  • I HAVE AN ra 70 AND I HUNT ON BC'S WEST COAST. ITS A BEAUTIFUL GUN FOR SMALL GAME FISH LIKE ROCKIES AND LINGERS.

  • I do a little bit of snorkeling in the north east and am interested in spearfishing. I am curious as to what kind of equipment I would need besides my mask, snorkel, fins and suit. What is the yellow thing hanging from your wrist.

  • @madesigns94 It's a flash light. we use them to find abalone and lingcod.

  • whats the song in the begining?? nice ling

  • @ohmany777 Blind Wille Johnson "dark was the night, cold was the ground"

  • Any danger in swimming about with dead fish attached to your body....like sharks????

  • why didnt you guys catch and release ;) haha

  • whats a good gun to use for lings and rockfish?

  • @kay0tee0em A Rob Allen 70 cm

  • where did u get that depth watch????

  • Its old. My brother bought it at a yard sale.

  • @seahunter1 i been trying to find that exact watch and i cant find it anywhere good buy

  • Ya know, you might be able to stay down there longer with a tank or hookah ;)

  • @seahunter1 how does one go about getting into the sport of spearfishing? this is so fucking awesome i gotta try it. Are there certification courses or any special licenses needed? watching your videos makes me wanna try it out so bad

  • i wear a 5mm....but im fat lol

  • very cool great video

  • i hate touching the sea weed it gives me the creeps 0_0

  • how do you deal with the 45-50 degree water???

  • @utah0uts you buy the best 7mm wetsuit you can afford. some guys even wear 9 mms.

  • @seahunter1 i wear a 2mm lol but i do not get cold even in 40 derees of water!

  • @utah0uts I dive year-round in 48-58 degree water off California (Sonoma to Big Sur) in a 5mm open cell wetsuit. Stays warm for the first 2 hours but after that I get cold if I sit still too long.

Oh, and nice vermillion rockfish seahunter!! I'm marinemammal on spearboard.

  • @utah0uts pretty sure it was 45-50 feet not degrees. might not be far off though.

  • are you wearing a SHARKPOD on your left wrist? what is the range of your spear gun and does it have a reel?

  • @MILLIONAIRE916 Its a flashlight on my wrist. The range of that gun is probably about 8 feet. The reel is so if I shoot a fish in a hole and the shaft gets stuck I can swim to the surface with my gun. It has kept that gun from getting lost more then once.

  • @seahunter1 What brand of speargun is that?

  • I really like this video, the footage was well done and even though I have never tried this sport, you made it look like something i'd like to try. Is it hard to learn to dive to that depth? I assume that it's a skill that you acquire from just lots of practice.

  • good job real nice job on the vid. that ling looked a lil short.

  • @hangmanneal That ling is nothing special, but it isn't short either.

  • Pretty sick video! I went diving for Abolone up around Fort Bragg a few years ago, nothing like that though.

  • Do you see many congers there mate?

  • No we don't have them here. We have wolf eels that get 5-6 feet long and they eat urchins. I had a piece of one and it tasted good, but other guys say they taste bad so maybe the taste is variable. We also have monkey face eels that are pretty good tasting and get 3 feet long, but they live in cracks that are in 3-4 feet of water so most guys don't spear them since we are out deeper.

  • @seahunter1,cheers mate Ive always stayed away from congers as my father always told me to steer clear,Ive heard of people spearing them though, your vids are great anyway man, that seaweed you have there is insane

  • I WANNA DIVE SOON..

  • where did you buy your picasso wetsuit??

I haven't been able to find one in that grey/black camo

  • They havn't made that color suit for a long time. I don't think anyone has any left.

  • What gun are you using?

  • It is a home made 55cm teak gun .

  • Where did you get directions on how to make your gun?

  • wat kind of gun do u have????????

  • It is home made

  • NICE Bob song man....

  • what's that rectangular thing you have dangling off your left wrist the whole time?

  • a flashlight

  • where is that like near montana de oro

  • It is about 250 miles north

  • What video equipment is used to film underwater?? Thanks a lot!

  • I used a pannisonic fxo7 in an underwater housing

  • I've watched this video a dozen times and it never gets boring. Good choice of music and video shots. Was your partner on scuba or was he also freediving. I'm just getting into spearfishing and this video always gets me excited.

  • We were both freediving

  • what are good spots to dive in sonoma co.?

  • What kind of band configuration do you use on that first homemade gun?

    thanks

  • I tried two 14mm bands. It had good power, but the bands didn't sit right in the muzzle slot so I switched to one 20mm band. That looked better, but doesn't have enough power in my opinion. I have switched back to 2 bands. I might try two 16mm bands.

  • Hey, nice video, what kind of reel is that on the gun at the beginning of the video?

    thanks

  • Thanks! The reel is an omer match 50.

  • nice video, sure wish we had water like that up here in humbolt co, that's a nice gun you shot the vermilion with, who makes it?

  • Thanks. I know what you mean about the water in Humboldt. I went to HSU. The gun I shot the vermilion with is home made.

  • what are the best mask for spearfishing?

is the mares samurai any good

  • agreed man Trinidad is definitly a hit a or miss dive day

  • is lingcod good eatin?? iv never had it

  • It's good. It is one of the better fish to eat on our coast. It is similar, but not as good as California halibut.

  • how often do u run into white sea bass on these close in shore dives? im assuming white sea bass are still leagal to take in norcal, am i wrong??

  • I have never seen one up here and I haven't heard of anyone seeing a WSB in sonoma Co either. Boat fishermen catch a few in marin county and in the Bay. I have heard guys see them in monteray occasionally. .

  • I live in So Cal. Sure want to learn how. done alot of shallow spearfishing, (inland waterways 30' or less). Kelp forest looks intimidating. I think I would put fish in float. though... Aren't there some big sharks up in Nor Cal?

  • what a dream..............

  • sick job man... that was a nice lingcod

  • It's a Picasso wetsuit

  • Does anyone know the name/manufacturer on the back of that wetsuit? Ive tried a bunch to read it but cant and thats one nifty suit...

  • its a piccasso suit

  • The first suit is an old picasso that they don't make anymore. The second is an Elios suit.

  • Was that Mendo or Sonoma?

  • Sonoma

  • what's the name of yur fishing gun is that?

  • Its blues, not "arab music"

  • haha arab music?

  • What??? You must be tone deaf. It's the blues dude.

  • i know i know. some other guy said "whats with this shitty arab music?" and i was laughing at him.

  • nice video, cool colors on that ling too!

  • Nice dives man, great vid,

  • i want to try spear fishing off annacapa with a closed circut rebreather. that would be tight.

  • whats the name of the second song?

  • Im Hurting Inside by Bob Marley

  • hey man were in norcal i fish in santa cruz a couple times, but i just moved here now so i can head out alot more now. that is some nice water quality. best reef i found over here the water isnt that good and its arond 55ft so i cant stay down that long, hopefully ill have some of your lungs soon...

  • All of this video was shot north of Fort Ross on the Sonoma coast.

  • first one you speared was a canary and those are illegal to keep where i live

  • The first fish does look like a canary, but it is a vermillion rockfish. They look similar especially that particular fish since it had so much white on it's side, but once it is at the surface you can see that most of the white is already fading away and that it is a much darker red color then a canary.

  • It is a canary, vermilions do not have a white/gray line going down the side. And they are illegal in california

  • When Vermilion rockfish are alive they commonly have white patches and even a white outline on a portion of their lateral line. Once dead they fade to a solid deep red color. The white lateral line is one characteristic used for ID, but color is often a poor characteristic to use. Vermilion have little to no fork in the caudal fin (tail), while canaries caudal fin is forked. The lobes of the caudal and anal fins on vermilion are rounded while the lobes on canary rockfish come to a sharp point.

  • Wow, youve convinced me.. I did notice the tail but I was unaware of the color change after death. Anyways, great video

  • if you spearfish you proballiy have to learn how to hold your breath for a long time right?

  • What was the fish with the camouflaged scales? Was that a dolphin?

  • awesome video... mad skillz

  • what type of suit is your brother wearing? i know it's a Picasso but i don't recognize it. Never seen that one before. Enlighten me.

  • My brother wears the elios. The picasso is mine. It is an older picasso. They don't make that color anymore, but it was a gray and black camouflaged suit. I don't remember the name of it.

  • I have one of each of those suits haha. The Picasso was called 'Hombre' I believe, in a 5mm.

  • hey jogafutebol....the azores are full of tuburao branco.... voce e doido!!!

    atencao maluco

  • Arent afraid of sharks. Those waters are full of great whites.

  • ohh and never hook fish to yourself when spearfishing always use a line or bobber, fish on you mean shark on you.

  • That depends on where you are diving, but on the north coast it is probably not a good idea to use a belt stringer. We usually use a spearfishing float, but I wanted the shot of my brother's catch on his belt.

  • ohh thats kool...i wish i could go spearfishing here but im too afraid of sharks lol i have however gone spear fishing on the island where im from (sao jorge, AZORES). Well good luck, glad you replied.

  • is that a homemade gun?

  • Yes it is. 55cm teak gun, one 19mm band, 7.1mm riffe shaft, Poseidon sub trigger.
