  • Beautiful plane. Too bad it was flown by the f'n Nazis.

  • @southaustinbrass101 Like it or not it was war and the germans had some nice planes to fight with. to bad they killed people in camps. The ss monsters were behind that. These guys were doing there duty so why disrespect the poilots numb nuts

  • @kncklesandwich - What is a poilot?

  • @southaustinbrass101 so now we have to bag on spelling lol.

  • OH THAT BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL SYMBOL ON THE TAIL..REALLY MAKES IT FEEL LIKE THE GLORY DAYS OF THE WAR

  • The most beautiful flying machine...

  • BA NEMTILOR puneti si voi motoru ala la punct ca se aude rau (si inca ceva au fost foarte bune dar - va-ti, neam - impotmolit sincer imi pare rau)

  • what's with the winding up in the engine??

  • @sirrah060389

Hand-crank inertial starter (which can also be turned electrically with an external power source.) Direct-drive starters were heavy for aircraft, so an inertial flywheel is used to engage a starter gear. This method was used (or used as a backup) on several engines, both German and Allied.

  • DIe messerschmitt Bf-109 und die Bf-262 sind meine lieblings kampflugzeuge

  • Great video THANKS!!!!

  • Das muss man sich mal vorstellen da passen 400l Sprit rein der reicht bei voller Leistung 1h das ist sau teuer.

  • The 109 sounds like death.

  • nice sounding engine

  • Beautiful 109

  • magnifique ce bel oiseau

  • Ich will solche großartige Maschinen nicht in der Hand von Amerikanern sehen...

  • @VivaLaMuerte89 Deine Hakenkreuz zeigt, mein Freund.

  • 2 people should be sent back thru time and get shot down by this airplane!

  • The sound of the 109 must have been the last thing a lot of Polish civilians heard before it strafed their refugee lines!

  • I'm really hoping that in 3 years when I get my bachelors I might have a chance to fly a BF109.

  • I saw Black 6 several times at Duxford , very majestic indeed!

I was heartbroken when I saw the news when it crashed. It could have been a lot worse, at least she was preserved. I saw a P38 go in there and there was nothing left.

  • Wanna dual?

  • What a beautiful sight when it took off!

BTW, was that a Seversky P-35 behind it, on the ground?

  • Thats one bad ass plane.

  • Was für ein Sound!

  • The aircraft does sound like it has the DB engine with supercharger. It's distinctive whistling sound is so sweet. A magnificent piece of history. I hope they preserve it.

  • @billace90 And we get to experience it here in Seattle at the Flying Heritage Collection. This plane here has no werknummer, but it has a woodpecker on a crest. That DB-605 is a symphony...

  • This airplanes are really cheap to produce- one of them costs about 1 million dollars..Instead of using F22s that cost over $100 million a piece we would be better with 100 of this babies! In a dogfight a few of them will probably be destroyed but it's impossible to destroy them all! The enemy would simply run out of bullets and rockets!

  • даст ист вундаба....яяяяяя...

  • The only thing it's missing is a p-51 behind it shooting it down...

  • @Griffin035 like that ever happened

  • Los mejores aviones fabricados en la segunda guerra mundial, lo demuestran en nuestros dias.

  • amazing engine sound!!!

  • Ahem. That plane has a Rolls Royce Merlin in it. Pride of BRITISH engineering.

  • @xuaerduob

Ahem....no it doesn't. Back to school for you.

  • @xuaerduob it was originaly driven Daimler-Benz DB 601, it also seems like a late war model ( the artifitial horizont) and it also looks like a recon plane ( no reflex sight ) but the sound sounds a bit differerent so it migth be a rr engine, whitch is basicly raping the 109

  • @repzyree

This is an original German-built, DB605-powered Me109G-2/Trop that was captured in North Africa in November 1942. After repair and flight testing, it remained in storage after the war. A 20-year restoration brought it to flight status for a short time. It is now on permanent display at RAF Hendon as a rare original example.

  • If a plane can "look" sinister, the BF109 sure does.

  • Super, MoxleyMauser!!!

  • Sau guter Klang! Nich wie die Nähmaschinen-Mototen von heute!

(das gilt für Autos, Flugzeuge, Traktoren.....)

Hubraum ist durch NICHTS zu ersetzen !!!

  • The best sound ever!!! great Messerschmitt!!

  • what cind of model is this bf 109?

  • @antebigon

    G-2/Trop

  • WHAT A SOUND WHEN HE SWITCHES THE ENGINE ON WOW!!

  • @BoricuaFlowHotBoyPR1. You have good taste! Although it wasn't a pilot friendly aircraft, it was the pinacle of technology in it's day & the early versions (without all of the pugnacious lumps & bumps) were absolutely beautiful aircraft and exceptionally well built. I fly gliders & really appreciate the fact that Willy Messerschmitt employed his extensive sailplane knowledge in the design of the Bf109, it only adds to it's lean, mean, clean, efficient look. A fantastic weapon in the right hands.

  • @pete2778 The Bayerische Flugzeugwerke 109 is faster and stronger. The Focke-Wulf 190 is more dynamic and maneuverable.

  • AAAAHHHHHH HOW I LOVE THE SOUND OF A FULLY RESTORED, FUNCTIONAL, BEAUTIFUL Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine on such a beautiful warbird. I SOLUTE TO THE 109 AND THE PILOTS WHO FLEW HER AND MOSTLY TO Willy Messerschmitt.

  • This aeroplane was force landed by Air-Vice-Marshal Sir John Allison - he panicked after the 109 vented some coolant - as it was designed to do. Sir John ended upside down in a field over the M11, then he had the balls to blame the 109 for the crash!! He should never have been allowed near a classic aircraft which required the skills of a real pilot!

  • actually it was restored to full flying condition but wasnt granted a certificate to fly by the mod who own it. it was said to be of too much value because its completely original so it was grounded and sent to hendon.i actually asked the ground crew who were working on it and we all agreed it was a shame and how long it would stay there be for the americans bought it and flew it,they dont need certificates over the for it to fly

  • @redhotbarrell

Airworthy certifications are required in the US, but the requirements (and flight categories) are different for different countries. I think the CAA in the UK has been very tough on these antique planes recently. Regarding Black 6, I don't think it will EVER leave the UK and it is probably regarded as a national treasure. It was never intended to keep flying, just for a short time before retirement because it is a rare original WWII example.

  • the sound is soo awesome

  • anyone know why the back wheel lifts off first for this plane?

  • @jiwooji

No different than any other tail-wheel configured aircraft during take off. Tail-draggers require more work to get off the ground since rudder input is needed once the tail lifts off the ground and while speed increases for wings to gain lift.

  • @jiwooji, this is normal for a tail-dragger. The reason they do it is to gather speed more quickly (less drag with the flying surfaces aligned to the direction of travel) and get positive airflow over the rudder for better yaw control. The bf 109 was notoriously awkward on the ground with it's narrow, toed out undercarriage and small rudder. It's a well known statistic that more pilots were killed taking off and landing the bf 109 than were killed flying it in combat. Hope this helps.

  • You can't deny that when this is in action it's absolutely brilliant.

  • Smoooth! Love it!

  • sounds and looks SO GREAT!

  • They should fly 80 of this type over england with 152 Stukas. im sure the brits would shoot them down

  • In the wing root those are the radiator exhaust flaps open to pull more air thorough the radiator while taxiing. They also served as dive breaks.

    looks like a go-cart or F1 car

  • I saw this plane at Hendon.

  • Gotta love direct port fuel injection aye? Jerry was one engineering marvel of a S.O.B. back then...

  • Is the high-pitched whine of the Me a product of the engine or the airframe?

  • @krelllabs

The start up whine is the inertial starter to start the engine (energize a flywheel manually or electrically and engage the engine.) The idle and in-flight whine is the engine supercharger on the left side of the engine, which is very audible on the Me 109s with the DB series engines.

  • @FiveCentsPlease

The starting with this flywheel looks interesting. You can actually start a huge supercharged engine by hand!

  • @krelllabs the whine in-flight is because of the supercharger.

  • Mitsubishi Zero was the best :)

  • @beerathon, for long range and turning ability, perhaps. As an all round fighter it was totally outclassed by the end of the war, it could climb well but it had a relatively slow roll rate and it was vulnerable in combat due to it's lack of armour for the pilot and fuel tank. Also, due to the alloys used in its construction, it burned like a torch when it caught fire. Apparently it was a lovely aeroplane to fly though.

  • the battle of britain was won by hanging in there until the Nazis changed strategy. Who had the best fighter planes is just a load of hackneyed propaganda.

  • meine fresse ist das genial!

  • the sound of the starting DB605 is simply awesome!!!

  • i know its an age old debate but i can't find an answer anywhere - spitfire vs 109 - which was better?

  • @skier145

just watched a BBC show where an RAF flyer said the 109 was miles better. Two main reasons - fuel injected engine, much much responsive on the 109, and 55 secs of shooting time, plus the 20mm cannon, verses 17 secs or browning 'pea shot' machine guns on the Spit. Goring making them fly formation escort was apparently what cost them dear, it wasnt suited to this.

  • @Gonzoidzz

Really dudes come on even on wikipedia u can see the facts.

Spitfire was the best in overall.

At first the spitfire used a carburator in the beginning of the war but later on they used injection too.

Just do a little research, the messerschmitt was good at fighting not at taking of or landing which is as important as fighting itself.

  • @Squierke

Yeah, but we're talking Battle of Britain, not 1942 on when later Spits had cannon and fuel injection. These RAF flyers had to fight 109's with only brownings and a less responsive engine. They had much more air time which was their one huge advantage. The spit had a better cockpit, maybe the only edge.

  • @Gonzoidzz

Myeah ok i don't argue about the battle of brittain, the bf109's just didn't have enough fuel for that distance. If they had, the course of the war would have been ultimately different.

  • Ah, BLACK6 in better days!

  • Das schönste Jagdflugzeug das es je gab.

  • my favoite ww2 fighter.....luv that tropical paint scheme as well....cool vid

  • What a beauty. Thx for uploading. And so good we can watch this without being militaristic

  • I love this machine

  • I get a Duckskin by this sound...brrrrrrrr....fantastic !!!!

  • I would say one bad apple(pilot) spoiled it for the rest of us but in reality it was the British government who decided to ground this historic plane.Like here in America the government(FAA) is trying to stop a lot of jets(F-105,A-6,F-4) from flying or giving people rides in them because they have ejection seats. Its like saying you can't drive a car if it has a safety belt.......Governments suck! These planes belong in the air...enough said.

  • @groovy67

The original flight plan was for the aircraft to fly for a limited time before permanent display. The accident happened on the final flight unfortunately, but did not cause it to be grounded. Luckily, there are handful of airworthy examples along with a number of new projects ongoing, so there will more Me109s in flying displays in the future.

  • @groovy67 WTF CUZ THEY GOT EJECTION SEATS?

Wow the goverment is all like "oh shit man if the plane fails why the fuck shold the pilot have a chance to survive?"

God damn Dum´b fucks that got the idea should be shot.

  • *-* wow!! its unbelievable!!! such technics in that time!!!

  • Beautiful machine, The airforces of today just aren't as special as those of the world wars.

  • That is Black 6 which used to operate from Duxford airfield until some twat crashed it in a field on landing in 1997 - I believe he had the cowl settings wrong and fried the engine. Whilst there is plenty of money to waste in England on superflous projects it was decided to permantly ground the aircraft and restore it to display condition. We are now stuck with the idiotic sight of a Merlin powered 109 at air shows in England. A Merlin in a Spanish 109! Oh the irony

  • I love me-109/trop

  • i love his sound! just breath taking... way better than spitfire!

  • geil der sound

  • That's a G, right?

  • 1:30 to 1:40 it sounds like a Mazda 787B idling.

  • bell colore!!!!!!

  • the best fighter :D i really love it Spitfire was not really an enemy for it but the lightening kicked it :S nice video tbUP :D

  • Nice sound... Daimler-Benz V12 DB 601 :-) Power: cca 800-1000 kW (after type)

  • i want to fly one.... just one...

  • static condition? doesnt look static to me

  • the guy with the green shorts, really needs to not pull them up so high!

  • German enginering at its finest...5/5 im proud to be german.

  • Daimler-Benz V12 ?

  • sounds like a suffolk punch lawnmower

  • i would sayi t's an Friedrich-4

  • @MarsImperator2 im 90% sure its a f4 u can se it of the Front Cockpit glass its Thicker then that of a F2

  • @MarsImperator2

Black 6 is a wartime original G-2/Trop that was captured intact in North Africa in November 1942.

  • Ich liebe diese Maschienen.

weill sie etwas haben was die Neuen Maschienen nicht haben

  • Off to escort Stuka dive-bombers!

  • WHAT A BEAST of a machine. I love the lines of the smoother 109s (I think the F series onwards) If only that plane had a wide undercarriage that folded in instead of outwards, it would have been almost perfect. But I read it was the need for thin wings (same as Spitfire) that dictated the ugly and treacherous undercarriage. Funny we never read about Spits crashing on landing so much

  • This 109 gets my thumbs up. I just love those fresh starts. Music to my ears. That's the new Dodge mini van engine, right? You know what I mean. Thanks for making it.

  • What a fantastic job with the restoration considering it had originally crashed. A great looking and a great sounding plane.

  • What flavor of 109 is that?

  • @mechan9 Looks like an E4

  • @mrceebees14 das ist eine G-2.

  • @TruckerSF I don't speak German, but you saying it's a Gustaf?

  • @mrceebees14 yes

  • @mechan9

    G-2 Trop, wartime original

  • high speed engine sound still wonderfull!

  • One thing I've always noticed is how the 109 engine has absolutely no trouble starting up.All the other warbirds I see (allied planes in particular), they have to try multiple times, and they always sputter horribly before they finally catch.

  • if i were able to pound my lady over the wing of this plane, while the engine was running, id have multiple orgasms........just listen to that motor!!! Incredible!!!! Great video!!

  • The best

  • magnificent plane, only our german friends can make such things..

  • no wonder the pomm had their pants full...

    I would ! In a dive comming towards me...sure

    great plane,

  • german airplane

  • I went to Hendon ..just to see this plane.

  • Nazi's were pretty badass as far as technological advances went I love their planes including the first jet.

  • @KickenItOldSchool Please!

The Nazi's were a political party in Germany for twelve years. The engineers and the aeronautical heritage of Germany is much older and quite separate. IN fact, in some cases (Junkers) the industry was simply takenover by force by the Nazis.

That's like that all American computer engineers are Republicans. You've had about 60 years. The only thing that Nazi's could engineer was a lot of destruction..mostly for themselves.

  • @KickenItOldSchool actually no, the nazis fucked everything up, germany build the first jet fighter, the first rocket fighter, the first jet only wing bomber that had stealth ability, the first cruise missile and the first rocket aswell as the first helicopter, the best tanks and the best submarines and many revolutionary innovations watch: "how hitler lost the war" on youtube

  • @XXXblackgoatXXX

Agreed. German technology was always top notch.

  • @t3hwasabi

still in presentday. In Holland whe say, the goodstuff comes from our neighbours

  • @t3hwasabi still, look to the modern european cars and trucks.

  • @t3hwasabi the mix of german and russian technology would be killer

  • WoW !!!

  • Man, I get goose bumps when watching this! I love historical planes. The only sad thing is that it seems technology only develops in huge steps when a war is going on...

  • Oh god I wanna fly that thing.

    My fav classic fighter. :-)

  • beautiful....BEAUTIFUL airplane...

  • Die 109 ist ne supergeile Maschine..hab schon drin gesessen...deutsche ingenieurskunst...

  • oo cool men herich hartman is my fan this ace destroy 352 planes in air combats for occidental front

  • faszinierend die flugzeuge aus dem zweiten weltkrieg! mir gefällt der ton bei diesen sturzflügen!

aber muss damals ein schrecklicher ton gewesen sein :S

  • thats not a db engine

  • That IS original DB605 engine...

  • that screaming approaching sound is the sound of terror.

  • Totally amazing video. Thank-you for posting this. What a great sound that engine has although my parents cursed that sound in WW2 when they flew over their heads.

  • es un G2

  • It has a separate flywheel starter, they crank inertia in it and thereafter they clutch it to turn the engine to start.

  • What was that crank thing in the beginning? Turning a generator that fed a capacitor to start the engine?

  • Is this a tooth gear clutch or a friction clutch? Anyone know?

  • @russiancrew5000 friction...

  • @Kohlnator: It's an all original Bf 109 G2 with its DB605 AS (see its sandfilter aft the air intake in its left side over exhaust pipes; Merlin's air intake was below engine, behind supercharger). Merlin souded very different because it worked in a higher RPM rate as DB. This plane was found untouched in 1942 by British Army in an abbandoned base after Afrika Korps retreat. It was carried to England for evaluation, kept in an hangar and restored in the earlies '90 to flying condition.

  • There is a merlinengine in this plane. Right? A original DB engine does not sound at this.

  • How does that manhandled crank system work? Do they spin a big fly wheel or compress air or...?

  • unsere 109 "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IIIhhhhaaaa.... !!! great !

  • Love this Machine, :)

  • geiler sound

  • When I see these WW2 machines I can't help think how stunning they are. Prop driven golden era if you ask me.

  • Comment removed

  • Im not british so i always liked this over the Spit :)

  • @terorinsh Well, I'm British, and while i think the Spit is a glorious aircraft, and I'm in good company there, the 109's look like a killer aircraft, small and mean with a purposeful stance.

  • Gunther has died at 91.May he rest in piece.Could sit and listen to veteran pilot stories all day.The Brits need to pull their heads out of their butts and put this plane back in the air where it belongs. Its not the planes fault that the pilot forgot to adjust the radiator flaps.......gorgeous plane!

  • What a fun ride that would be!

  • Wholly shit, the ariel sound was so intimidating lol, damn in its heyday it was truly flown by the legends likes of Molders,Hartmann,Marseille,Gustav Rodell,Gunther Rall an amazing airplane. All those who died in war from both sides RIP.

  • SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! the Messerschmitt and Spitfire are my favorite aircraft of the WW2 :D

  • A Legend

  • <3 them!

  • beautiful

  • beautiful plane, what an engine. long live the me109

  • BF-109 G-6 had 1455hp, the FW-190 A-8 1730hp (2000 with boost). The FW-190 was also faster.

The D-9 FW could climb at the excactly same rate as the 109.
