I'm all for taking a song and making it your own, but when you change the octave and chord progressions in it, it really takes away from the song. Good taste in music though : )
No it's not dude. They base the verse in a minor chord (but in the same key with the rest of the song), which means they've changed the chord progression. Underoath bases the verse in a major octave. Also, Fairgreen's tuned down to reach the higher notes. You don't need to understand music to know that. Just play them together if you still don't hear the difference. Besides, the change in progression, good cover guys.
When The key is changed the octave's pitch is moved up or down but not a complete step. I know full well what I'm talking about. To not realize the changes I've said means you don't completely understand this stuff. Do your homework or go study music in college (As I have) after you get out of high school and you'll realize this clearly. If you really knew this stuff, it'd be obvious. But hey, you probably only play one or two instruments with only a few years experience so I don't blame you...
hey, it's cool. it's not a question of whether you're understood, that's simple. i wouldn't really expect someone that took intro to music 101 to understand that you wouldn't call it an octave change, you'd call it a key change. Clearly someone who's competent in music would understand that you just simply would not explain a key change as an octave change. it just doesn't make sense unless the change was an entire octave, which it wasn't. Oh, and the first sentence of your reply just nonsense.
I'll go ahead and explain why. First, an octave is an interval, which I'm sure you know, is the distance between two notes. Therefore, it can't have a pitch to move up or down. What you're referring to is the KEY of the song, which is what fairgreen changed. Also, when you say it was up or down but not a complete step. You can go ahead and substitute the word "step" for octave, which is what I'm sure you mean to say. The word "step," when referring to music is also an interval - two half steps.
Which you once again incorrectly used. But hey, it's only intro to music 101, after all. Keep truckin' bud, you'll sound like you know what you're talking about someday.
Does it matter if the chords are wrong?
