Jim. Recently bought one of your instructional videos with 3 x songs plus a freebee (Key to the Highway) tablature and vocals. For the equivalent of three pints of Stella Artois at current Manchester city centre beer prices I have invested in a significant genre of the Blues. I have extended my knowledge of the acoustic guitar, and I have about 90 minutes tuition from one todays leading Bluesmen whenever I wish.......................... ..Yeah!
Just bought your lessons... They are some of the most thorough and easy to learn from videos I've seen. Thanks so much... I guess if I had to suggest anything, it would be to have one version with both right and left hand visible, so the student can see the whole song in one shot. Thanks again, I'll definitely buy more if you place more songs up!
Thanks for your comment. It's really great to get supportive comments and is encouraging me to produce another Blake DVD. I get conflicting views on the split screen approach - some like it and others say that it's not possible to look at both hands at the same time. I think in the future that I'll add a section showing both hands,, just to provide additional information on Blake's complex approach.
Outstanding!!! It just doesn't get any better than this, without a doubt the finest Blake lesson I've ever seen! Bravo!!!! Thanks Jim and count me in on your next lesson.
I downloaded the lesson and am blown away with the detail, while also being easy to learn and follow. Slowing down the original WCB and breaking up the song into 'easy' to learn parts makes a really hard song accessible. I listen to the "feel good" part for fun :) Great work, I love it! In regards to the poster with the MAC, I also have a mac and downloaded with 'flip4mac'. It works great.
Hi Jim, I can only endorse the great coments below as I have also purchased and downloaded the lessons. I haven't found any others that are so clear and concise and also help gain a feel for the style and feel of this great music. Keep up the good work
Thank you Jim, I've been waiting for this kind of detailed ragtime tab for years. However, as a MAC user I would like to use Quicktime. When do you expect the Quicktime instructional video to be available?
Yes, sorry 'bout that. The video conversion software I used degraded the quality and I wasn't happy with it, so decided to wait. I'll send you a message when they are ready.
Bought and downloaded your lessons which I think are excellent.
The teaching and the explanations are great.
I would however ask if it would be possible to include a way that the tabs could be printed off so that I can practice the chords and fingering independantly of the video. I could then watch the video and play along already having some muscle memory in the fingers to try and follow you without going boss eyed looking at two different things on the screen.
West coast blues is one of the hardest Blake songs to master imho. I have played it for many years too. The fact that an extremely gifted ragtime guitarist like yourself (watched all your videos) find it hard too, gives me hope. My version here on youtube sounds like exactly like the slow version, but even slower lol.
Best version i've heard after Blind Blake best wishes.

Many thanks for your comment. I'm very pleased that people are finding this tuition useful.
Blake's style is tricky - he was fast and extremely accurate.
Happy picking
Best, Jim

Considering there are only about 5-6 people IN THE WORLD who can play it exactly like Blake says something about Jim's talent.

The dvd looks good by the way. Shows that you have made a lot of work in to it, that you haven't planned well before hand. Good job!
