  • Original version really looks like a location you might find in the 70s - other than the girls running and screaming, everything else looked so damn real, like it could really happen. Now that I know it was based on the real story of Ed Gein's place it makes sense.

  • the just bought the two disc ultimate edition for 4 dollars man i ripped them off

  • NAW MAN I JUST GOT DONE WATCHING THIS FOR THE 1000TH TIME AND ITS STILL PERFECT. PUT YOUR SELF IN THE SHOES OF SERIAL KILLER VICTEMS. THIS IS AS REALISTIC AS IT GETS.

  • I just watched the 74 version and I thought the acting (except for the hitchhiker, leatherface, and the gas shop guy) was mediocre at best. They just didn't convice me that THIS was really happening to them. It was like I new that I was watching a movie.

  • Great movie, meh review.

  • You don't like the hitchhiker? He was the creepiest one lol.

  • one of the movies suck balls, it is just too boring. but the rest movies are awesome.

  • The remake sucks 1974 version all the way its the best and had the better characters.

Plus we have ED GEIN to thank for Psycho,TCM, and The Silence Of The Lambs

  • This movie was too ahead of its time for its own good. Even in 1999, when I finally saw it for the first time, it scarred me so bad. Yeah, "scarred". I felt like I had just witnessed a nightmare come to life.

  • "More scarier" at 1:18. What an illiterate oaf!

  • Dude beneath me... This shit really happened.. Well some of it, the main part

  • @AJP1037 - The things in this movie have happened countless times through history. On and on and on. It's the history of humanity.

  • I gotta say, watching this film, I have never laughed so hard in my laugh, I was rolling on the ground i non stop tears, the ending to this film cracked me up to an extent i cannot begin to tell you... Without doubt... the, worst film - I have ever seen.

  • @leachyoby Really. What's the, best film - you have ever seen, ladyboy?

  • @joedenmark99 Top Gun

  • the reason i think the origional is better is for one the overall atmostpher and setting seems more reel to me and the way leatherface acts in the first one is so more creepy plus you have the performace of jim playing the cook. another thing is they were able to make this movie without a huge budget, no special affects, and little violence and foule language.

  • the remake was actually pretty good but this one is probably the creepiest movie i ever saw.

  • the remake was scarier but the original is more disturbing & creepy

  • omg a horror movie killer that runs!

  • this movie bored me cause they all just went in the house one after the other and got killed nothing exciting, did not like it im sorry

  • If you say remake is better you have no taste and do not understand movies....

  • @ihavenonameeva I hate when people say things like that. Someone may enjoy the remake better than the original, but that doesn't mean that they're brainless and only enjoy special effects. Some of them have very perfectly valid reasons behind their opinions.

For me personally, I enjoyed the remake better simply because the characters in the original were irritating and unlikable. This review pretty much posted the only good parts from the original, imo.

  • @Yeaster well, thats like, your opinion, man.

But really, saying the original wasnt as good or better then the remake makes no sense. It wouldn't be here if it wasnt for the original. But fine......feel free to tell me hostel was good too...

  • @ihavenonameeva lol I hated Hostel. But if someone liked it, I wouldn't say they don't "understand" movies. Generalizing people because they don't enjoy something you do is just silly, imho

  • @Yeaster You know what I agree! I mean the nazi's killed 6 million jews but we shouldn't generalize! there coo- now! and hell im sure not ALL rapists are bad...its just people generalizing what they dont understand for something that someone does.....you have trully opened my mind....im going to go outside and run around in a brightly lit medow praising the lord!

  • thats good film

  • the remake is more scary than the original

  • Lmao I dont know why all you are sayin the remake was shitty, even thouqh it IS your opinion, when the oriqinal had only a few very qood parts, and in MY opinion the remake is way better, and thats not just an opinion, thats a fact yall. The only shitty remake ever made was Halloween by Rob Zombie [no wonder he so weird his name sounds like people rejected him as a friend when he was younqer.]

  • @AldinMane The remake is shitty BECAUSE it doesn't have anything new to offer. The story is weak, tha characters are a way better developed ( with the exception of officer. Hoyt) in the Tobe Hooper version, is filled with gore and the unexplained story of a gun inside the vagina of a suicidal hitchiker (laughable again). Maybe you have a different perspective or you have saw something exceptional of this movie like the part played by R.Lee Ermey....YOUR OPINION

  • @AldinMane

You forgot the 1998 remake of "Psycho". You can't mess with a classic movie

  • Awesome review, thanks for the post..!!!

  • i agree with you, my only complain was when the guy in the wheel chair kept on bitchin to the blonde to stay with him

  • oh my god, michael bay is such a cock.

the original is untouchable. it's so eerie and terrifying practically right from the get-go.

and at that, franklin being handicapped makes you so much more attached and sympathetic for the character. tobe hooper is brilliant.

  • @thefallofjames123 The reason because the remake is a piece of crap is because:

    1. It doesn't offer the realism the the first one did in 1974

    2. WTF!!! the guys in the remake don't dress like someone in an August 13th of 1973.

    3. The movie is made only for commercial purposes.

  • @Vatoxido the remake dont offer realism ??? Haha are you 9 or somethin ? Watch the first 20 seconds of this clip and tell me who the fuck acts that retarded in real life if they're inside a coffin qettinq out. And yeah some remakes really make thinqs seem modern when they shouldn't, but STILL TCM's remake had nothinq modern about it dumbfuck. Also, the orqinal had worse reviews [by professional film reviewers] than the remake. Get ur facts straiqht lil boy.

  • @AldinMane I mean dude.....

For a movie made with less than $150,000 and under extreme conditions, you are calling it an "slasher movie with lack of realism"???

I mean the first 20 seconds of this clip are corny. That's fine, but the scene were Sally is abducted by the caracter of Jim Siedow. The dinner scene???? The infamous final scen were Sally escapes in a pick-up truck and starts to laugh....

  • @AldinMane I mean the remake version doesn't offer something new to the public like the 1974 version did. TCM 1974 offered realism with the documentary video quality. This remake is only another slasher movie. Even though, i liked the first scenes of Marcus Nispel (which gave realism). I think that the story itself is weak and stupid to not explain in the movie why a girl had a gun inside her vagina. I mean it is ridiculous because is not explained....Laughable.

  • @Vatoxido

I plan on watching the original soon. But from the newer version, a lot of things were unexplained (like why the girl had the gun). I think the story wasn't very haunting. But the idea of a man chasing you with a chainsaw (and the whole town is on it) is pretty freaky. Also, about it not offering the "realism", it offers pretty much what the original had to offer. Both are based off a psycho killer, and there is a lot more blood involved. Explain number 3 to me

  • @Blu923the2nd I mean the movie was made for the purpose of profit. Ther is nothing bad with it. I mean everyone has to make some money. The problem is when the only objective is profit. A good movie should also try to show complex themes to the viewers minds without boring them. "el arte por el arte" is also valid with my statement.

  • This movie RULES...... HARD!!!!!!!!

  • The remake is a good, well made movie, but i agree with you that it's not quite as scary as the original. This film isn't cheesy at all though. Some of the performances are a little over the top but overall it's a fairly straightforward and realistic horror film.

  • (theres that tone, old version is scarier to U, u dont like the little brother, 5/5 ) Doesnt really sound like a review to me

  • at the begining i was like what the heck

  • haha

  • the new 1 is scarier! jk

  • lol

  • @muscletower ya the new one sucked
