The whole movie is his internal struggle. Tommy never really exists. The fighting about the music is a metaphor for him internally accepting himself and not having to change for anyone. Hence why he because Tommy Gnosis. Remember Gnosis is knowledge in Greek.; it was stated in the movie. So now he knows who he is and can let go of the female persona he never really wanted to begin with. That's what makes the movie so brilliant; he's realized he doesn't have to change for anyone. Brilliant!

I think when Hedwig gives the wig to Yitzhak (sp?) he's not telling him to express himself as a female, he's giving him his chance in the spotlight. In one of the first scenes of the film, Yitzhak tries on Hedwig's wig...he wants a chance to be the diva for once.

@llcdrdndgrbd I kind of viewed it the opposite way. Yitzhak has clearly feminine features (and a more feminine voice) and seems to be blocked from outwardly expressing those parts of himself. I viewed Hedwig as clearly dictating how Yitzhak dressed and groomed. It's a parallel with the relationship that got Hedwig here to begin with -- having to become a woman to get to the states and not being able to change back. Now he imposes a similar rule on someone else and doesn't even realize it.

Para mí, la finalidad de la canción es muy clara: Hedwig, en el tema "El origen del amor" habla de que hay alguien destinado para uno. Sin embargo, Tommy le muestra que no; "No cosmic lover pre-assigned", además de lo que menciona TRUNKSB. Esto genera un detonante en Hedwig y hace que se ecnuentre a sí mismo chocando con la realidad y aceptándola como es. Excelente película. Excelentes canciones. Gracias por subirla. Saludos!

Creo yo que intenta hacerle ver que todo eso que Hedwig consideraba tan importate no lo es tanto,,, por ejemplo la letra dice " tu eras mucho mas de lo que cualquier dios planeo, mas que un hombre o una mujer "... osease q le dice q no importa q genero tenga en realidad, tambienle dice que es fuerte " Cuando todo empieza a caerse tu juntas los pedazos del suelo, muestrale a esta ciudad maldita algo nuevo y hermoso "

Otra cosa que se demuestra es que finalmente Hedwig se cansa de tratar de ser algo que no es ( por eso se quita la peluca y se la da a la chava y por eso tambien se arruina el vestido y los senos plasticos ), Tommy tambien intenta hacerle ver que no esta solo y que lo que hedwig sueña como destino, su media naranja o su pareja ideal, es inexistente y q depende del punto de vista " Pero quizas en el cielo.... no no pueda ser encontrado "

And Hedwig realizing that he's still a man regardless of his junk being gone and he can love as a man, he's losing his drag queen persona as he doesn't need it, he gives the wig to his wife.

I think in this sense he's expressing an acceptance--of both genders, and then of himself as a man while recognizing that his music, his soul, just happened to be expressed as a woman. It is that acceptance that lets him walk away down the alley towards a rebirth.

@TopHatPangolin Also, it may be an attempt to express androgyny, a statement that love (Hedwig) cannot be confined to boundaries such as gender/sex. As there may be "no cosmic lover pre-designed", the only wall is the metaphysical/physical one of finding him/her. By walking out of the alley, a closed area, & into a populated open space, Hedwig is finally able to overcome the decoy boundaries to face the real ones. Tho the main street is dark, it looks gentle enough, so now it may not be so hard.

Tommy admits that he stole from Hedwig (what I took from you), used "her" songs and that "she" is better than him you were so much more), but rejects the "other lover, pre-assigned" role from "Origin of Love." He releases Hedwig to find his/her own truth or happiness so, yes, he's giving Hedwig the boot but, by tearing off the dress, Hedwig is no longer female or male but both. S/he can move on from Tommy.
