  • i remember buying this album playing it over and over. my freind tweety and i were attending udc when gil was teaching there.tweety was crazy about gil.i loved the revolution will not be televised.as so many artist i feel he was not given his props enough for his work.he meant so much to the struggle and to us.he opened the doors to rap.he and the last poets.i do not believe he was given his props because he told the truth with his music and shared his heart this is who common reminds me of .

  • I CANT STOP DANCING PHILLY STAND UP

  • Old school is real cool, real music with excellent groves, timeless songs sang from the heart , shows raw talent and great art, fun to dance by and sometimes cry, master pices that will not die, some went gold with thier classics soul, this kind of music will never grow old, true meaning and purpose is what you'll find, when you listen to the old school grind, I listen to this song a lot, because I love that Gil Scott.

  • Brian Jackson on flute....Starter for ten.

  • 39 People got hit with a bottle

  • He was the living brutal beauty of African American living in America his duality of giving us truth and him recieving poison he warned us about

  • Brilliant artist but not without problems. The son of a famous Jamaican football, Gil Heron and an American opera singer, Bobbie Scott-Heron. He suffered from cocaine addiction and was sent to prison for drug related charges. Admitted to be HIV positive and may have died this year from HIV related complication. His music was simply fantastic. Rest-in- Peace my friend.

  • Fuck...this music is depressing

  • @thegrandwazoooo So is living with a drunk for 17-18 years.

  • @thegrandwazoooo because he preaching the truth of the time, according to my pops this was big in all the black clubs up in NY to NJ... Gil is the father of HIPHOP when it was honest not caught up on this bling bling coon tap dancing lyrics...

  • @noirnoticvibe Word!!! He spoke the truth! hipasn't about this madness that you see today!

  • @nightfall22 thanks man but its a stone cold fact..I loved GSH for all his problems it was his music and poetry that will ring thru the ages my friend..Such a sad miss in my life....pl;atforms,patchpockets and 3 star jumpers still make me laff endlessly...GOODBYE GIL YOU'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN IN MY GEORDIE HOUSEHOLD..Even my kids are playin him to my grandkids and that speaks volumes for Gils gift to us all...

  • Pause and reflect indeed. I heard this sound many times over the years but never thought to really listen to what was spoken. I am sorry I awaken so late, but I am happy to be Awake and Aware now.

RIP Brother...you made a lasting impression on us all!

  • didn't know gill played the keyboard.. rip good brother

  • Gil Scott Heron should be profile on the show UnSung.

  • @LUVJONZ99 I strongly agree. I don't know why TVOne won't profile this prolific talent.

  • @nutothis1 I agree, Lets keep our hopes up, someone was trying to get an unsung on him before his death, hope that tvone profile him anyway.

  • This song is about bad habits. Evaluate yourself once in a while.

  • I often feel personally responsible for the perverse ways people have treated music recently...

But then I put things into perspective and say to myself "They're just expressing themselves, doin their thing, that's what music is, another language"

    Then everything is okay.

But the question always nags me...

Why don't I hear any artists pouring their hearts out like this anymore?

    What happened?

Don't mind me I'm just writin.

  • @B0ULLIE There are a lot of people like this, I write about it too.

  • @AsphaltClub Sure, but no one like THIS.

  • @B0ULLIE And even if there are people writing about some real shit, they don't much shine man.

As chuck D once said "Cursing pyramids, while praising projects".

  • A 1.09 some yuppies take songs like these as jokes but if your from where hes from this song makes you pause and reflect.

  • @MrHoldis You are so right, my heart just broke into when I found about his life story, sing that song baby, now he can rest in peace. This song takes me back when my brother use to play all of the greats black in the day, and I remember this song was one of them.

  • what exactly does the doctor do? lmao

  • 39 people doesn't drink

  • I dare you to not tap your foot to this tune.

  • @JoshuaFVrooman you win!

  • Thanks for posting, what great (and sometimes sad) memories from back in the day.

  • @deeplistgaming, "what genre of music would this be"? I'm not exactly sure because I had NO idea until now that it was a 'mixture' of various things. Check Wikipedia or some other 'music site', would have perhaps have more of definition for you. This really brings back some good memories for me though.

  • You have to remember, hes singing about his own surroundings. This is what he saw everyday. Whites sing the same thing but, call it country music. Southern poor call it blues. The whiye seventies youth called it rock and or punk or ska. All cultures have there own way of voicing their surroundings thru some type od music.

  • rest in peace brother

  • @deeplistgaming This song came out around 1974-1975

  • Don't think the colour of your skin protects you from poverty,I'm white and we lived from day to day in the 60's and early 70's in England with absolutely fxxk all.I saw Harold Wilson hob-knobbing with the Beatles very much like Tony Blair and Oasis and memories came flooding back.

  • @plfpaint No. That's your opinon. I don't `need` to listen to it again,. I like the song. If I choose not to click a button it's no concern of yours unless you're a fascist.

  • @luke2963 It's the people who clicked "dislike" that I was referring to.

  • Your words were beautiful and relevant to denounce the moguls who lead us like puppets on a daily basis. To me you'll stay a great artist!

I hope to see you again one day Mr Gil Scott Heron!

  • all i know this song brings back good memories of The Spiders Web in Watford UK where i first heard it and was played a LOT.

Entrance fee to the club was £1.25 inc a slice of pizza !!!

  • Red or titian hair varies from a deep burgundy through burnt orange to bright copper. It is characterized by high levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin and relatively low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin. People with red hair are sometimes referred to as redheads or gingers[1] and in Australian slang as bluey or blue.[2] Approximately 1% to 2% of the human population has red hair.[3][4] It occurs more frequently (between 2% and 6% of the population)

  • The so called Jews of ISRAEL (IS)IS (RA) (El)OHIM. Financed and perpetuated the The Great Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.... the Jig is up Sun we Rising to our proper status The TRUE SUNS OF THE UNIVERSE ATUM RA... No person with recessive genes are the ORIGINAL CHILDREN OF THE ONE!!!! Melinin is the BIRTH MARK OF GOD!!!

  • @MrBluntbox420 what a thick twat u are...an idiot of the highest order..you should have signed it HITLER you kunt

  • @RichardBPOliver , I am familiar with Protocols of the ZionElders, how ever that is not my source of information so i shall point you sun to the truth so YOU may dismiss your homosexual relationship with serapis (jesus) of the roman Jesuit Nazi NEW WORLD Order!!! the title of these Volumes 1 & 2 , plus actual advertisements of those news papers of that time period all JEWS SELLING AND ENSLAVING MOORS BKA. BLACKS, NEGRO, COLORED. : The Secret Relationship between Blacks and Jews. Vol 1&2

  • @MrBluntbox420

Whatever the race, whatever the country, whatever the religion, it is always the ones who already control the money that are responsible for the everything from the slave trade to keeping people on low pay within that same economic bracket. Today, I don't personally think it matters whether you are black or white. The ruling classes are happy to take from you. They are also happy for black and white poor people to hate each other, it keeps the attention away from themselves.

  • Good music with a real cognitive message in it- alcohol kills, pacifies & disables people on the daily!

    RIP

  • Shut I fucking hate racist kids. Black and white.

  • 34 people don't live in a bottle.

  • This song should be played on history classes. It's a definition of the period it was written in. Sweet groove.

  • Jews financed The great transfer Atlantic slavetrade.....and created Judaic christainity so they could worshipped by the black melinated race this is fact. Buy the book the secret relationship between black and Jews and Jesus is zeus

  • @MrBluntbox420 .. That reads like the words of a nutcase! It's people like you who say that this, or that, is "FACT" who we should be worried about! I'll hazard a guess that you believe "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" to be a genuine historical document?

  • Great Song and the video is great, sound is horrible & off... Anyway to re-up to do this song Justice?

  • This is real music for the soul.

I'm Scottish and White and this brilliant track and video on the one hand is a million miles away from me but on the other hand I can relate to the social aspects of this. The people arguing about racism need to look at the bigger picture.

  • @a1974h well said

  • @a1974h im hip hes talking addiction and life choices in a black setting but it could be in any culuture or mind were despair and need of exscape from reality is a necesity.

  • @a1974h Gil Scott Heron's dad Gil "The Black Arrow" Heron actually played for Celtic and was the first Black player in Celtic history

  • Comment removed

  • @a1974h wtf? who the hell cares if you are black or white man? god...

  • YUP! Dis was a favorite song of DJs to mix this song with HOUSE MUSIC mixes n Chicago back n da day.

  • been searching for this record for years, cheers youtube and google

  • Look at all these hateful comments makes me think Hitler was right, but he had the wrong demographic. So much hate on Youtube. I hope it sits well with you that you're a soldier of every villain in human history by continuing the spread of hate because you're bored. Enjoy the music and learn from the experience, because it's clear that you haven't quite all learned that hate has not set us free....

  • I'm getting mad, so I will just say these words:

We black people never judge, never targeted, and never wanted war against the white man. We only asked for peace and you all take it as an insult. And you take it so offensively that you talk about it on a video of one of our freedom fighters that asked for the same thing. Slavery is like a scar, even when it stops, we are still hurt. So unless YOUR people or YOUR ancestors went through what ours did, never, EVER tell us to get over it.

  • @tyzoone104 You know, I didn't wanna post anything negative on this video, but "We black people never judge?", get your head out of your arse, people of every race judge. Another thing, your ancestors might have been through it, but you didn't go through it, no one you know who's alive went through it. The Jews went though the Holocaust, but they don't constantly bring it up and whinge at the Germans constantly.

  • @BlitzThem Alright, I'll play devil's advocate with you.

    1) Your right, my ancestors did go through it, but not me. Okay. So if some in your family was raped or killed, you wouldn't feel pain too?

    2) I'm black and I don't judge people. I'm not judging you because of what your people might have done. I never judge, and I know other people of OTHER races don't judge. So that fact is false.

    3) (adding on to number 2) So are you saying that you yourself judge people on their race? So your racist?

  • @tyzoone104 Hmm. I'm white and some of my ancestors were black. Pretty sure they were slaves. (White came later, after they moved to Europe). A bit of differentiation, please.

  • @sclapione Well, I'm actually Irish (not from slavery. My great-great grandmother married an Irish man). But I consider myself Black.

And, in my opinion, I agree with you guys: Slavery was a big deal, but black people should stop using it as an excuse why they can't do anything. My great-great-great grand parents might be slaves, but I don't let that stop me. I just feel like it shouldn't have been done.

  • @tyzoone104 Preach, Preach, Preach It, you have said nothing but words spoken like a trooper, I agree with you 500%, when we get upset. they look at us like you said get over it, if we can find a way to heal the scars then we can, but the only way to erase the pain of unjust and hatred bestowed upon us, will take a miracle, we can let it go, but it will never be forgotten, not in this life time, only in God's new world would we be able to heal.

  • DIS MA SHIT! OLD SKOOL HOUSE CLASSIC!

  • @PHAT4LifeTV House ? lol

  • @PHAT4LifeTV hahahaha house lmfao ..get a grip lad this is music not bleeps and effects..

  • @worlee60 Obviously u been forced fed that bleeps n effects tish, probably from the U.K. often called Techno which gets confused wit HOUSE. I'm from da Chi (Chicago) where House Music was coined but the old skool djs played stuff like this and mixed it with other classics. So if anything HOUSE MUSIC as I know it is really Disco or music from the 70s taken to the next generation. Go on somewhere with ya negative cynicism. Keep it movin'

  • 1.09 you get a bottle of wine..got love that.

  • fooking amazing!

  • I grew up on Gill Scott-Heron's music and poem.

  • coooooL

  • Amazing how the revolution will not be televised has like 700,000 less views than this.

  • @ConciousEcho unfortunately the revolution was televised - and we watching the sitcom right now - its called MTV and BET and all the dumbass swagging pants - crotch holding and booty shaking youngins trying to talk about how hard THEY had it ....
