we used to bet on who's shooting the no. 9 target's legs down, from 300 meters

its a great weapon

for the guy asking about the ghillie suit - its easy to make one by yourself : fish net and green or brown colored wool for forest/field area and stripes from a hemp bag for urban areas, colored in dark grey with spots if you like.

It was a ghillie suit kit. Which you make yourself by threading the strands onto a fishnet like mesh coat and boonie hat cover. It was bought for me as a gift so I am not sure where it was purchased.

Ever try the Russian Extra Match ammunition? I've seen Mosin rifles shoot under an inch with this ammo using a scope. Handloading though is the way to go to coax out every bit of accuracy potential.

Cn't use the Extra Match due to it being over 155grains. PSL, SVD, and Yugo M-76, all need ammo at or under 155. If not you will beat it to death. And could destroy the rifle....

But what if you used one of those Blackjack recoil buffers?

If you use one of them, you will still beat the rifle senseless. And it can cause it to short stroke. Keep it under 155 and it will do well. Also hand loads are awesome. You can use .308 bullets, which give you a LOT of options.

They make a gas block replacement for the PSL now that is adjustable which allows you to use HB ammo. It reduces the amount of gas recycled in the system thus reduces the velocity of travel for the bolt carrier, etc. This is what the gas block claims to do. I have yet to try it out, eitherway i will never shove HB through it unless its my only choice and my Mosin Nagants are toasted. Still going to get the gas block just for the adjustable gas flow options. You might be interested in it also.

Nice video, got a kick out of the last bit. A better scope would help out as well. I have replaced my PSO-1 scope with a 6.5-20x50mm scope with a thin 0.5 moa cross hair line mil-dot scope, slapped that on a centerbore side mount. Has done wonders for accuracy at longer ranges. I was thinking about getting the 1p21 russian scope but the cost of that scope shipped, it was just cheaper to go with the mil-dot setup i have. Plus i didnt want to wait a month to receive the scope.

Boo, wasting ammo. get match grade and it could be a little better. I still like a mildily modded mosin, the bolt action lets you slow thing down and get a better follow up shot. Still it doesn't mean I don't have a PSL... :)

Wow I have never seen someone soo much like me. When I shoot, I shoot cabbage and melons, in a ghille suit like you, but right now im down to a 1911(silenced). I am planning on getting a PSL or SVD. Which one do you reccamend, I head a PSL works better in harsh conditions but a dragunov is more accurate.

Well SVD is slightly more accurate, but PSL is so much more cheaper that you get more spare parts, ammo, etc. Or of course with the extra money you can always get another weapon :)

Do you shoot on your own land, or out in the middle of nowhere? No city official has told me where I can shoot yet, like city limits/etc.

Your lucky to have land outside city limits. I have about 6 acres in prime real estate inside city limits, but still to easy for others to hear my shots, and not safe to shoot. How do you know when its ok to shoot? So many miles away from everyone?

Well, it is the rural area so anytime is considered alright to shoot. I have friends that live in another city nearby and they have to head up to the mountains to go shooting. Granted the place I shoot is my father's property and I live 15 miles away in the city going to college, but when I can I head out there.

Yeah, outside city limits and you'll be good. But I live in an apartment by campus, but not on it. So while you can't carry on campus, except ROTC events, I am far enough away it doesn't apply. Granted when I get my duty station I will have to store most my weapons with my father, but I think on most military bases you are allowed to bring 2 privately owned weapons.

It cost me $850 complete with scope, 2 mags, sling and cleaning kit. Picked it up at the Rose City Gun and Knife Show in Portland, OR. If you are near the OR/WA border then come over and they should have a few dealers that may have it. And no sales tax :)

I shoot it at 100 yds and my groups are slightly bigger than a softball. I think it's my fault, I don't like the trigger pull. I have an 8x Russian scope coming, then I'll try it at 2-300 yds.

The PSL-54C I had was a lot of fun. But I was suprised that the shot groups opened up a lot when the barrel was hot. I bet you would have gotten more like 8 or 9 hits but you sped up your shooting near the end. CAI recalled all of the first batch PSLs. I may get another, it is a neat rifle, but only does good with light ball match ammo. Surplus ammo produces less than desirable results.
