Get the treat down so the your bird can stretch down on your finger to reach it. Lots of P&R (praise and reward) and also say a command every time, i used "somersault". Eventually they do it when you say the word without prompting. Once theyre at that stage, and theyre hanging on your finger, move the treat around your finger to get them to use their beak to "somersault" or full circle and lift themselves back up. more P&R, dont forget to use the command. took me 2 days to teach my GCC this one.
hey i just got a green cheeck conure.. im hand taming it.and its working out good..dk how he is but do his feathers get better how do u get the birds feather to get so good?
holy crap mine has grey feathers on the back like almost all over a few green and the red and the blue is all there someone told me that means its young do u know if thats true
your a bad parrot owner( at the time of this comment) you should always do a great amount of research before you buy a bird! you didnt even know what you were getting into. for all you knew this bird would just live for 5 years tops and you can go on with your life. they grow about 9.. 9 and a half inches? head to tail. they are very friendly. they can talk whistle learn difficult tricks. its just a matter of trust and such. next time please do more research (: make us other owners happy haha.
dont assume things i didnt buy the bird it had been hanging around our bird feeders for a few days and was very hungry and so we got a cage and he went in it so we kept it
hehehe... my conure refuses to do flips of any kind. if I try to get him to flip on my finger, he just walks backward faster than I can turn it! He is quite the backward walker.
How do you teach them to do it on your finger? Or even on a t-stand. One video said to put them on your finger and bend you finger down and turn your hand. But it didn't work for my GCC. She flips upside down and stops!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
I can't get her to do it on my finger. She will start to and then seems to get confused and stop.
Most T-stand perchea are too big. You need to use a perch where your bird's feet wrap more than halfway around; otherwise they can't grab it well enough to flip around.
I have a green cheeked conure, too, also named Chico. :) He'll be turning 16 soon. He loves to do flips when you first come in the room, but stops as soon as you pay attention to him. :) Good job training your Chico to do it on command!
They are kinda easy to take care of, 1 is easy, 2 not so much.. but if they have a good personality they will not be very hard to take care of! Good luck trying to get one Arfu ok? (Good luck as in Good luck not bad luck)
oh i realy want a green cheek conure i never had a bird befor :P but i heard its best to get a hand feeded and in my contry almost no one dose green cheek conure breeding =(
She did that too... on her own as a baby. We taught her to do that on command to be let out. Of course, as she got older and less playful and we kept her in her cage less and less she sort of lost that trick. Now if I put her in her cage and tell her somersault, she will sort of roll onto her back for a second if I have a good enough treat... but nothing like what she used to do on her own as a baby... she did perfect somersaults then.
Chico's so smart! I have a GCC too (Charlie). He doesn't know how to do tricks, except to go poop-poop when I tell him to. You have a really pretty little bird.
How did you teach her to do that?

How'd you get her to start doing flips? My green cheek's got the spin down, but I can't convince her to flip around branches like that.

what does she like to eat i recently got one and i cant figure out what he likes to eat
skateer25 2 years ago
Try a lot of different veggies and fruits.
Mine likes to share whatever I eat. I give him a tiny finger bowl with bits of my food in it.

You should have done your research BEFORE getting a bird. Go online and do some research pronto to ensure the health of your pet.

jodanramsay 3 years ago
They don't get much bigger. A weaned baby will grow a tiny bit during the first year. They can live to 20 or 25.
