I'm not a Jesus freak but I'm glad Rick's doing well and is healthy. Most guys from the 60s are dead from drugs. Johnny's W. health is pretty bad. The solo here was superb. Keep rockin Rick.

Rick gave me a copy of Real American when it came out. Hat's off to him and his faith to rework a standard to reflect his disire for others to see God's love for us. Check Mark Farner's rework of Some Kind of Wonderful as well. Soldier on my brothers.

RD has been a huge influence on me as a guitar player; I played his guitar solo on "Back in the USA" from the "Roadwork" album with Edgar Winter endlessly because it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. Johnny Winter's version of Still Alive and Well (Rick wrote it for him) is one of his greatest guitar songs ever. But Jesus Christ, Rick - shut the fuck up about your damned religion and play the fucking song as badassedly as it can be played!

I have always enjoyed Rick Derringer's music-with the Winter brothers or solo and I think he was a true ace on the guitar (still is). Hey, I don't mind the preaching, he can still burn up the fretboard; besides, Johnny can say he's still alive, but really not too well, lifestyle has taken a severe toll on him. Rick seems to have weathered the roller coaster ride pretty darn well.
If you want to hear some really tasty old school lead guitar work from Derringer, check out the outro solo on "Funky Music", from Johnny Winter's 1970 album "Johnny Winter And" (not the live album). It's him & Winter trading guitar licks, but Derringer dominates - has a thicker tone & uses the wah wah pedal a bit. The song is on youtube.

Rick gave me a copy of Real American when it came out. Hat's off to him and his faith to rework a standard to reflect his disire for others to see God's love for us. Check Mark Farner's rework of Some Kind of Wonderful as well. Soldier on my brothers.

So Derringer changed the lyrics to incorporate Jesus.........oh for crissakes I'm about his age too......hery look...I believe that every body has the right to believe in what they want. I too am listening to music since I was young and I agree that it isnot my cup of tea when musicians broadcast their beliefs in songs I do like the version by Johnny WInter better.If it is true he made it comming out of rehab, that is a totaly different thing to me... but in the end it is all a matter of personal taste, I would like to give everyone the space to believe what they want. Belief in God carries a responsibility to reach out to others to share God's love Rick has no choice. As a Christian, Rick can reach people with the "new and improved" lyrics in this song. At one time these lyrics probably would have bothered me, because I was running from what I knew deep in my heart was the truth. I thought being a Christian meant I couldn't be the person I wanted to be. I now realize that God's plan for me includes my hopes and dreams, so there was no reason for fear!

This rewritten song is Rick's way of reaching out to spread God's love. If it pisses you off, that's too bad. But bear in mind Rick wrote the song to begin with, who are you to tell him what to do with his song anyway? Rick doesn't answer to you, he answers to God!

way to redeem an old rock classic song there Rick. I sure was shocked to see you became a christian---great testimony on your website. I lived briefly with the McCoys keyboard player Bobby Peterson back in 1974, and saw the toll drug use can take on rock stars. I'm glad Rick and his brother Randy survived it all and have a positive life message to give to others.

Gotta agree with Bluzcat8. RD has been a huge influence on me as a guitar player; I played his guitar solo on "Back in the USA" from the "Roadwork" album with Edgar Winter endlessly because it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. Johnny Winter's version of Still Alive and Well (Rick wrote it for him) is one of his greatest guitar songs ever. But Jesus Christ, Rick - shut the fuck up about your damned religion and play the fucking song as badassedly as it can be played!

I have always enjoyed Rick Derringer's music-with the Winter brothers or solo and I think he was a true ace on the guitar (still is). That being said, it just kind of chaps me when rockers find God and alter their tunes to fit in religion...whatever floats your boat but don't shove it in folks faces if they just want to rock out.

Wasn't the original song about Johnny Winter getting over his heroin habit and him looking back and commemorating the rock stars who had fallen because of hard living and Johnny was happy he had kicked his habit and he was "Still Alive and Well"? If you want to hear some really tasty old school lead guitar work from Derringer, check out the outro solo on "Funky Music", from Johnny Winter's 1970 album "Johnny Winter And" (not the live album). It's him & Winter trading guitar licks, but Derringer dominates - has a thicker tone & uses the wah wah pedal a bit. The song is on youtube.

Some of you think this is a Derringer recent song. Anyone listen to Edgar Winter's White Trash "Roadwork" album recently? The album (vynil) came out in 72-73 and has Derringer singing this song featured on it..........
