet it was misunderstood =] My vacuum cleaner really sucks, too, but not this much.
anoblenate 1 year ago
@AuliaHarun because of the moisture that is ingested in the engines on initiating take-off power. it's sucking it all in. get it?
KSharp320 1 year ago
Ya I get it now... :) Thanks!
AuliaHarun 1 year ago
@AuliaHarun may be he mean it literally...the engine really sucks...XD!!!
jainish007 1 year ago
@AuliaHarun Cause it sucks in 2.2 million cubic feet of air per minute at takeoff thrust. That's A LOT of sucking!!
