  • Kinda reminds me of Arcade Fire.

  • Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

  • "thank you girls......" - David Letterman

  • they must have been nervous, they didnt really get into it until like 2:90 it seems

  • Comment removed

  • Hammer Time ...1:23

  • It's bright when you're in the spotlight.

  • Sunglasses are always a good idea.

  • The guitar the singer is using will always remind me of John Lennon.

  • @sethbaumgardner

I hope realize how dumb you are, one cannot compare sunglasses with cowboy hats. That'd be like saying "Oh, I'd rather wear these socks than this bracelet." And no, it is not gay to wear sunglasses inside; they are purely for style.

  • @ManDudeBroseph They actually started wearing sunglasses years ago when they had to play on stage.. for the bright lights, and for the stage fright. They also Always wore hats at their shows for almost 10 years.before they were recognized in the media.. fedoras/cowboy hats.. before that was "cool". They just liked vintage clothing years ago. They just did what they liked. It was not a fashion statement back then. Now, it's common.

  • Beach Boys x The Band w/ Manson Chicks singing backup(in prison garb) = Perfect.

    Love these people & music

  • For those interested in Dr. Dog, a Swedish band called Dungen also harkens back to the past in a tasty way......

  • I don't care how long they've been wearing sunglasses or if they "did it first".

It has always been gay to wear sunglasses inside.

It's like wearing cowboy hats inside.

    Pure ignorance.

  • @sethbaumgardner yyyyeah it's totally "ignorant" to wear sunglasses on a bright-ass stage

  • @sethbaumgardner Chuck Norris is going to KICK YOUR ASS. Don't mess with his hat.

  • They're probably tied with Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros for my favorite modern band.

  • what kind of keyboard is he using?

  • actually they all do...love dr. dog!

  • toby has so much energy

  • Keys player at 2:37 hahahaha

  • Dr. Dog is the only band that would hire hookers to play with them on Letterman.

  • i actually prefer the nervousness. i like the shakiness in his voice.

  • Its hard to play just one song. That's like going out and only being able to talk to one girl. The odds make themselves known.

  • they are all so high. hahahah. but this is wonderful.

  • scott looks different!

  • @TannerDMB41 of course they look different... This was over 3 years ago..their first time on TV and they were very nervous and had to cut the time on the song..and play fast..

  • They're playing at a bar by my house in a week or two

  • he sounds like george harrison

  • rocking the fuck out!!!

  • the backing girl in the middle looks like cybill shepherd

  • Hey we are a new studio in Florida, and we have been getting some of the best bands in orlando to do a new web-series called Off The Avenue. Check it out.

  • this song rules!

  • this songs is awesome

  • little known fact... the reason they decided to go with the sunglasses is because each and every person on that stage was TRIPPING BALLS at the time. including letterman? especially letterman. he just holds his S#$@ like a champ though. hes a real trooper.

  • @spontaniousman16 - best comment yet. David Letterman's Double Rainbow courtesy of the DOG.

  • @spontaniousman16 not a fact.. YOU obviously do not know Dr. Dog guys..

  • Karp?

  • @spontaniousman16

Cool dude!!!! Sweeeet!!! Tripping balls with weird groovy bands dude! What is the obsession with these slacker off the cusp scruffy bands? Get over it...stop trying to be out of the box...its annoying..."little known fact"

  • @spontaniousman16 -- Letterman's pupils do look rather dilated at the beginning of the clip...

  • @spontaniousman16 just curious, tripping on what?

  • @spontaniousman16 not true..

  • Comment removed

  • @talkrite and how would you know that for fact?

  • These guys (and girls) are great. The first half of the song is sketchy but they straight kill the second half. Everything after 1:50 is pure rock, watch again. Digg

  • this sounds so great with all the distortion in the intro

  • saw em at bonnaroo and kicked ass

  • @failurebyde5ign Hell yeah wish they played this song though.

  • that dudes good

  • epic

  • FRANK RULES!!!!!

  • That's just darn cool.

  • these guys are genuis's

  • Comment removed

  • theyre coming to minneapolis april 17th, too bad im not 18. phuckle

  • I enjoyed the performance as a whole. The end with repeating chorus was crazy good. One thought, I think they need to sing in tune a bit more. But good overall.

  • How about Dr. Dog + Delta Spirit + Deer Tick. Hell, I dig that!!

    :DD

  • wilco sucks balls

  • @hack228 Dude, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

  • @KilgoreTrout4292 ill try it out, thank you for not just posting "cocksucker" but thats the entire album right? is there a particular track or am i in for some RadioHead type album experience?

  • Entire Album. It's pretty wild. It took me a few listens through to really start digging it.

  • dr dog and wilco make a perfect combo, holy fuck why didn't i think of that before o____________o

  • mmm. no more matter less art

  • I like this song, I like this band. I own this CD, But this performance?

I don't want to finish watching it. They all look exhausted and nervous.

  • It was their first time on TV...first break out of Philly.. They had to cut the song and make it shorter at the last minute and thus, had to speed up the tempo, etc. for the song.. so, yes, of course, they were nervous and thus, the glasses for stage fright, the lights, etc. But, Letterman liked them and they said that Letterman's band were all so nice to them and liked them, too.

  • i just saw scott doing a solo performance at johnny brenda's the other night. it was fucking solid, man.

  • When you're compared to The Beatles and Beach Boys I don't see a problem with that. Could you ask for a greater compliment? Dr. Dog are THE most refreshing band I've seen and heard in the last 20 years!

  • Then I feel you'd like Wilco.

  • Wearing your influences on your sleeve does not make you unoriginal, nor does sharing those influences with other eclectic artists.

  • Awesome.

  • so much better than the album version, from what i hear thats how most of their stuff is. Now the albums aren't great, just seems like their at their best when they play live. I hope to see them soon.

  • just saw them in Chapel Hill, incredible show.

  • i love how jumpy they are lol

  • Also, anyone know where one might find their Conan O'Brien performance? Of course NBC watches youtube like hawks so they take down anything of theirs that they see.

  • Comment removed

  • love this record and this band - never seen them live but i imagine they're better in a small club than this... they seem really nervous at first (who wouldn't be? playing on Letterman is a huge audience!) and the sunglasses were probably a bad idea in retrospect...

  • hurry up and see them then, they're not playing small clubs anymore...... :-) And you're right, they're fantastic live. One of the best live acts out there right now.

  • See them live. As soon as you possibly can. Next time they're in your town DO NOT PASS THEM UP. Best $15 you may ever spend.

Easily one of the best (if not the best?) live bands around today. A lot of music critics were surprised because some of them have said that their albums are "too heavily produced" with "too many layers." But then again, most critics just don't get it.

  • Comment removed

  • @poprobot seen them 4 times live over the past couple months at bonnarroo and xponential music festivals, once at terminal 5 and once a governors island THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME LIVE, they always wear sunglasses its their thing.

  • @bobstrokes yes. they have been wearing sunglasses and fedoras/ weird hats and have had that look since they began 10 years ago.. since way before it was cool.. that has always been Dr. dog's look for years .. lots of bands do that now.. Scott knits a lot of their crazy hats and they always had the sunglasses for lighting in their eyes onstage and stage fright. ..usually dollar store glasses..people make a big deal of it now and many Indie bands wear that stuff now..

  • @poprobot Actually when I saw them live in Knoxville, they were wearing the glasses. And from the videos I've seen, they always wear them.

  • I like fate more than we all belong

  • how fucking epic is this intro!!!!!

  • fuckin epic-est ever hahaha!

  • very cool band

  • Comment removed

  • That entire cd is awesome

  • forgot a this one. first one I heard. dog is great

  • Soooo good live! They're at ACL this year--can't wait! :)

  • i'll be there!!

  • this is fantastic! i love dr dog

  • Hey, I know the intro is A something, but does anyone know the chords or where I could find them, if not I'll figure it out and put them up here.

  • Now I know where Juaquin Pheonix got his new "look" from, lol the left guitarist,

  • Comment removed

  • haedn9, did you see them in Columbus? THey rocked the house man! WOW!!

  • i saw them at the basement.

  • lovin this band...-un-original, but they sound SO good!

  • very original.

  • why do you think they sound un-original?

  • saw them last night and it was sick.

  • What kind of guitar is Scott using? I know it's an epiphone, but what kind?

  • Looks like a Epiphone Casino.

  • its a sheraton 2

  • @avcvn awesome guitar.

  • yeah man i want to buy one soon. maybe this saturday (my birthday)

  • @avcvn yeahhh its about time i get another guitar. i think i'll get another strat.

  • first off THIS BAND IS AMAZING!!

second, what type/brand keyboard is that baby!?!

  • Song of the decade right there.

  • This is one of the BEST ALBUMS I've heard in a long time! I'm seeing them in Austin in April.

  • essa é aquela banda de Liverpool?

  • wooow they're great live

  • scott sounded absolutely phenomenal in this performance!

  • this is making my life complete right now.

  • omg they're friggin amazing! TEN TIMES BETTER THAN THE STUDIO RECORDING

  • one of the best bands around today.

  • i wud kill for tht ludwig, and his casino

  • They're both sheratons

  • Naw, pretty sure the drumkit isn't a sheraton.

  • Comment removed

  • I think he meant both guitars are sheratons

And yes, they look like epiphone sheratons. They aren't casinos. casinos don't have that vine inlay on the headstock like sheratons do.

  • Acojonante

  • These guys are awesome live. Seen them several times in local venues. The Trubador was the best.A must on the list of bands. If you like talent!

  • lol yeah you obviously don't know talent when you see it. These guys just happen to be one of the best bands of our times.

  • hell ya fuckin super power nyc, u dont deserve to live

  • Oh no a band that doesn't follow some formulaic mainstream sound. Bitching+music-talent=the kind of music you would be interested. Why don't you go back to your My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco videos. Dildo.

  • haha you called him a dildo. right on!

  • I love hippies. [:

  • The only cute guys I see are in Dr. Dog.

    HAWTIES.

    Nah I'm just playing.

But if you find talent extremely sexy, then heck yes they're cute!

  • i could sit the whole day here just watching this guys.. *IN LOVE*

  • They were wonderful. I saw them in concert a few weeks ago, I was standing like a foot or two from them. Nice guys.

  • i fcking love this bandd!

    there so aweosme.

  • so so good!!! gonna see them in concert soon! cant wait!!!

  • How do people like this always manage to find each other??

  • theyre so cool

  • Comment removed

  • and then in San Fran at Treasure island music fest three days later.

  • they are a great band no question about that...very original and creative material...they are not following any musical trends i would say they are setting some though...and to see them live i'm even more impressed...they have such fun and wacky energy...they say the finest art has to be observed many many times before it can be appreciated ...not that this is the FINEST art but it's some good shit nonetheless

  • Brilliant. Nothing less!!!

  • glad rock and roll isn't gone completely.

  • not a big fan of dr. dog. BUT i have major respect for them and they did a Awesome job here.

  • yeah that was a good performance in rittenhouse square in philly they had

  • Oh no way. That would have been awesome for me. This is not my youtube account, but that square was named for my ancestor, and I love Dr. Dog. When did they play there!???? I looked them up on ticketmaster a while back, and there were no shows showing.

    David Letterman uses prostitutes clearly.

  • I just seen them in philly in the park they rocked! lol

  • great song

  • They are going to be on "Conan O'Brien" Thurs., July 17th, 2008. Tune in!!

  • thanks for that heads up, I never catch them on tv!

  • one of the best bands to come out of philly

  • They sound so much like THE MOVE ya know roy wood and those guys elo :o)

  • That is a pretty funny thing to say, but I think they are awesome. They are positive too.

  • and according to you ...who DOESN'T SUCK?Nickleback?....

Dr. Dog is a great band...and I'm not even that much of a fan but I know creative music when I hear it

  • then why are you watching the video? dumbass

  • It'd be cool to see them tour with backup singers.

  • if someone was a the dunster street show may 31st and remebers the name of the songs and the order post them. I'm writing a review for journalism and i was drunk and dont remember all the songs. I can place Oh No,My Old Ways, The Old Days, The Ark, From, Aint it Strange.

  • i completely agree with everything newhoof wrote. well said

  • Wow. They make writing great songs look so easy.

  • There is no such thing as "original". Its a concept created by people who cannot and do not create. Anyone who writes well, and understands what goes into creating something that has to be balanced between emotional freedom and the constraints of understandable "form" knows this. There is nothing "easy" about writing a great song, no matter how facetiously similar it may seem to other "creations". In fact, rewriting classics well is harder than posturing bad writing as "originality". THE END

  • So all you non creative artistic back seat drivers and musical spectators sit back and quit trying to split atoms with hammers and chisels. You are killing the fun of art.

  • these guys are fucking brilliant.

  • i love dr dog but this performance seemed rushed n scotts singin was a bit nervy. but its the only performance i havent really enjoyed from them & i think the chorus cuda used tobys voice. i understand the reasons that talkrite mentioned. their show on conan was amazing, but that cannot b found on here:(

  • pretty awesome if you ask me!

  • hey talkrite - you tell the guys they rock. See if you can get them to come to London as well.

  • yeah my mistake, the track list is out at this point. I just thought someone heard the daytrotter cut and assumed it was a demo for the new album or something. They played it last saturday at their show. so good.

  • definitely off key
