  • This is the best video I've seen on youtube in several months. A haunting childhood melody and the quest to find out what it is as yet unresolved, with a little Mobius strip inversion adding intellectual interest to the emotional hook. I very much like the tunes. You have a fascinating character methinks.

As an aside, if you double twist the Mobius strip it will just play one side (whichever you insert facing up).

  • @Sandcat87

Thank you! I'm glad you got so much out of the video. :-)

  • post the pile of hats lp please

  • Im not quite sure how i came to watch this video... i never put to much attention to "music boxes" before either... but seeing you talking about it with that passion and joy make want to have some of those!!!!

    greetings from Chile!

  • Yikes! That möbius strip is dangerous! It'll cause paper cuts!!! ... Anyhow, interesting concept, playing it one way then flipping it would probably cause less hassle though... This reminds me (the concept of flipping music) of "table music" which could be played from the "correct" direction for the melody and played upside down by a friend across from you for the harmony.

  • sound hound it???

  • i "know" iv herd that somewhere resently... ARRRRG! I CANT REMEMBER!

  • the backward version (the second one you did) sounds like something from an old pokemon game

  • Sounds like the intro to Mr. Jones acoustic.

  • OMG BIGGEST CHILDHOOD FLASHBACK EVER :) i used to have a teddy bear that played that song. Thx soo much for the memories ! And second I LOVE MOBIUS STRIPS. its the coolest thing ever. I even have one on my neclace !

  • @mrnicekevin

I'm glad you got something out of it :-)

I don't suppose you knew what the song was called?

  • did you ever figure out what song the song was called?

  • @DugOLas

    nope :-/

  • Hrm, a shame the music box gave you some hassle when you were doing the mobius strip...though, imagine if it was a wind up..that'd be awesome.

  • okay dude have to be leonard hofstadter from big bang theory

  • @TheBenHUNDREDS

hehe, i get that a lot.

  • the song being played through the music box sounds a bit like 'shine Jesus shine' but I don't think it's that. Could you ask the girl who taught you it. If I hear what it is I'll remember to tell you.

  • I think the inverted song sounds better than the normal version

  • You really got excited with that little music box haha

  • "...and we have a fuckin' Möbius strip!"

    Best line ever.

  • haha, now strap an electric motor to it and infinite music ensues

  • Opfaaaa

  • Totally cool man. The tune reminds me of the band "Sigur ros"

  • it sounds a bit like the theme from "The julekalender" from denmark :P

  • its a lulliby idk wat its called play it slower forward

  • awesome!

  • Hehe, I really loved this video, first time I saw one your vids, really relaxing.

What tune dya have playing in the background while your talking btw?

  • Hey thanks. :-)

The song in the background is called 'Four Five' from an album I recorded on my computer a few years ago.

  • @AdamLore Do you have that song uploaded to your youtube? I would like to hear it in its entirety.

  • what would happen if you twisted it the opposit direction o_0

  • You look like waldo.

And you got a great idea too.

  • You look like you're having fun! =D

  • I can't believe there is a 'similar video', by someone else, named "Mobius Strip Music Box Experiment 1". Oh...and this was very kewl. I'll try and find the song title.

  • I didn't notice that.. it seems so unlikely!

  • @AdamLore This is amazingly strange how similarly we think. I don't believe you are a copy cat. Maybe just similar interests.

  • I suppose great minds think alike :-)

  • i want a music box thingy!!!

  • i got mine at Urban Outfitters (of all places).

  • Agree with needledrop; inverted was the best. I never really understood inverted that well except for that it's one of the permissible permutations of serial composition technique. This has inspired me to play with my music box thingy!

  • Awesome!

One warning before you get too into it:

If you want to have two of the same notes in a row you have to leave a space between! It sucks to have to double space the whole song with so little paper, but that's the way around it. It's kind of a joke that they only give your three paper thingies.

  • that's the greatest thing in the world :)

  • That was way cool, Adam. I enjoyed discovering this with you.

  • Adam Lore your videos make me want to cry they're so beautiful sometimes!

  • :-)

  • Backwards & upside down ruled!
