Wow Chris, this is great. I cant get Jack to start sometimes, but I am on a really old computer. This is something like Zappa would have wanted. This will create masterpieces in the future and help to evolve music at a faster pace.
@metalx1000 Thanks Chris, you are alright. I am still enjoying your vids. Do you have a website with ads that I can click through? lol Some of those google ads pay 6 bucks to you if I just fill out a few a form requesting information about a music school or something. Thanks for the advice I will check out Qtractor, You really know what you are doing..lol
I've checked the parts 2&3 of ur tutorial and did everything how u did, but still no luck. In Ubuntu 10.04 I can finally start Jack, but the General MIDI Device is still unusable, although I connected Rosegarden & Timidity in Jack. Actually many people are facing this problem. There's something wrong with Jack or Rosegarden.
@VanMedia: If I remember correctly (and I haven't used RoseGarden in over a year) it could also have audio tracks, bu tI don't think I ever really used that feature. As far as instruments, unlimited. Rosegarden is a midi editor. Midi's themselves don't make any sound. You music hook them to something like a Synthesizer or soundfont program or drum machine. Basically any software or hardware that allows for midi input (ZynAddSubFX, hydrogen, AMsynth, qsynth, etc...).
@VanMedia: You may also want to look at Qtrackor. It is what I've been using lately. It does both Midi and Audio tracks and works real nice. I love Ardour for Track editing, and when Ardour 3 comes out it will also have some basic midi track features. LMMS is getting better all the time as well.
Good, I'm glade you got it working. I've used Rosegarden in at lest 3 or 4 Different distros and it's worked with Jackd in all of them. Not sure why it's wasn't working for you.
Hi, Thanks so much for this tutorial. Now I got Rosegarden and Zynaddsubfx to both work in JackD. It was just a matter of figuring out the right connections in Jack's Connect menu.
Now, my problem is figuring out how to get Rosegarden to actually input and record my ZynaddsubFX notes and chords as I play them.
@metalx1000 You showed in these tutorials recording sounds played in Zynaddsubfx in Rosegarden. You hit the red Record button and the notes showed up. You then played back the notes played in Zyn with Rosegarden's Play button.
Only, this didn't happen for me. I pressed the yellow button at the track to highlight it too.
@floatingtux Zynaddsubfx does show up in my MIDI Devices, at the bottom, and it does connect to JackD automatically just as you showed. Everything is as you showed and working fine. But for some reason, Rosegarden is not regeristing that I put those notes in when I hit the Zynaddsubfx keyboard. I don't have an external MIDI keyboard.
if you are still having issues with your keyboard, pm me and i'll send you a link i just found. youtube won't let me post a url, so i promise to get back to you in a few days at most.
Hello, could u please explain me, how to get sounds running with this program. I think my problem is that it show me [No connection] instead of your [128:0 TiMidity port 0] at the left side. I've been browsing around for an eternity to solve it but no results. I'm happy for any ideas, thanks.
You so much this thank for.

@zsozsozsolt: have you tried connecting it to something like ZynAddSubFX? That or AmSynth are the two I use the most.

Do you have a midi keyboard?
You won't be able to record to Rosegarden from the Zynaddsubfx keyboard.

The Zynaddsubfx Keyboard won't work for Rosegarden (As far as I know).
If you want you can use your QWERY Keyboard to record notes to Rosegarden or you can install a program called vkeybd.
vkeybd is a virtual keyboard that will work with any midi program through JackD

You make it look so effortless and easy...But there is even talk on some forums of having to re-compile your kernal to get sound out of Rosegarden.
???

I like rosegarden, I'd probably use it more if it's matrix editor was as slick as LMMS.
