@wargran Please download it a close friend told me he was attacked while playing in a concert in Alabama singing a song dedicated to the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT.
Right now I'm drunk. I just get divorce (it's is correct?) with my beloved wife and still this music makes my most happiest men in whole world. Sorry for my English and cheers too all:)
I think Nat's original rendition of t"Sweet Lorraine" is smoother than this one. As far as great piano accompanists, discussed by several commenters, how about the way Duke, and his orchestra, would back the amazing Johnny Hodges. Haven't found any "Sweet Lorraine" recording by the Rabbit for comparison.
After all is said (Sorry if I wrote too much)this is one of my favs :) <3. Psps. Lol @ ppl saying the bass and guitar r giving OP dirty looks... Come on, now ur just trying too hard to hate. Just listen deep to NKC's voice and everything fills in naturally
Can't find it all :(. But when u watch the video 'Parker laughing at Hawkins's attempt to do playback on his own recorded improvisation' u can see how it is very deceiving. I posted this for all the OP hate. If it was that bad they would have re recorded
If ya didn't know, the music is pre recorded. Norman granz always did this. Look at charlie parkers and hawkins ballade improv. It was also pre recorded. There's a bbc link somewheree that explains it. Ill try n find
Nat is happy to be singing with hip cats, rather then the L.A. session noobs he likely contended with on many of his album sessions of the time- so many forget how great Nat himself was on piano. Smokin'.
Everyone in this band is a monster. Peterson is insane ( in a good way), if perhaps a little busy under the vocal. Maybe he was trying to show up Nat's piano playing! And why is the guitarist often the token white guy in jazz groups?
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
yeah I wouldn't really call it accompaniment so much as a duet between Oscar and Nat. But to tell you the truth, I think that to keep Oscar in the background would be a crime!
Hmmm. Wonder if they were playing to a Japanese audience. I noticed the katakana in the background, boardered in the word 'Japan' in Kanji along both sides.
Oscar plays his solo in double time and he is not overplaying when Nat is singing, he is playing a very aggressive comp that stays out of the way of the melody but embellishes every spot around it. Oscar is at his virtoustic best in this arrangement..Notice how Nat is genuinely smiling because he is also a pianist and recognizes genous.
Yep, these guys are the real deal. You'll not find young musicians like this who have the discipline in the hip-hop world. However there ARE young musicians who are understanding the wisdom of the basics, theory and the everlasting application of long term writing musically. Check out musicians like young Corey Henry, who reminds me so much of Oscar Peterson. Corey's got the gift and the discipline hope he keeps it for years to come.
Personally, I think that those commenting that Oscar's playing is too 'busy' &c &c are missing the point somewhat- these days we are too used to instrumentalists accompanying the all-important singer (perpetuated by Pop Idol, X Factor et al where an instrument is more hindrance than help), whereas here all are equal- it's not necessary that the voice is more predominant than the others, as they are all equal musicians making a communal sound, and for me that's all the better. Thoughts?
@jonty4113 Are you saying that he wants to show his skills I just felt he was going a little too fast for the tempo of the song.He had Art Tatum's mentality when it came to piano playing
This is an awesome video, with an awesome all-star band and, for a bonus, the inventor of jazz tenor saxophone (argue:Frankie Trumbauer) , Coleman Hawkins. I think there are two approaches to piano accompaniment of jazz singing. One, the most common, is more economical and in support of the singer. The other is busier. Try to find: Metronome All-Stars 1944 their all-stars recording: Frank Sinatra doing this very song, this is almost a copy : Coleman was in that line-up too, but Nat played the piano and better than ever. The rest many guys from the winning band of the Duke.
I stumbled into this while trying to buy a Sheryl Crow album! It' was like looking for a house painter and wandering into the Sistine chapel and finding Michaelangelo at work. Today's artist are great, but these guys are from another planet. (And I suspect Sheryl would agree.)
You have to love Peterson's piano playing . . . but I wish Cole had never stopped playing - he was an even better pianist than he was a crooner. Nonetheless, this is jazz royalty.

@4205lr Hi y'all @4205lr. Wish I could answer your question. Without doubt there are great entertainers today and there is huge talent. Norman Granz was actually one of the first to integrate his recording studios, and took some big risks for the time by refusing to pay black musicians any less. The man's no racist.
That said, he is a pretty weird-looking one. What's with those eyebrows?

Norman Granz was actually one of the first to integrate his recording studios, and took some big risks for the time by refusing to pay black musicians any less. The man's no racist.
That said, he is a pretty weird-looking one. What's with those eyebrows?
