  • LEGENDS

  • Here because of murakami 1q84

  • ooh where is this club? where is this club

  • Oscar Peterson is playing too many damn notes on this. It distracts from the mood Nat and the others are trying to create.

  • I ask myself, what gives better than this? The answr.. it gives no betters...

  • Smooth! Great work by all.

  • The best there ever was. Period. End of conversation.....The Petereon Trio doesn't hurt either...

  • Nat King Cole was fucking smooth.

  • wow!

  • @kitdownesmusic This man needs a movie made about his lifestory

  • @dal4018

The BBC did a one and a half hour documentary about him and I have it on video.

  • @wargran Please download it a close friend told me he was attacked while playing in a concert in Alabama singing a song dedicated to the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT.

  • What a gift..

    Nothing like the best.

  • One of the most unbelievable recordings of some of the most unbelievable players of all time.

  • I have nothing to say but.. Back in the day, people...

  • @ syrupticious...LMAO ..My right ear was jealous of the party going on in my left ear. Glad it wasn't the headphones\

  • @wienerline As was mine lol

  • i can hear no sound boys what r you talkin bout

  • It doesn't get any better. My right brain thanks you.

  • damn. my left speaker is out

  • This is "GREAT" stuff "HEAR"!!!!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin Nat was SUCH a great singer. Thumbs up! :D

  • Right now I'm drunk. I just get divorce (it's is correct?) with my beloved wife and still this music makes my most happiest men in whole world. Sorry for my English and cheers too all:)

  • Smoother than a Casmere Jock strap.....Magic Hawkins too , love it

  • oscar man!! sHH!! just stop playing for a second!!

  • Sinatra, shimatra. Nat was numbah one croonah.

  • What a power house band, this is a superband, forget that band with that guy from tool, who happens to be a tool

  • This is way to cool.

  • What a BEAUTIFUL voice!

  • I think Nat's original rendition of t"Sweet Lorraine" is smoother than this one. As far as great piano accompanists, discussed by several commenters, how about the way Duke, and his orchestra, would back the amazing Johnny Hodges. Haven't found any "Sweet Lorraine" recording by the Rabbit for comparison.

  • A family favorite, and a traditional one, for this family.

  • After all is said (Sorry if I wrote too much)this is one of my favs :) <3. Psps. Lol @ ppl saying the bass and guitar r giving OP dirty looks... Come on, now ur just trying too hard to hate. Just listen deep to NKC's voice and everything fills in naturally

  • Can't find it all :(. But when u watch the video 'Parker laughing at Hawkins's attempt to do playback on his own recorded improvisation' u can see how it is very deceiving. I posted this for all the OP hate. If it was that bad they would have re recorded

  • If ya didn't know, the music is pre recorded. Norman granz always did this. Look at charlie parkers and hawkins ballade improv. It was also pre recorded. There's a bbc link somewheree that explains it. Ill try n find

  • Nat is happy to be singing with hip cats, rather then the L.A. session noobs he likely contended with on many of his album sessions of the time- so many forget how great Nat himself was on piano. Smokin'.

  • 22 people listened to the right side.

  • @Bugera369 LOL!!!! Such a shame too! They missed a stellar performance from some GIANTS of music!

  • purrrrfection!

  • 22 people haven't found their lorraine yet

  • Don't patronise the 'white guy' guitarist. He is the great Herb Ellis. Check out his chord harmonisation - genius

  • Everyone in this band is a monster. Peterson is insane ( in a good way), if perhaps a little busy under the vocal. Maybe he was trying to show up Nat's piano playing! And why is the guitarist often the token white guy in jazz groups?

  • jazz. I like.

  • Just gorgeous ... applause!!!

  • It's good to be the "king." Amazing...

  • I wonder if the people of this time knew how lucky they were to have experienced that era. I am so jealous.

  • Absolute syruppy perfection. Seeing Coleman there makes me wonder if there's a session like this with them doing 'Body and Soul'. .. anyone?

  • JAZZ!

  • The rhythm on this song on guitar is absolutely gorgeous.

  • yeah I wouldn't really call it accompaniment so much as a duet between Oscar and Nat. But to tell you the truth, I think that to keep Oscar in the background would be a crime!

  • Oscar Peterson refuses to be just background accompaniment.

  • Joy! Joy! Joy!

  • Hmmm. Wonder if they were playing to a Japanese audience. I noticed the katakana in the background, boardered in the word 'Japan' in Kanji along both sides.

  • Next To Louis, my favourite male jazz singer.

  • Fine, distinguished and elegant musicians.

  • The kings of Jazz - no question.

  • If that man was any smoother the natural laws of the universe would have to be rewritten. Just sayin.

  • @53160 pull out your jack plug a little and enjoy 2 ear mono yes!!! greets.gerrit

  • @53160 Apparently there are 22 ppl who disagree as stated before they are death mutes

  • My mom's name is Lorraine and I just pictured my dad wooing her with this song. I don't know if it happened, but it sure is making me smile!

  • My left ear enjoyed this.

  • @syrupticious HAHAHAHA ME TOO

  • @syrupticious My right one is in heaven listening to this Immortal

  • @syrupticious 22 ppl are death mutes

  • @syrupticious There are 23 death mutes that dislike this classic

  • Stellar in every way!

  • Oscar plays his solo in double time and he is not overplaying when Nat is singing, he is playing a very aggressive comp that stays out of the way of the melody but embellishes every spot around it. Oscar is at his virtoustic best in this arrangement..Notice how Nat is genuinely smiling because he is also a pianist and recognizes genous.

  • @nickeyparadise Okay Nickey I just thought Oscar was trying to steal the show that is all.I argued with someone before about this.

  • jeez...everyone is an elite musician, master of their instrument. and then you have THAT singer....almost too good to believe...

  • Yep, these guys are the real deal. You'll not find young musicians like this who have the discipline in the hip-hop world. However there ARE young musicians who are understanding the wisdom of the basics, theory and the everlasting application of long term writing musically. Check out musicians like young Corey Henry, who reminds me so much of Oscar Peterson. Corey's got the gift and the discipline hope he keeps it for years to come.

This classic by Nat and Oscar is just fantastic.

  • Agreed.

  • What talent! - Nat, Oscar & Coleman together.

    Just wonderful.

  • @helltopo Don't forget the late great Herb Ellis on guitar

  • AGAIN 21 IDIOTS DON'T KNOW WHAT REAL MUSIC IS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mercy, mercy, mercy

  • my great uncle michael hyman pashelinsky wrote this.

  • @adrianbpj YOU HAVE GENIUS IN YOUR FAMILY

  • Now these people got SWAG! Nat acts like the stage is his living room or something, just chillin on stage man thats cool!

  • Personally, I think that those commenting that Oscar's playing is too 'busy' &c &c are missing the point somewhat- these days we are too used to instrumentalists accompanying the all-important singer (perpetuated by Pop Idol, X Factor et al where an instrument is more hindrance than help), whereas here all are equal- it's not necessary that the voice is more predominant than the others, as they are all equal musicians making a communal sound, and for me that's all the better. Thoughts?

  • @jonty4113 Hell yeah! My favorite combo ever.

  • @jonty4113 Are you saying that he wants to show his skills I just felt he was going a little too fast for the tempo of the song.He had Art Tatum's mentality when it came to piano playing

  • NOW THIS WHAT I'AM TALKING ABOUT THIS HAS 451,652 VIEWS HOPEFULLY IT WILL CONTINUE TO CLIMB

  • @dal4018 Hey, thanks, finally able to access it !!! :)"

  • @jackierave Okay great check out Oscar wasn't he playing somewhat too fast for the tempo on his solo on this great song?

  • @dal4018 Well, kinda seems like it....... ya think maybe when they transferred the video..... someone messed up? But Nat still sounds superb !!

  • @jackierave Yes I argued with someone earlier about this same thing

  • Msawbe check out the look Herb gave Oscar he was telling him to slow down leave the Art Tatum act alone.

  • Nat was an amazing piano player himself., Bean great as allways.

  • @aerofredywr Yes no doubt Nat could hang with anyone when it came to piano playing.

  • so good.

  • The best combination of jazz musicians I've ever heard.

  • Elegance magnified to the tenth power!!

No one on the scene today that can come close.

Thank God we have this film of genius..

  • This is an awesome video, with an awesome all-star band and, for a bonus, the inventor of jazz tenor saxophone (argue:Frankie Trumbauer) , Coleman Hawkins. I think there are two approaches to piano accompaniment of jazz singing. One, the most common, is more economical and in support of the singer. The other is busier. I would love to hear Cole with Red Garland or (not likely) Mal Waldron, Nat himself was a "busy" player, halfway between Teddy Wilson and Art Tatum,

  • Try to find: Metronome All-Stars 1944 their all-stars recording: Frank Sinatra doing this very song, this is almost a copy : Coleman was in that line-up too, but Nat played the piano and better than ever. The rest many guys from the winning band of the Duke.

    Charles

  • I stumbled into this while trying to buy a Sheryl Crow album! It' was like looking for a house painter and wandering into the Sistine chapel and finding Michaelangelo at work. Today's artist are great, but these guys are from another planet. (And I suspect Sheryl would agree.)

  • Great, one of my favorites! But can you upload this with stereo recording?

  • Oscar could sing and used to dig Nat's singing. Oscar sounded similar to Nat's sound.

  • 21 dislikes!? Outrageous.

  • Honest to gosh, did anybody,ANYBODY, swing harder than Peterson or Cole ? The time is so solid....what a grove...man.......

  • when you think you have heard it all you find these gems on you tube

nat & oscar peterson they don't makeem like they useta

  • Hawkins, Ellis, Petterson, Cole, and the mighty, mighty Ray Brown!!!

THIS is as good as it gets

  • l'âge d'or du jazz !

  • Para a ETERNIDADE!!!!!

  • Tells you how truly great NKC was...he could have sat at the piano and played Oscar's part just as well. Not sure how good Oscar could sing...

  • Oscar Peterson rulez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does anybody know who the bass player is?

  • @misstefie Mr Ray Brown himself!

  • @misstefie I think the bass player is Ray Brown. He played with Peterson for a long time.

  • what language is the background and what does it say (probably, we are very sorry but the song is short!!!)

  • @valvetrom It is Japanese. They are famaous jazz players name, such as Oscar Peterson.

  • hes so high

  • RIP HERB ELLIS GUITARIST

  • You have to love Peterson's piano playing . . . but I wish Cole had never stopped playing - he was an even better pianist than he was a crooner. Nonetheless, this is jazz royalty.

  • I personnaly prefer Nat King Cole's solo version ; his playing just fits exactly with the way he sings !

  • SWING! The meaning of it.. simply!

  • Herb Ellis such a young guy, it was a long time ago, good things are timeless

  • Обычно это знают

    It is ordinary know

    КОТЯ ОСТАЕТСЯ

    KOTYA REMAINS

  • so amazing...

  • Going into the bridge Nat gives Oscar that look like he's thinking "damn nigga you'z shreddin'". lol

  • Does it get any better? Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson and me sitting back at home in year 2010 (AD) having them play and sing for me - just magic !!

  • @Rockystarr1 Why aren't there any so called celebrities of to-day with this kind of talent.

  • @4205lr Hi y'all @4205lr. Wish I could answer your question. Without doubt there are great entertainers today and there is huge talent. I had wonderful experiences when my kids were at school and annual musicals were performed (they still do of course). I was struck so many times with young people who were simply amazing in their roles.

The problem is, its a different era these days, and the new generation doesn't want to know about oldies 'stuff'.

We are so lucky to hv the Youtube facility.

  • Does it get better than this?

While Oscar did a Nat Cole tribute album, I wish they had recorded more like this together.

    Love it!

  • I just died and went to heaven!!Beautifull

  • "You can learn everything you need to know about playing piano from listening to the Nat King Cole Trio." Oscar Peterson

  • Hi guys, great accuracy and vocal of Nat King, only Oscar Peterson (fabulous pianist) doesn't know to accompany NKC, is like we are listening 2 diffrent CDs in same time , OP is covering NKC

  • @petrumusic I agree. OP is playing "too busy". Hard to restrain that virtuosity.

  • @Gminor7 He had thoughts of Art Tatum running thru him

  • Love it

  • WTF BET? Howcome my BET isn't this prO?

  • @GrewalMichael good question Michael this is definitely worth the watch.Hey watch how the gutarist is looking at Oscar Peterson to tell him to slow down on the piano.

  • hehe my niggas! Got Soul

  • Oscar's melodies are so in tune with Nat Coles singing... true masters

  • This is total class ....

  • I love Nat King Cole's smile

  • They don't write songs like they used to. Nor do they carry any of the disciplines or skills that any of these musicians had, that's for sure!

  • @spencerful123 my gret uncle, mitchell parish wrote this. neext time i visit his grave at beth david ill transfer to him the knowledge that people still enjoy his music

  • yeah, this just owned lil wayne, lady gaga an the rest of those jokers!!!!!

  • @hoopsphan99 no way should lil wayne and lady gaga be mentioned in the same sentence as this legend. He could have laringitis and still sound better than either one of them.

  • Untouchable. Today's singers and musicians just got owned.

  • @rjvsmb your right today's singers are too busy copying off someone they heard yesterday instead of being themselves.

  • @rjvsmb So TRUE!

    The Music...The Musicians...The Vocalist...The Presentation...even their Clothes!

    class...Class...CLASS!

NO ONE here needs to be told to pick their PANTS UP in this "CLASS ACT"! ;-)

  • @rjvsmb A movie should be made about this forgotten legend and Tyrese Gibson is the only actor that need apply.

  • @rjvsmb Nickleback pwns this cole miner man any day of the week. This song is just like some drunk was pulled from the crowd at the spare of the moment, told to sing and look happy.

  • @Mahler4EVA

Dude! you are NOT COOL! which in fact this Gent is!

you would be lucky to come close to singing a 100 x uglier

  • @Mahler4EVA -You ought to be named Mauler,as you are truly ill.

  • @rjvsmb You are so right!

  • Comment removed

  • @rjvsmb What doyou mean just got owned, they've been owned....

  • Thanks for posting this. It is great!

  • Pure Nat King Cole all the way. Great jazz song as only Mr. Cole could deliver it. Applause! Thank you for the post.

  • Best musican and singer

  • RAY BROWN plays the bass?

  • yessss

  • Definitely Mr. Brown on bass ...

  • You're right this is about as good as it gets.

  • it doesn't get much better than this....

  • music one of the best thing invented

  • I'd say music was discovered.

  • wow

    masterpiece!!!!!!!

  • Tops.

  • I simply love thtis song, can't express how much.

  • Closest you'll get to Nat King Cole is Caesar. Check out his video on The Coast Radio NJ.

New Generation of Nat! New Artist coming in 2010. Caesar Irvin

  • oscars petersons way of accompanying a singer was later developed to the chic corea style of intertwining, try to listen to his record with Bobby Mcferrin. Accompanying singers is not just about holding the groove.

  • No one has ever come close to the "King"

    Thanks Nat

  • Just wonderful, this is the definition of cool, the definition of swag

  • Love them all too!

  • When you look at the "musicians" making all the money these days, you have to wonder, how did we end up here, with a history so rich as these guys. I still think there is a market for musicianship, MTV, etc.. has caused a dumbing down of perception of talent.

  • A common mistake, MTV is not to blame, the people who choose not to turn it off are.

  • can anyone else detect that subtle hatred/racism in the introducers face as he walks off?

  • I see that, but I didn't see hatred or racism. some people just look like that ;)

  • Dunno if it's racism. It sure is an odd look - maybe indigestion.

  • Norman Granz was actually one of the first to integrate his recording studios, and took some big risks for the time by refusing to pay black musicians any less. The man's no racist.

That said, he is a pretty weird-looking one. What's with those eyebrows?

  • Hey, he is singing about me!!!
