  • Mr. Chops!

  • Awesome version of this tune! I remember the Johnny Winter version of this and I never knew RD perfomred this one.

  • UNSHAKEABLE.UGottaListen2b4udie!!!

  • Rick needs to tone down the preaching and tone up the speed this song was made to be sung at full speed. By the way it is not a cover the guy did write the song, but I prefer either of Edgar or Johnny Winter's versions from the 70s.

  • awesome work......

  • Im proud of you Rick , It didnt take courage just faith

  • great musicians and very good music !!

  • Keep on preaching if that is what is working for you. If you are luckly you will find Jesus at the end of your rope!!!!!!!

  • i could do without the preaching but ricky can still play a guitar. I have seen him with Johnny, Edgar, on his own at county fairs,at guitar shows just showing off the latest warrior. Creidt where its due. Rick is a player

  • Dude YES!....

  • the tempo is too slow.

    crappy cover.

  • Looks like Will Lee on bass...

  • Drummer kicks ass...he's up to Rick's standard of Required Rocking!

  • Great, more ammo for jihadists.

  • Saw him in '77 and '81.

    He was better.

  • lamest version of this song everrrrrrrr

  • I couldn't find any songs by him except Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo, then i finally found this, luckily he's not a one hit wonder

  • I respect a man who has the courage and conviction to state his religious beliefs those who have no beliefs have a fool for a guide rock on Ricky

  • Sweat and live music go together like a Strat plugged into a Marshall.

  • i saw him at a small thing in holyoke mass in mid 90's, he looked like death, sweating like apig on stage...his wife is HOT!! i tried getting her autograugh and just laughed at him, BUT i loved the music BACK in late 70's early 80's with edgar wintwer n shit, then it was killer, i dont kno about this jesus saved ma and i am alive n well stuff, it isjust not the smae.

  • Seems to me that since it is HIS song he can do whatever he wants with it.. I for one love this version!

  • He's singing what's in his heart now. The old version doesn't ring true for him anymore. Isn't that what artistic integrity is about? I can relate...

  • I'm not a Jesus freak but I'm glad Rick's doing well and is healthy. Most guys from the 60s are dead from drugs. Johnny's W. health is pretty bad. The solo here was superb. Keep rockin Rick.

  • Rick you were a great musician... But seriously, keep your religion out of your famous rock songs..... Geeeezz that'll alienate your fans for sure.

  • I love it.. good to know things were straightened out.. Gosh I remember the days when McCoys first started.. the Caverns / Phyicdelic Grape.. lol Been a while!

  • ohh ricky, ricky, ricky.....what the fuck is up with you?? keep your religion to yourself....go snort a line, and write some good shit...living on past glories, and killin a great song at the same time...fuck off....

  • @jodonte1 Do you practice what you preach? If so you'll probably be dead in 5 years. Rick lives on.

  • i noticed that riff from little girl by cream

  • Wow!! Til I saw this I didn't know Rick had bcome a Christian! Glory to God!

  • A lot has been said of Rick, but somebody has to make honourable mention of his bandmates. These guys are great!!Bass player getting a nice deep sound, really nice work, and the drumming is excellent, guys into it and giving his kit a good workout.Well done fellas!!!

  • Was a nice version, until Ricky went all "Jesus" to the MAX, and ruined a perfectly good song he wrote.

  • @panhead1219 Agree wholeheartedly. Christ, I'm sick of the shit. One of my favorite tunes and now he's gone all preachy on us....

  • One of my favorite concerts -

    1974 tempe stadium

Bad Company - 1st US tour

    REO Speedwagon

    Edgar Winter/Rick Derringer

glad to see you're still alive and well!

    rock on bro....

  • God Bless Rick - I too am Alive & Well because of Jesus! Most people won't understand until they have been on the "lost highway". Here's to you my Brother.

  • NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS 'DERRINGER - LIVE' BUT ACCEPTABLE.....RICK WROTE THIS SONG...IT'S HIS.....

  • NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS 'DERRINGER - LIVE' BUT ACCEPTABLE.....

  • Just returned from seeing him in Vernon NJ and he killed!

  • For Rick, great number. One great guy and guitarist.

  • Now his music has a real message to get a hold of and hang on to. Praise God his gift of music is not being wasted.

  • I stand corrected,

  • Required Rocking by Rick!

  • Sorry Rick..... Song belongs to Johnny......

  • @MultiBarberman How do you figure? Rick wrote the song. The only song Johnny wrote on that whole album was "Rock and Roll".

  • Someone made a comment previously, that if Rick was singing about the devil no one would say anything, but since he's talking about someone that stands for what's good and pure, so many people take offense. 'Just doesn't seem right! Rick deserves respect for believing and living the way he wants, since he has no intention of harming others...

  • I don't know about this one. Yep Rick can do what he wants. I thought the original song was inspired when Johnny WInter got out of rehab and went through a real bad time shakin drug addiction? Seems like the original intent might have been a lot more real and inspiring? Can't believe Rick is a real Jesus freak now.

  • @vexamatic - rick wrote this when he realized johnny & others were on the 'path' he wrote this song & can do with it as he pleases..some people just don't get that jesus 'saves'...HELLO...

  • The denim album and Sweet evil are living evidence of the man's true force without the albino twin shadow. Why nin hell the wrestling anthems and why not cutting looose from the nice guy image. On the cover of Spring Fever he was posing like a teen girl...

  • I don't care is Rick needs to use this song to witness. It's still a great song and the world has always been and will always be a better place with Rick in it. I am a richer man for having been his roadie, his student and his friend. To see Rick alive and well is a gift.

And he can still do that "yeaaahhh!" as bad as it gets. ;-)

  • good to hear rick renewed his mind from the pudrid trash and garbage this world has to offer..rock on rick.

  • Since Rick's found Jesus, he's badder than ever, in the best possible way. Keep on rockin' Rick. This is awesome!

  • as for jesus being alive and well, unlikely the Romans didn't fuck about when they nailed people up, sorry god-botherers there is no god, the whole thing is just superstition to keep the poor in line and the rich in power.

  • not a patch on Jonny Winter's real version, this is just a load of god-bothering shite.

  • @SuperLordjohn Where 2 start, hmmmm, God/Jesus loves u + if you seek the kingdom of God u'll find it, if? And Rick Derringer who is Johnny's best friend wrote this song. Hmmmm, information is a good thing.

  • Oh No!

    This is crappo Christian Rock.

The devil has the best tunes

  • Brilliant smooth guitar playin' & groove pumping rhythm section by the way, if I may be so bold as too interupt ya god bitchin' chat n' all!!!

  • The problem with God is a semantic one.

People tend to be looking in the wrong place.

  • @SubliminalAttraction - "...problem with God is a semantic one" - can I ask what you mean by that?

  • i was at this show in manchester with a friend, i have a pic that was taken with my friend , me and rick after the show down stairs where he was selling records and signing autographs..

  • Problem is (Jesus or not) this does really suck compared to what he used to be!

  • @SubliminalAttraction If Emmit Smith wouldn't be able to run the football like he did when he played for the Cowboys either...but that wouldn't take away from his greatness, nor his accomplishments. The good news is, unlike playing football, you don't get too old to rock n roll and I'm very glad Rick is still out there kicking-out the jams! Maybe he's lost a little bit of the old razzle-dazzle but ya still gotta love him.

  • @SilverHamer Hey Hammer ,you and I think a lot alike , I appreciate your comment ,

and your right about old rockers they keep on going, I am a conga player I know what it takes to keep a band in tune and together, and with the help of Jesus that band can only get better, thanks again pal, Dano

  • Awesome version!

  • Seems totally dead without Mr J. Winter! And who needs the Jesus bullshit?

  • Don't knock it buddy, Jesus Christ is alive and well and if Rick was making a song about the devil you wouldn't have said nothing ,but since he wants to talk about someone who is good and beautiful you blow him off calling his and my Lord bullshit come on man is that right?

  • you don't sound too god fearing to me "cockman"...

  • Well bigtf tell ,me what is your interpatation of a God fearing christian ca'pache.........

  • @cockman54 You took the words right out of my mouth. And bigtf's comment has no merit as you were merely "citing" what SubliminalAttraction said.

  • @SubliminalAttraction It's not bullshit and a lot of people need Him, me for one.

  • cool version ,Rock on Rick, and God Bless you man

  • thats his choice if he want to be a Christian, so what, hes a great talent and a great person, if that what makes him happy then thats his buisness, if you dont like what he says then dont listen to him, thank God he made the choice he did. he still rocks.

  • Rick gave me a copy of Real American when it came out. Hat's off to him and his faith to rework a standard to reflect his disire for others to see God's love for us. Check Mark Farner's rework of Some Kind of Wonderful as well. Soldier on my brothers.

  • @Subhuman80

    gay

  • your gay

  • One of my all time favorite songs....and I LOVE the new lyrics!!!!!

    AMAZING!!!

  • The band sounds great! Rick is remarkably ageless, voice and guitar in tact. The new lyrics, however, irritate the heck out of me. Wouldn't stop me from checking out his act though

  • Great Job, Rick! JESUS is alive and well!

  • If you don't like it dont listen this song kicks ass,saw Rick this summer right in front of the stage ,ride for vet's in distress Newburgh ,N.Y.,one of the best you will see,PEACE

  • Oh shit, its like listening to Kurt Warner yelling, "Jesus" must be a Cardinals fan"............yeah well you better ask Jesus (or Warner) how the Steelers won the Super Bowl. So Derringer changed the lyrics to incorporate Jesus.........oh for crissakes I'm about his age too......hery look...I believe that every body has the right to believe in what they want. But you dont go changing the lyrics to songs people associate you with. Keep your beliefs to yourself and enjoy.

  • @Kenoman29 It's his song, he can do what he wants with it.

  • @fender7375 ....yeah you are right. If he wants to change the lyrics and ruin a perfectly good song to add all that Jesus horseshit in there, thats his business.

  • @Kenoman29 Agreed, I personaly am not fond of this witnessthing too, but as you said, if he wants to let him. I just listen to the music and take the lyrics for granted.....

  • @DirkjeA ...sorry it took so long to get back to you. When youtube changed it's format, I didnt have an account any more. I guess they did not like that I know more about rock and roll or metal then most people, considering I have been listening to music since 1962. I still stand by what I said.....It's his song, but dont BROADCAST your beliefs in songs that made you money. If he wants to sleep with an East Asian Wildebeest, thats his business. See my point?

  • @Kenoman29 : Hi partner. Here in the states we have this peculiar right called "free speech" in case you weren't familiar with it. Cheers ~

  • @kevinneslund Man, you just dont listen, or read properly do you...go back and read my posts again. And I am not your partner...I like girls. And I have ben in the "States" since my birth in 1955. So if you want to argue about sports or music with me, feel free....you wont win, but feel free. Of course you'll have to look up your info where I have experienced it.

  • I too am listening to music since I was young and I agree that it isnot my cup of tea when musicians broadcast their beliefs in songs I do like the version by Johnny WInter better. If it is true he made it comming out of rehab, that is a totaly different thing to me... but in the end it is all a matter of personal taste, I would like to give everyone the space to believe what they want. Greetz from a dutch lady and thanks for your message

  • @DirkjeA - rick changed this when he realized the 'path' he was going down was wrong - and that he married a woman he went to h.s. with that showed him the way. i believe he has changed for the better - and it saved his life....believe me, i know...

  • @Kenoman29 Well now I am sorry to react a little late...lol

Yes I see your point and I do agree completely. Don't need to say more on this subjetc than that you are right. I too listen to music my whole life and I grew up with rock and roll music too. Seems we have some things in common, I too was born in 1955, but not in the USA.

  • Friggin Awesome, Rock on Rick, I saw him at The Other Place in Tampa Fl back in about 1976 an have since found my was as has Rick, Rock on Brother!!!

  • Guess we won't be hearing about any cosmic teenage love affairs.

  • Unless they are in the bible........

  • Should of left it original lyrics.

  • DAMN RIGHT !

  • Yes Col, you are so right!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome.

  • WTF?

  • Belief in God carries a responsibility to reach out to others to share God's love Rick has no choice. As a Christian, Rick can reach people with the "new and improved" lyrics in this song. At one time these lyrics probably would have bothered me, because I was running from what I knew deep in my heart was the truth. I thought being a Christian meant I couldn't be the person I wanted to be. I now realize that God's plan for me includes my hopes and dreams, so there was no reason for fear!

  • GTR wake up will you. "New & Improved" lyrics to this song??????????? Who the hell says its new and improved??? I hate to inform you, but no matter what religion you believe in, you are gonna die. We all are gonna die at some point. And there is no "being" that can prevent it. I want to live to be 178 years old, but it aint gonna happen. Oh yes, was it Gods' love that made my only 2 children die six months apart? 22 and 25 years old? Explain that one genius...

  • Comment removed

  • what did your children die from?

  • My 22 year old took an "accidental" overdose of prescription painkillers, and my 25 year old committed suicide 6 months after her sister. In the future, its best if you personal message me rather than me posting this for the whole world to see.

  • gtr, I tried to answer your email but couldnt...my point is, everybody can live like the want to live, eat what they want to eat, follow what religion that want to follow, but DONT BE BROADCASTING IT EVERYWHERE! Derringer changed the lyrics to accomadate his faith and he should'nt have. Thats the kind of thing that pisses people off. Its like gay people are fine, but why the hell to they need a parade? Do what ever you want, but KEEP YOUR BELIEFS TO YOURSELF! NO NEED TO ADVERTISE!

  • Kenoman29, you're completely missing my point. My point is this: if someone is a Christian, the bible commands us to "go forth and make disciples of all nations." This rewritten song is Rick's way of reaching out to spread God's love. If it pisses you off, that's too bad. But bear in mind Rick wrote the song to begin with, who are you to tell him what to do with his song anyway? Rick doesn't answer to you, he answers to God!

  • gtrjake...you are missing MY point. I said earlier, people have every right to do what they want and to believe what they want to believe in. Thats FINE! Im gonna guess you are younger than I am because I know that song when it came out. And when I saw he changed the words to accomodate his faith, it was like "What the hell"??? NO YOU DUMMY he doesnt have to answer to me, but hell, people come knocking on my door at 9:00 in the AM wanting to change my religion and I say SCRAM NOW !!

  • K29-Well, I'm 50, I don't know how old you are, although judging from your lack of manners I would guess maybe 2? I remember the song from when it came out also. As far as someone knocking on your door at 9:00 am, why don't you take your anger out on them, instead of misplacing it around here? Perhaps a class in anger management and some grief consuling might help get some of the kinks out of your colon-just a thought.

  • gtrjake, seek help before it seeks you.

  • K-29- I'm going to end our war of words. I wish you peace and no ill harm! I think I see some of myself in you, because you seem angry, and at times, I am angry. I hope you find comfort somewhere-if all else fails, give God a try-you might be surprised. Anyway, enough preaching, I know you don't want to hear it! Good luck, my friend!

  • Gtr....for crissakes, you need to stop being so one track minded Aw hell...I'm done with this.......

  • @Kenoman29 : I've read some of your postings. I see the common thread with your postings. I feel your pain and frustration. I shall pray for your comfort and peace of mind. I hope you find peace and joy for your afflictions and distress. God Bless! ~

  • There are no contradictions in either of your messages

  • Rick inspired me 30 years ago to pick up the guitar and has also inspired me to return and believe Jesus, something that got lost in being cool, making money, chasing skirts, etc. Not only is talented, he inspires too.

  • didn't jesus say that its esier for a camel to fit throught the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into hevan?

  • so the book says, but I think maybe that was added in later to make the peasants feel good about their misery. In any case, would it not be more sinful to sit around wasting one's God given talents and skills rather than applying them?

  • Rick is one of the best !If not the best! you can take that to the bank !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Old rockers never die, they turn into pudgy arthritic old men

  • RAZ-A-MATAZ me R-I-C-H-A-R-D! I've li' 2 say seeing so many other Jesus loving folk already SAYING IT !

Now Johnny it is your turn, yes J W, God leaves it up 2 us 2 choose, and life only gets better.

Rick you are now truly the coolest cat crawlin' this temperal place, so just

    Acts 1;8 ok my friend.

  • Any being who would create life forms less intelligent than itself and would want or need worship from what it made is guilty of self worship.

If you could create a life form would you want to be worshiped by what you made? If they did something that you did not like would you punish them forever?

    (A) only if you were a sick megalomaniac.

If Jesus had died and stayed dead, that would have been a real sacrifice. Jesus traded location for our sins.

  • way to redeem an old rock classic song there Rick. I sure was shocked to see you became a christian---great testimony on your website. I lived briefly with the McCoys keyboard player Bobby Peterson back in 1974, and saw the toll drug use can take on rock stars. I'm glad Rick and his brother Randy survived it all and have a positive life message to give to others.

  • Praise Jesus!!!! The message is as real now as it ever was.

    Thanks :)

  • LUV U RICK!...GOD BLESS YOU! (and ALL of us)!...all of you "NON-BELIEVERS"...someday...you'll KNOW WHY!!

  • The best power trio in the hole world!!!

  • I think I'm gonna hurl.

  • Jesus rose from the dead. Now that is credibility that guy doesnt know what he is talking about. I think he means he lost his credibility with HIM, but why is that a problem?

  • W-o-w ! One guy says he's lost his credibility! Credility with what?...this world and all the pathetic choices? You receive the only true spiritual awaking with JESUS CHRIST and find yourself sitting back and finally realizing.... What this world has to offer and live for sure does "pale" in comparison to what God has to offer concerning His plan, purpose, and promise of eternity with Him. Christianity not only teaches how to live, but gives us the power to live it.... through JESUS CHRIST!

  • I SAW THIS MAN WHEN AREOSMITH WAS COMING INTO ROCK. (they were on the same "venue")....I MUST SAY ..."RICK...YOU BLEW THEM AWAY"!!

  • Wow, it is really sad to hear such a great artist turn his great song into meaningless jesus-babble. His credibility is completely lost.

  • I don't think you will go out an burn all his records will you? Remember religion goes both was. Up and down +/- any way you slice the pie Good Or Bad.

  • why? does he have bad credit or something?

  • Gotta agree with Bluzcat8. RD has been a huge influence on me as a guitar player; I played his guitar solo on "Back in the USA" from the "Roadwork" album with Edgar Winter endlessly because it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. Johnny Winter's version of Still Alive and Well (Rick wrote it for him) is one of his greatest guitar songs ever. But Jesus Christ, Rick - shut the fuck up about your damned religion and play the fucking song as badassedly as it can be played!

  • I completely agree.. i love rd and didn't expect this vocal wise anyway..

  • when mainstream turns it's fickle back on you, the jesus freaks will always take you in and make your house payment. Rick wrote and played some great stuff, glad to see he's found a paying audience.

  • holy Master

  • I have always enjoyed Rick Derringer's music-with the Winter brothers or solo and I think he was a true ace on the guitar (still is). That being said, it just kind of chaps me when rockers find God and alter their tunes to fit in religion...whatever floats your boat but don't shove it in folks faces if they just want to rock out.

  • Hey bro you're welcome to your opinion, but so is Rick, and he is the artist and he gets to choose what inspires him to create his art!

Sounds like you've got a devil in you who don't like Jesus, you may need to deal with that devil in the future!

  • I enjoy this song everytime I watch it and you guys can play here in sarnia anytime ,life is too short to be cutting down anyone who is trying to express themseles in a positive manner just enjoy tks

  • That was kick ass!!!!

  • Preach it Rick, rock and rollers need to hear the gospel and this is a great format to do it!!!

  • From...Union City, IN

  • 25 years ago Rickey here folks was "Dancing With Mr. D"

(google lyrics to dancing with mr. D.) Gotta be the best gospel song written!

  • Wasn't the original song about Johnny Winter getting over his heroin habit and him looking back and commemorating the rock stars who had fallen because of hard living and Johnny was happy he had kicked his habit and he was "Still Alive and Well"? I'm a Christian and I don't have a problem with people spreading the gospel but don't do it with good Rock n Roll tunes, please. Make music like Creed if you want to preach.

  • uh oh...you called creed music! blaaaa haaaa haaaa

I agree with ya though, leave christianity to the gospel singers.

Just doesn't belong in politics or rock n roll! 'Cause as we all know....rock n roll is the devils music!

I've met Rick on several occasions and he is born again, which is great, but he always ask "hows the good lord treating you?" That I can't answer, but Santa still real good to me!

  • Well it's good to hear that he has reached a good space in his head. Whatever works for you to help keep you sane, all the more power to you. Hopefully it isn't TOO illegal lol ;)

  • Hey, I don't mind the preaching, he can still burn up the fretboard; besides, Johnny can say he's still alive, but really not too well, lifestyle has taken a severe toll on him. Rick seems to have weathered the roller coaster ride pretty darn well.

  • He is Great!

  • I do not believe in god but I still love rick. Great shit!

  • I like Rick's style this is a fun rockin version a little too much Jesus stuff but he's a good gueetarist

  • Im sorry but that sucks ass....Johnny Winter Destorys his version

  • Used to like Derringer, until this Palinesque garbage. No body wants to hear about your imaginary man in the sky.

  • Rick, you were great. Sounds like your on Valium. Get some fucking energy. Jesus, thats fine. But shit, dont change it to christine rock.

  • Man, I was diggin it til 1:05.

  • I know what you mean.

  • We love you Rick...you rock

  • Never heard of Rick Derringer but if he wrote the song he has every right to re-write it. He rocks!

  • ya know i really like this version espesially the bass player with rick during the solos, you guys cutting down the religious words well its just his version of the song at this time , just enjoy the musicianship

  • You should hear the four horsemen (NOT METALLICA) do this track. Wiked.

  • pathetic

  • Ya know, I am not anti religion...I swear I'm not.....but damn....dont change the words around and incorporate this Holy Roller crap...what you do on your own time is your own business, and I'm all for it. But DONT push your shit on anybody else.

  • Rick rocks!!!!

  • Jesus Christ that fuckin sucks...Rick, give it up dude...join a lame ass praise band and quit messin up a good song. I don't cae if you wrote it or not...that was pathetic

  • Gee rex I see that 'arse' is part of your name..how appropriate...oh yeh... fuck off dimwit...this is great rock by the man who wrote it...

  • Rick can still smoke a fretboard, more power to him. Clever remake of an old hit but also underlines the current status of his old cohort, Johnny Winter, who is still alive but sadly not very well at all.

  • Something about this sounds like a country version.Lacks energy and is to slow. Sounds like Ricks getting old to me.

  • With his solosound, he got some kind of second tone. What is it?

  • ~Man his playing is improving with age...~~

  • Rick's still fantastic and in good shape!

  • Jesus Will make a new man of you

  • Some of you think this is a Derringer recent song. Anyone listen to Edgar Winter's White Trash "Roadwork" album recently? The album (vynil) came out in 72-73 and has Derringer singing this song featured on it..........
