AMAZING how much the stage, camera & audience set up, as well as the camera angles are just like the set of Fridays!!! I know because I used to be there in the audience on many occasions ;) They even have the noisy screaming girls in France, just like Jeannie & me at ABC... Right On !!
The sound is nice, & so is the camera work, well done Chorus!
saw u write on someone elses American Girl video that you had a superior version. Well, you do. Although I do think the studio version is just the greatest. Which isn't always the case with the Heartbreakers. I think they sound better live than any other band.
Petty was at his best back in these days. The guy would burn fatties all day long and write some of the best rock and roll ever written. We used to see him in SF at the Old Waldorff in the late 70's when he first cracked the scene and was still small time. To think he's been around and I've been a huge fan of his for 30 years is amazing to me.
Excellent I've been searching for this for some time. This indeed was performed on Friday's and I recorded it on VHS which I still have .....somewhere around the house. They also performed another song in this set but can't recall which one. Might have been Refugee. Love the double necked Ricky........thanks for posting this. The best live track they ever did IMO.
just a few things...yes, it's from the Runnin' Down a Dream documentary....but the date of this clip was June 6, 1980...and this was not the Cow Palace, but stage from the T.V. show Fridays....the info. you got is from the Live Anthology.....other than that, I love the clip, and love watchin' Stan Lynch on those drums =]
Are you sure? It's either you are right or the people that put it on The Live Anthology are right. I used the info from The Live Anthology seeing as this is that version except without the extended intro.
@otk1991 yes dude I'm very sure....that info. IS from the Live Anthology, plus I have the Runnin' Down a Dream documentary myself....as well as the Live Anthology....Ron Blair, the bass player, left the band in 1982 and was replaced by Howie Epstein....this version of American Girl is on the Runnin' Down a Dream documentary soundtrack....
Oops, I forgot about Ron. And oops again, I just listened to the one on the Live Anthology and it is different. But I personally think this is the best version of the song, I'm not sure why they chose the other one. But thanks for correcting my ignorance. Shows how much I fail at being a Tom Petty fan.
Have you seen them live before? I'm only 19 so when I heard they were on tour this year I had to go. And all I can say is they've still got it. Truly amazing.
@otk1991 yeah, I like this one the most too...and it's ok, just a simple error.......and yes, I saw them in Sept. 2006 at the Greek Theater at UC Berkley...that's when I was 16, right now I'm 20....and yeah, they're still rockin'....
OUTSTANDING! I saw this on tv as well, during a friday night of my senior year of high school. Does ANYONE have the other song TP did that night? It was Shadow of a Doubt (Complex Kid), and really kicked ass. Thanks for posting!
