Also, Rats aren't biters, they are actually really friendly, all you need to do is be gentle. You wouldn't even need tongs, or to pick them up by the tail, if you were more gentle with them and your movements weren't so sudden. More calm rats=happier you:)
I'm all for breeding rodents as food for reptiles, but I think the living conditions for these rats are so sad. Honestly, they're so cramped. The rats have lives too, and because they have such short lives, they should at least be treated well. :(
Dear Ghandi! I breed rats for snake food as well and this is pretty crappy care. My rats all live in 40 gallon tanks with wheels, balls, huts, and other things to keep them entertained. Just because they're going to be used as food doesn't mean you have to treat them like crap. I can't stand breeders like this

Me again, rats and mice love to hide in and under things. Eat a lot of different things. Give them some bird seed/millet as treats. Put a bunch of hay or straw so they can hide and tunnel around. Give them stuff to climb. Give them some safe wheels!! Chew blocks! Scatter some unsalted sunflower seeds around their clean cages as treats so they can scavenge, something to keep them busy! Sigh...

You are so cruel. The cages are too small, all the families should be in different cages that are each twice as big as the cages you have. The mice (females) need to be in a cage 10 times bigger than that. The ones you put log on top of should be 100 times bigger. All the cages are way too dirty. BoaC2323 is an old friend of mine....first off this is not cruel, these mice and rats are bred by him for the main purpose to be fed to his snakes, this means they wouldn't even exist if he didn't do this, secondly, if he didn't do this, his snakes would starve to death and that may be even more mean that what he is doing here. I myself have a few breeder mice, but in Hawaii, there are no reptiles big enough to need mice as feeders. I'm not entirely happy with "feeders" but oh well. Everything's gotta eat one way or the other.

@Phoebala99 they're feeder rats, thats what people with snakes do. you would feed a starving cat or dog but wouldn't feed a starving snake. rats are the natural prey of snakes and reptiles and i think more rat owners need to learn that. i have three beautiful males, i love them every day and they live wonderful lives, however though i'm not so closed minded to not understand that snakes eat rats in the wild. all rats serve a purpose, rather it be science, pets, or feeders.

If the rat is an albino, the albino gene prevents every other genes from being seen, and it can carry any colour, so the babies can also be of any colour. Many colours may seem like white but carry different genes so theres no way to know if you don't know their genetics.
Dog food is fine for rodents, none of you have the slightest clue as to what your saying. Most dog foods have everything a rodent needs. Read the lables, high in fat and protein, crabohydrates, and minerals. You can supplement the diet with some vitamin powder too if you like.
Same with pine shavings. Pine shavings are the best shavings to use for rats. I have zero problems with it. It smells good, it's cheap, and its absorbant. All this talk about respitory infections is bull shit.
A responsable breeder will only breed a doe once, max three times in her life with at least a 6 week gap after the last litter has weaned. An irresponsable breeder like you will breed her days after the last litter! When this happens, does reaching their 5-6th litter often experience difficulties with the birth, and lose more young. Rats housed on pine bedding suffer respiratory illnesses, which they can die from too.
@thewr0ngchild Pine bedding is fine for rats, I use pine bedding, and so do other people I know. One guy has used it for 12 years without any problems with respitory infections. It just doesn't hapen most of the time. Sure, you might get a rat with a despressed immune system and might suffer, but thats rare.
Responsible Feeder Breeders follow good breeder ethics, just like fanciers and pet owners, however I think you needed to do a bit more research before flooding the pet trade with so called 'pretty colors' they're common dilutions/mutations found in any pet store stock.
I'd worry about the epigenetics your setting up in your breeidng stock, by not seperating pregnant does, feeding poor quality dog feed, and housing on pine.
If you can't take care of them, why do you breed them, it like a rat and mice mill, they all get mistreated i hope someone reports you for animal abuse!.

This is why I don't buy rats from pet stores...you end up with rats from places like this, inbreed, sick, and they onyl live a year. I either rescue mine or get them from REAL breeders. rats should NEVER bite, I have not once been nitten by any of my rats or mice and that is because they were properly breed and raised.

I've bred rats before, but I breed responsibly. breeding females so that they just churn out babies constantly, shortens thier lifespans and makes them more prone to diseases and malnutrition. I myself have never had reptiles as pets, so I wouldn't know a whole helluva lot about them. But I have a lot of experience with rodents, and have had many as pets. This is actually something that I could report to PETA or the ASPCA. This is the same as any puppymill

You NEED to know your mice or rats genatic background, you need to know if they are pron to cancer, have diseases you don't want passed along the bloodline. You probably don't even keep track of bloodlines. You probably are breeding mothers with sons, which can start causing some sever health problems like Myco and respitory infections, and a lot of heart problems. AND the reason the rats are BITING YOU is because you are NOT SUPPOSED TO BREED AGGRESSIVE RATS. Aggression is an inherited trait, they will be hand-shy and aggressive, if you feed live rats to your snakes or if you sell aggressive rats they can kill the reptiles they are fed to.
breeding your rats while they are nursing is extremely unhealty for your rats. the newborns that are being nursed will be malnourished on account of the mother withholding nutirents for her next litter. and it shortens the lifespans of the mothers who do nothing but sit in a tank popping out babies.

I bet you're just doing this for the money. You are the sickest rodent owner I have ever seen, or heard of. And if you wanted to do this for the snake, then just get some crickets our woodlice.
You really should buy a proper cage, care for the animals and give them to proper owners, this seems like animal abuse/cruelty to me, also, don't put females of that much numbers together...they will kill each other eventually, also, would you like it if a rat did THAT to you? You are so cruel. The cages are too small, all the families should be in different cages that are each twice as big as the cages you have. The mice (females) need to be in a cage 10 times bigger than that. The ones you put log on top of should be 100 times bigger. All the cages are way too dirty. This is so terrible and horrible, greedy, stupid, selfish, and all other horrible things.

BoaC2323 is an old friend of mine....first off this is not cruel, these mice and rats are bred by him for the main purpose to be fed to his snakes, this means they wouldn't even exist if he didn't do this, secondly, if he didn't do this, his snakes would starve to death and that may be even more mean that what he is doing here. As all he is doing here is breeding the mice and rats, thy are not being tortured etc why they are alive so i don;t see what is so cruel about it.

I myself have a few breeder mice, but in Hawaii, there are no reptiles big enough to need mice as feeders. I'm not entirely happy with "feeders" but oh well. Everything's gotta eat one way or the other.

You are a terrible person - you put a bunch of innocent rats and mice into tanks and boxes that are much to small for their numbers, then you don't give them anything in their "homes" to entertain them, you freakin breed the poor animals and sell them, and you go ahead and handle the babies. @Phoebala99 they're feeder rats, thats what people with snakes do. you would feed a starving cat or dog but wouldn't feed a starving snake. rats are the natural prey of snakes and reptiles and i think more rat owners need to learn that. i have three beautiful males, i love them every day and they live wonderful lives, however though i'm not so closed minded to not understand that snakes eat rats in the wild. all rats serve a purpose, rather it be science, pets, or feeders.

I was trying to make a point that people say feeding rats to snakes is wrong, but its not. he should have more stuff in there to keep them healthy and happy. Don't tell the snake people this but happy rats produce more babies. thats why the good snake people who breed rat's have healthy snakes, alot more people need to realise that happy/healthy food = healthy/happy preditors, in this case snakes.

If the rat is an albino, the albino gene prevents every other genes from being seen, and it can carry any colour, so the babies can also be of any colour. Many colours may seem like white but carry different genes so theres no way to know if you don't know their genetics.

Dog food is fine for rodents, none of you have the slightest clue as to what your saying. Most dog foods have everything a rodent needs. Read the lables, high in fat and protein, crabohydrates, and minerals. You can supplement the diet with some vitamin powder too if you like.
Same with pine shavings. Pine shavings are the best shavings to use for rats. I have zero problems with it. It smells good, it's cheap, and its absorbant. All this talk about respitory infections is bull shit.

A responsable breeder will only breed a doe once, max three times in her life with at least a 6 week gap after the last litter has weaned. An irresponsable breeder like you will breed her days after the last litter! When this happens, does reaching their 5-6th litter often experience difficulties with the birth, and lose more young. Rats housed on pine bedding suffer respiratory illnesses, which they can die from too.

@thewr0ngchild Pine bedding is fine for rats, I use pine bedding, and so do other people I know. One guy has used it for 12 years without any problems with respitory infections. It just doesn't hapen most of the time. Sure, you might get a rat with a despressed immune system and might suffer, but thats rare.

Responsible Feeder Breeders follow good breeder ethics, just like fanciers and pet owners, however I think you needed to do a bit more research before flooding the pet trade with so called 'pretty colors' they're common dilutions/mutations found in any pet store stock.
I'd worry about the epigenetics your setting up in your breeidng stock, by not seperating pregnant does, feeding poor quality dog feed, and housing on pine.

As stupid food for snakes (I understand that they need to eat too), but that's an exaggeration :/ For the majority, or at least for a large number of ppl, rats and mice are pet animals ..... I have 3 rats and it hurts me a little view of where rat mother is used as a conveyor belt - litter one by one ... However, I wish all of your pets good :)

all of you guys should be embarrassed your probabley paying 20 or 25 dollars for dog food when mazuri is 27 sollars for a fifty pound bag if I know a breeder is feeding his rodents dog food I would never buy a snake from him it says DOG food for a reason because it's for dogs mazuri is the best nutritional food for your rodents in turn are best for my snakes a lot of breeders are doing this so be careful who you buy snakes from and ask what there feeding there snake food at all times

This is why I don't buy rats from pet stores...you end up with rats from places like this, inbreed, sick, and they onyl live a year. I either rescue mine or get them from REAL breeders. rats should NEVER bite, I have not once been nitten by any of my rats or mice and that is because they were properly breed and raised.

@EpithalamionJinx - Keeping track is killing whatever abites you, any agressive gene phases out after time. No one feeds live rats to reptiles or would risk hurting their reptile, its much easier & economical to store a dead rat than a live one once its full grown, especially with the amount of rats he has. I've bred rats before, but I breed responsibly. breeding females so that they just churn out babies constantly, shortens thier lifespans and makes them more prone to diseases and malnutrition. I myself have never had reptiles as pets, so I wouldn't know a whole helluva lot about them. But I have a lot of experience with rodents, and have had many as pets. This is actually something that I could report to PETA or the ASPCA. This is the same as any puppymill

i like how you do you're breeding but i have love the way i have my rack set up because it holds alot of males and females because i just got two huge hymalayan rats and i mean huge they are pretty big and i also got a hairless rat and the one i have been looking for. i think you're doing a great job and i think all the other people need to get a life.

You NEED to know your mice or rats genatic background, you need to know if they are pron to cancer, have diseases you don't want passed along the bloodline. You probably don't even keep track of bloodlines. You probably are breeding mothers with sons, which can start causing some sever health problems like Myco and respitory infections, and a lot of heart problems. AND the reason the rats are BITING YOU is because you are NOT SUPPOSED TO BREED AGGRESSIVE RATS. Aggression is an inherited trait, they will be hand-shy and aggressive, if you feed live rats to your snakes or if you sell aggressive rats they can kill the reptiles they are fed to.

breeding your rats while they are nursing is extremely unhealty for your rats. the newborns that are being nursed will be malnourished on account of the mother withholding nutirents for her next litter. and it shortens the lifespans of the mothers who do nothing but sit in a tank popping out babies.
