First time I saw this scene it freaked me out. The creepy music totally does not fit with the scene, which I think is done on purpose to make you feel uneasy. You hear the same creepy music when the twins appear to Danny in the parlor the first time, so you immediately associate the music to something weird or freaky that is about to happen. The same scene without the music would have been completely innocent and disarming.
does anyone know the title of a film, from the 1990s i think, about a Roswell grey? grey was friendly and held in some bunkery place, communicated with one worker in particular telepathically, and liked ice cream.
if i recall right, a main actor in it is often a mob guy in lots of mob films.
i saw it on BBC2 many years ago, and can never find it or recall the title.
@GregariousGorilla LMAO hope your joking but just in case.. The black man is reading the little boys mind while the little boy is also reading the mans mind without knowing it..
here i go, down the slope, im goin a zip-zop-zoobaty-zop!!! nah i joke, i really feel for this character, hes the one empathetic character for the kid besides his mum :(
the novel portrays danny as a good kid, but it also portrays him as part of the problem. the story says or implies that danny's power ( the shining ) had caused those overlook spirits to become more powerful than they would have been if danny had not been at the overlook. it was as if danny was unwittingly strengthening those spirits. this doesn't mean that the spirits were friendly toward danny. the overlook was trying to absorb danny so that the overlook could gain even more power.
@echolyris Oh ok, 'cause "Doc" is what they called him at home. I just realized it while watching this scene again.
i bet the name "Doc" is actually reference to Jack Nicholson's role in the earlier film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". 'Cause he says "doc" a lot, sarcastically, in that movie.
Kubrick does this a lot, where he cuts to a new shot and you can't figure out right away where the camera jumped to. It's disconcerting, especially in this case, where the camera in the second shot is located right where Crothers and Duvall are standing.
thanks ill have some strawberry
