The iPhone is a closed system though. That's the point. Since Android will be open source you may see many different interfaces and applications. However I read somewhere that Apple plans on opening up the iPhone to third party development. My guess would be that it's Android that's forcing them to do this.

I personally own the iphone, I have worked for apple, and I now sell phones for a living, anything from the Nokia E series to the cheapest model. I personally think the iPhone is trash, after using it over a period of time. The phone itself becomes boring and the battery life is ridiculous. The only thing that is good about the phone is the browser and "maps" which is made by google.

The difference between this and the iPhone is the same difference between the Mac and the PC. If Google can become the worldwide standard with thousands of companies piggy backing their software, they become more entrenched than the iPhone could ever dream of becoming. I have an iPhone, I did not see anything in this video that would make me switch over. Let's wait to see how the iPhone changes once it is open to developers in a few months.

For sure there'll be plenty of apps for these phones - like Unix and Linux apps don't expect every app to run on every platform - some devices will have more features than others - but the SDK looks there's plenty of room for innovation. Maybe we should have a contest for guessing the number of apps that Handango will have in its catalog for Android by Dec 25 2008.
