What if you rent an item(say a camera) and when you get ready use it you discover it is broken? Are you going to be held responsible for damage you did not do?
Awesome feedback everyone! Please register on the site, try listing some stuff, try renting some stuff, provide feedback and please spread the word to your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors. We need to build the critical mass and we need all your support to do it!
@Katydid1950 We havent heard from organizers yet. But, according to our data through our Youtube account, we see that we did quite well. But Youtube did not update our view count until after the competition ended. Dont know how the organizers get their data. Hopefully they will get accurate data directly from Youtube instead of going by the number that youtube displayed on the page.
Very interesting idea, but I have a few questions. What happens if the rental item is damaged during use? How can the person renting out the item be assured that it will be returned? How will they be compensated for lost, stolen, or damaged property? Thanks
@MaxwellNathaniel At the time of listing, owners are able to specify a "Security Deposit". Borrower has to pay the rental fee + security deposit before owner hands over the item. Once the item is returned back, owner can refund the deposit. Also, our rating/feedback system will help keep the bad people out of the system. If someone constantly damaging or stealing things, they will get a bad reputation and that will be the end of them renting anything. goto our site and see the help video
@MrManula Yes, we are the link. :-) We help "People who need stuff" find "People who has stuff". System is quite easy to use and people who rented stuff so far find it very useful. We encourage everyone to go to their closets, garages, or storage and find those rarely used items and try listing. Its a great feeling to make money off of items just sitting around the house.
Good for you I like your idea, but how do you put together the people who have things they no longer need and the people who want to rent those things? You are the link I suppose. Good luck !
Buy brand new from HomeDepot, Costco or Walmart etc... Try it and use it, return it if don't like it. It's free within 30 days! Why spend money to rent something charge $ per day?
@marcfredson Rentalic stands for "Rental In Community". A few people pointed out the same thing. It is pronounced like "Metallic". It never occured to us when we pick the name. How much of a problem do you think the name would be?
@mcalexy2k Not just unwanted items. There's eBay and Craigslist for selling the unwanted items. Our site is great for the rarely used, but wanted items. :-) Increasing the usage of these rarely used items and helping people earn some cash, save some cash, and save the environment is the goal! :-)
@dorannurmi Hey Doran! Great to hear from you man! Yeah, may be I'll do a recursive loop to go to everyone's garages and automatically list the items that are just sitting around on Rentalic! :-)
Lets get Duluth/Superior on the map of Rentalic top cities list. You guys can make it happen. I want to see Duluth/Superior as one of the top 5 cities in a couple of weeks. Lets start listing stuff!
how does rentalic deal with damaged items? if the ufo watcher rips the tent and returns it claiming it was already ripped... then the girl gets screwed over?
@sirpilf I am wondering if a ranking system similar to eBay would work...that combined with Paypals money back guarantee (among other things)...this idea has a good chance.
@leDouchey We already have a rating/feedback system similar to eBay. Most important piece is our unique patent pending transaction model which help protect both owner and borrower in the transaction. See our help page for a video explaining it. Once you try out the site, I'd love to hear your feedback.
Brilliant -- thank you. I think this could be a platform for car sharing, lawn-mower sharing, etc. Farmers in the Midwest used to share each others' large equipment (hay baler, combine, etc). but somewhere along the line were sold on the idea that each needed his own barn full of equipment.
@ashleah83 Thanks Ashley! Alien in our video has become a celebrity already! This last weekend at the San Francisco green festival, people were lining up to take pictures with the "Green Alien". BTW. Green Alien is all for socially responsible free enterprise! :-)
@1thramer Hi Nancy: Thanks for your comment and yes, it is good to see new businesses promoting re-use, sharing, recycling. Like I mentioned in my video, "Social Responsibility" should be an important component of "Free Enterprise".

Great idea but you need to come up with a new name. Otherwise it sounds like Rent-A-Lick. Great concept but the name needs to be reconsidered.
